Charging System
Warning Light
This warning light illuminates:
Once you set the Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position.
- It remains on until the engine isstarted.
When there is a malfunction with either the alternator or electrical charging system. If there is a malfunction with either the
alternator or electrical charging system:
1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe
location and stop your vehicle.
2. Turn the engine off and check the alternator drive belt for looseness
or breakage.
If the belt is adjusted properly,
there may be a problem in the
electrical charging system.
In this case, we recommend that
you have the vehicle inspected by
an authorized Kia dealer as soon
as possible.
Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light
This warning light illuminates:
When the engine coolant tempera- ture is above 120°C (248°F). This
means that the engine is overheat-
ed and may be damaged.
If your vehicle is overheated, refer
to “Overheating” in chapter 6.
When your vehicle is overheated, the color of the engine coolant
temperature symbol will change(white → red). (for type B cluster)
CAUTION - Engine Overheating
Do not continue driving with the
engine overheated. Otherwiseengine may be damaged.

Engine Oil PressureWarning Light
This warning light illuminates:
Once you set the Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position.
- It remains on until the engine isstarted.
When the engine oil pressure is low.
If the engine oil pressure is low:
1.Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop your vehicle.
2.Turn the engine off and check the engine oil level (For more details,
refer to “Engine Oil” in section 7). If
the level is low, add oil as required.
If the warning light remains on after
adding oil or if oil is not available,
we recommend that you have the
vehicle inspected by an authorized
Kia dealer as soon as possible.
Low Fuel Level Warning
Light
This warning light illuminates:
When the fuel tank is nearly empty.
When the fuel tank is nearly empty, the color of the fuel level symbol will change (white → orange). (for
type B cluster)
If the fuel tank is nearly empty:
Add fuel as soon as possible.
CAUTION - Engine Oil
Pressure Warning Light

If the engine does not stop immediately after the EngineOil Pressure Warning Light isilluminated, severe damage could result.
If the warning light stays onwhile the engine is running, itindicates that there may beserious engine damage or malfunction. In this case,
1. Stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
2. Turn off the engine and check the oil level. If the oillevel is low, fill the engineoil to the proper level.
3. Start the engine again. If the warning light stays on afterthe engine is started, turnthe engine off immediately.In this case, we recommend that you have the vehicleinspected by an authorizedKia dealer.
CAUTION - Low Fuel
Level
Driving with the Low Fuel Level
warning light on or with the fuellevel below “E” can cause theengine to misfire and damage the catalytic converter (if equipped).

If the AFLS malfunction indicator
comes on, the AFLS is not working
properly. Drive to the nearest safe
location and restart the engine. If the
indicator continuously remains on,
we recommend that the system be
checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
Parking light position ( )
When the light switch is in the park- ing light position, the tail and license
will turn ON.
Headlight position ( )
When the light switch is in the head- light position, the head, tail, license
and instrument panel lights will turnON.

Headlight leveling device It is automatically adjusted the head-
light beam level according to the
number of the passengers and the
loading weight in the luggage area.
And it offers the proper headlight
beam under the various conditions.Headlight washer
If your vehicle is equipped with the
headlight washer it will be operating
at the same time when you operate
the windshield washer. It will operate
when the headlight switch is in thefirst or second position and the
engine start/stop button is in the ONposition.
The washer fluid will be sprayed on
to the headlights.

NOTICE
 Check the headlight washers peri- odically to confirm that the wash-
er fluid is being sprayed properly
onto the headlight lenses.
 The headlight washer can be oper- ated 15 minutes after being oper-
ated last time.
WARNING
If it does not work properly even
though your car is inclined
backward according to passen-
ger's posture, or the headlightbeam is irradiated to the high or
low position, we recommend
that the system be inspected by
an authorized Kia dealer. Do not attempt to inspect or
replace the wiring yourself.

Before entering vehicle
• Be sure that all windows, outsidemirror(s), and outside lights are clean.
Check the condition of the tires.
Check under the vehicle for any sign of leaks.
Be sure there are no obstacles behind you if you intend to back up. Necessary inspections
Fluid levels, such as engine oil,
engine coolant, brake fluid, and
washer fluid should be checked on a
regular basis, with the exact interval
depending on the fluid. Further
details are provided in section 7,“Maintenance”.
Before starting
Close and lock all doors.
Position the seat so that all con-
trols are easily reached.
Adjust the inside and outside rearview mirrors.
Be sure that all lights work.
Check all gauges.
Check the operation of warning lights when the ignition switch is
turned to the ON position.
Release the parking brake and make sure the brake warning lightgoes out.
For safe operation, be sure you are
familiar with your vehicle and itsequipment.

ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON
Illuminated engine start/stop
button
Whenever the front door is opened,
the engine start/stop button will illu-
minate for your convenience. Thelight will go off after about 30 sec-
onds when the door is closed. It willalso go off immediately when the
theft-alarm system is armed. Engine start/stop button posi- tion
OFF
To turn off the engine (START/RUN
position) or vehicle power (ON posi-
tion), press the engine start/stop but-
ton with the shift lever in the P (Park)
position. When you press the engine
start/stop button without the shift lever
in the P (Park) position, the engine
start/stop button will not change to the
OFF position but to the ACC position.
Vehicles equipped with anti-theft
steering column lock
The steering wheel locks when the
engine start/stop button is in the OFF
position to protect you against theft.
It locks when the door is opened.
If the steering wheel is not locked
properly when you open the driver's
door, the warning chime will sound.
Try locking the steering wheel again.
If the problem is not solved, we rec-
ommend that the system be checked
by an authorized Kia dealer.
In addition, if the engine start/stop
button is in the OFF position after the
driver's door is opened, the steering
wheel will not lock and the warning
chime will sound. In such a situation,
close the door. Then the steering
wheel will lock and the warning
chime will stop.

steering wheel right and left to
release the tension.

only when the vehicle is not in motion.
ACC(Accessory)
Press the engine start/stop button while it is in the OFF position without
depressing the brake pedal.
The steering wheel unlocks and elec-
trical accessories are operational.
If the engine start/stop button is in the
ACC position for more than 1 hour,
the button is turned off automatically
to prevent battery discharge.
ON
Press the engine start/stop button
while it is in the ACC position without
depressing the brake pedal.
The warning lights can be checked
before the engine is started. Do not
leave the engine start/stop button in
the ON position for a long time. The
battery may discharge, because the
engine is not running.
Orange
CAUTION
In an emergency situation while the vehicle is in motion, you areable to turn the engine off and to the ACC position by pressingthe engine start/stop button formore than 2 seconds or 3 times successively within 3 seconds.If the vehicle is still moving, youcan restart the engine withoutdepressing the brake pedal by pressing the engine start/stopbutton with the shift lever in theN (Neutral) position.

BRAKE SYSTEM
Power brakes
Your vehicle has power-assisted
brakes that adjust automatically
through normal usage.
In the event that the power-assisted
brakes lose power because of a stalled
engine or some other reason, you can
still stop your vehicle by applying
greater force to the brake pedal than
you normally would. The stopping dis-
tance, however, will be longer.
When the engine is not running, the
reserve brake power is partially
depleted each time the brake pedal
is applied. Do not pump the brake
pedal when the power assist has
been interrupted.
Pump the brake pedal only when
necessary to maintain steering con-
trol on slippery surfaces.
(Continued) Always test your brakes in this fashion after driving
through deep water. To dry the
brakes, apply them lightly
while maintaining a safe for-
ward speed until brake per-
formance returns to normal.
Always, confirm the position of the brake and accelerator
pedal before driving. If you
don’t check the position of theaccelerator and brake pedal
before driving, you maydepress the accelerator
instead of the brake pedal. It
may cause a serious accident.WARNING - Brakes
Do not drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. This will create abnormal high
brake temperatures, excessive
brake lining and pad wear, andincreased stopping distances.
When descending a long or steep hill, shift to a lower gear
and avoid continuous applica-
tion of the brakes. Continuousbrake application will cause
the brakes to overheat and
could result in a temporary
loss of braking performance.
Wet brakes may impair the vehicle’s ability to safely slow
down; the vehicle may alsopull to one side when the
brakes are applied. Applying
the brakes lightly will indicate
whether they have been
affected in this way.
