High beam operation
To turn on the high beam headlights,
push the lever away from you. Pull it
back for low beams. The high beam indicator will light when the headlight high beams are
switched on.
To prevent the battery from being
discharged, do not leave the lights
on for a prolonged time while the
engine is not running. To flash the headlights, pull the lever
towards you. It will return to the nor-
mal (low beam) position when
released. The headlight switch doesnot need to be on to use this flashing
feature.

Headlight leveling device It is automatically adjusted the head-
light beam level according to the
number of the passengers and the
loading weight in the luggage area.
And it offers the proper headlight
beam under the various conditions.Headlight washer
If your vehicle is equipped with the
headlight washer it will be operating
at the same time when you operate
the windshield washer. It will operate
when the headlight switch is in thefirst or second position and the
engine start/stop button is in the ONposition.
The washer fluid will be sprayed on
to the headlights.

NOTICE
Check the headlight washers peri- odically to confirm that the wash-
er fluid is being sprayed properly
onto the headlight lenses.
The headlight washer can be oper- ated 15 minutes after being oper-
ated last time.
WARNING
If it does not work properly even
though your car is inclined
backward according to passen-
ger's posture, or the headlightbeam is irradiated to the high or
low position, we recommend
that the system be inspected by
an authorized Kia dealer. Do not attempt to inspect or
replace the wiring yourself.

The reservoir filler neck is located in
the front of the engine compartment
on the passenger side.CAUTION
To prevent possible damage
to the wipers or windshield,do not operate the wiperswhen the windshield is dry.
To prevent damage to the wiper blades, do not use gaso-line, kerosene, paint thinner,or other solvents on or near them.
To prevent damage to the wiper arms and other compo-nents, do not attempt to movethe wipers manually.
CAUTION
To prevent possible damage to
the washer pump, do not oper-ate the washer when the fluid reservoir is empty.
WARNING
Do not use the washer in freez-
ing temperatures without firstwarming the windshield with
the defrosters; the washer solu-
tion could freeze on contactwith the windshield and
obscure your vision.

INTERIOR LIGHTAutomatic turn off function (if equipped)
The interior lights automatically turn
off approximately 20 minutes after
the engine is turned off.
If your vehicle is equipped with the
theft alarm system, the interior lights
automatically turns off several sec-
onds after the system is armed stage. Type A
Front lamp switch
: Press the button to turn the
lamp on. This light produces
a spot beam for convenientuse as a map lamp at night
or as a personal lamp for
the driver and the front pas-
senger. To turn the lamp off,
press the button again.
Press the button to turn the front and rear lamp on.
To turn the lamp off, press
the button again.
CAUTION
Do not use the interior lights for
extended periods when theengine is not running.
It may cause battery discharge.

Door courtesy lamp (if equipped)
The door courtesy lamp comes ON when the door is opened to assist
entering or exiting the vehicle. It also
serves as a warning to passing vehi-
cles that the vehicle door is open.Glove box lamp
The glove box lamp comes on when
the glove box is opened.
Vanity mirror lamp
Opening the lid of the vanity mirror
will automatically turn on the mirrorlight.
CAUTION

Always have the switch in the off position when the vanity mir-ror lamp is not in use. If the sun- visor is closed without the lampoff, it may discharge the batteryor damage the sunvisor.

Recirculated air positionWith the recirculated airposition selected, air from
the passenger compart-
ment will be drawn throughthe heating system andheated or cooled according
to the function selected.
When driving at high speed,
the outside air may come into circulate the air inside the
vehicle. To block the air from
entering, press the air
intake control button for
about 2 seconds. The out-
side air will be blocked from
coming in for 3 minutes.
Outside (fresh) air position With the outside (fresh) airposition selected, air
enters the vehicle from out-side and is heated orcooled according to the
function selected.✽✽ NOTICE
Prolonged operation of the heater in
the recirculated air position (with-
out air conditioning selected) may
cause fogging of the windshield and
side windows and the air within the
passenger compartment may
become stale.
In addition, prolonged use of the air
conditioning with the recirculated
air position selected will result in
excessively dry air in the passenger
compartment.WARNING
Continued climate control system operation in the recir-
culated air position may allowhumidity to increase inside
the vehicle which may fog the
glass and obscure visibility.
Do not sleep in a vehicle with the air conditioning or heating
system on. It may cause seri-ous harm or death due to a
drop in the oxygen level
and/or body temperature.
Continued climate control sys- tem operation in the recirculat-ed air position can cause
drowsiness or sleepiness, and
loss of vehicle control. Set the
air intake control to the outside
(fresh) air position as much as
possible while driving.

When the amount of refrigerant is
low, the performance of the air con-
ditioning is reduced. Overfilling alsohas a bad influence on the air condi-tioning system.

equipped with R-134a
Because the refriger-
ant is at very high
pressure, the air con-ditioning system
should only be serv-
iced by trained and certified
technicians. It is important thatthe correct type and amount of
oil and refrigerant is used.
Otherwise, it may cause dam-
age to the vehicle and personal

For maximum defrosting, set the
temperature control to the extreme
right/hot position and the fan speedcontrol to the highest speed.
If warm air to the floor is desired while defrosting or defogging, setthe mode to the floor-defrost posi-tion.
Before driving, clear all snow and ice from the windshield, rear win-
dow, outside rear view mirrors, and
all side windows.
Clear all snow and ice from the hood and air inlet in the cowl grill to
improve heater and defroster effi-ciency and to reduce the probabili-
ty of fogging up the inside of thewindshield. To defog inside windshield
1. Set the fan speed to the desired
position.
2. Select desired temperature.
3. Press the defrost button ( ).
4. The air conditioning will be turned on according to the detected ambi-
ent temperature and outside(fresh) air position will be selected
automatically.
WINDSHIELD DEFROSTING AND DEFOGGING
WARNING - Windshield heating
Do not use the or posi- tion during cooling operation in
extremely humid weather. The
difference between the temper-ature of the outside air and thatof the windshield could causethe outer surface of the wind-
shield to fog up, causing loss of
visibility. In this case, set the
mode selection knob or button
to the position and fan
speed control knob or button to
the lower speed.
