Driving your vehicle
Starting the engine
1. Make sure the parking brake isapplied.
2. Manual Transaxle - Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the clutch
pedal and brake pedal depressed
while turning the ignition switch to the
start position.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P (Park).
Depress the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N (Neutral)position.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the START position. Hold the key (maximum of 10
seconds) until the engine starts andrelease it.
✽✽ NOTICE
Whether the engine is cold or warm, always start the vehicle with your foot
on the brake pedal. Do not depress the
accelerator while starting the vehicle.
Do not race the engine while warming
it up.
In extremely cold weather (below
- 18°C / 0°F) or after the vehicle has
not been operated for several days, let
the engine warm up without depress-
ing the accelerator pedal.
WARNING
Always wear appropriate shoes
when operating your vehicle.
Unsuitable shoes (high heels, ski
boots,etc.) may interfere with your
ability to use the brake, accelerator,
and clutch (pedals).
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the vehicle: Do not hold the ignition key in the START position for more than 10
seconds. Wait 5 to 10 secondsbefore trying again.
If traffic and road conditions per- mit, you may put the shift lever in
the N (Neutral) position while the vehicle is still moving and turnthe ignition switch to the STARTposition in an attempt to restart
the engine.
Do not push or tow your vehicle to start the engine.

ACC(Accessory)
With manual transaxle
Press the engine start/stop button when
the button is in the OFF position withoutdepressing the clutch pedal.
With automatic transaxle
Press the engine start/stop button while it is in the OFF position without depressing
the brake pedal.
The steering wheel unlocks (if equipped
with anti-theft steering column lock) and
electrical accessories are usable.
If you leave the engine start/stop button
in the ACC position for more than one
hour, the battery power will turn off auto-
matically to prevent the battery from dis-charging.
ON
With manual transaxle
Press the engine start/stop button when
the button is in the ACC position withoutdepressing the clutch pedal.
With automatic transaxle
Press the engine start/stop button while it
is in the ACC position without depressing
the brake pedal.
The warning lights can be checked
before the engine is started. If you leave
the engine start/stop button in the ON
position for more than one hour, the bat-
tery power will turn off automatically to
prevent the battery from discharging.
WARNING
To turn the engine off in an emer-
gency: Press and hold the Engine
Start/Stop button for more than two
seconds OR Rapidly press and
release the Engine Start/Stop but-ton three times (within three sec-onds).
If the vehicle is still moving, you
can restart the engine without
depressing the brake pedal by
pressing the Engine Start/Stop but-
ton with the shift lever in the N(Neutral) position.

START/RUN
With manual transaxle
To start the engine, depress the clutch
and brake pedals and press the engine
start/stop button with the shift lever in
neutral.
With automatic transaxle
To start the engine, depress the brake
pedal and press the engine start/stop
button with the shift lever in the P (Park)
or the N (Neutral) position. For your safe-
ty, start the engine with the shift lever in
the P (Park) position.

NOTICE
If you press the engine start/stop button
without depressing the clutch pedal for
manual transaxle vehicles or without
depressing the brake pedal for automat-
ic transaxle vehicles, the engine will not
start and the engine start/stop button
changes as follow:

WARNING
NEVER press the engine start/stop button while the vehi-
cle is in motion except in an
emergency. This will result in theengine turning off and loss of
power assist for the steering and
brake systems. This may lead to
loss of directional control and
braking function, which couldcause an accident.
Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure the shift lever
is in the P (Park) position, set the
parking brake, press the engine
start/stop button to the OFF posi-
tion, and take the smart key with
you. Unexpected vehicle move-
ment may occur if these precau-
tions are not followed.
NEVER reach through the steer- ing wheel for the engine
start/stop button, or any other
control, while the vehicle is in
motion. The presence of your
hand or arm in this area may
cause a loss of vehicle controlresulting in an accident.

NOTICE
The engine will start by pressing the engine start/stop button, only when
the smart key is in the vehicle.
Even if the smart key is in the vehicle, if it is far away from the driver, the
engine may not start.
When the Engine Start/Stop button is
in the ACC or ON position, if any door
is open, the system checks for the
smart key. If the smart key is not in
the vehicle, the indicator "KEY OUT"
will blink, and if all doors are closed,
the chime will also sound for about 5
seconds. The indicator will turn off
while the vehicle is moving. Keep the
smart key in the vehicle when using
the ACC position or if the vehicle
engine is ON.1. Carry the smart key or leave it insidethe vehicle.
2. Make sure the parking brake is firmly applied.
3. Manual Transaxle - Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the clutch
pedal and brake pedal depressed
while starting the engine.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P (Park).
Depress the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N (Neutral)
position.
4. Press the engine start/stop button.

NOTICE
To prevent damage to the vehicle:
Do not press the Engine Start/Stop but-
ton for more than 10 seconds except
when the stop lamp fuse is disconnected.
When the stop lamp fuse is blown, you
can't start the engine normally. Replace
the fuse with a new one. If you are not
able to replace the fuse, you can start the
engine by pressing the engine start/stop
button for 10 seconds with the engine
start/stop button in the ACC position.
For your safety always depress the
brake and/or clutch pedal before start-
ing the engine.

If the smart key battery is weak or the
smart key does not work correctly, you
can start the engine by pressing the
engine start/stop button with the smart
key in the direction of the picture above.

CAUTION
If the engine stalls while the vehicle
is in motion, do not attempt to move
the shift lever to the P (Park) posi-tion. If the traffic and road condi-tions permit, you may put the shift lever in the N (Neutral) position
while the vehicle is still moving andpress the engine start/stop buttonin an attempt to restart the engine.
