SMART KEY (IF EQUIPPED)
With a smart key, you can lock or
unlock a door and even start the
engine without inserting the key.
The functions of the buttons on a
smart key are similar to the remote
keyless entry. (Refer to the “Remote
keyless entry” in this section.)
Smart key functions
With the smart key, you can lock and
unlock the vehicle doors, and the
smart key enables starting of the
engine as well. Detailed information
follows:
Locking
Pressing the button of the outside
door handles with all doors closed
and any door unlocked, locks all the
doors. The hazard warning lights
blink and the chime sounds once to
indicate that all doors are locked. The
button will only operate when the
smart key is within 28~40 in. (0.7~1
m) from the outside door handle. If
you want to make sure that a door
has locked or not, you should check
the door lock button inside the vehi-
cle or pull the outside door handle.Even though you press the outside
door handle buttons, the doors will
not lock and the chime will sound for
3 seconds if any of following occur:
The smart key is in the vehicle.
The ignition switch is in ACC or ON
position.
Any door except the trunk is open.

Your vehicle is equipped with a cat-
alytic converter emission control
device.
Therefore, the following precautions
must be observed:
 Use only UNLEADED FUEL for
gasoline engines.
Do not operate the vehicle when
there are signs of engine malfunc-
tion, such as misfire or a noticeable
loss of performance.
Do not misuse or abuse the
engine. Examples of misuse are
coasting with the ignition off and
descending steep grades in gear
with the ignition off.
Do not operate the engine at high
idle speed for extended periods (5
minutes or more).
Do not modify or tamper with any
part of the engine or emission con-
trol system. All inspections and
adjustments must be made by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer. Avoid driving with a very low fuel
level. If you run out of gasoline, it
could cause the engine to misfire
and result in excessive loading of
the catalytic converter.
Failure to observe these precautions
could result in damage to the catalyt-
ic converter and to your vehicle.
Additionally, such actions could void
your warranties.Perchlorate Material-special handling
