Synchronized Mode
You can set the temperature synchronously for the driver side, the passenger side,
and the rear passenger compa rtment in synchronized mode.
1. Press the SYNC button.
u The system will switch to synchronized mode.
2. Adjust the temperature using driver ’s side temperature control dial.
Press the SYNC button to return to dual mode.

When you press the button, the system changes
to synchronized mode.
When the system is in tri- zone mode, the driver side
temperature, the passenger side temperature, and
the rear passenger compartment (if it is on) can be set
separately.

Rear Climate Control System
Use the system when the engine is running.
1. Press the REARLOCK button.
u LOCK appears on the front co ntrol panel. The rear system changes to AUTO
mode.
2. The system automatically adjusts the fan sp eed and airflow levels to maintain the
set rear temperature.
u Change the temperature if necessary.
3. To turn off the rear climate control system, press and hold the REARLOCK button
for a few seconds.

AUTO LOCK appears on the rear control panel while
the rear lock is on.
If the rear lock is on while in SYNC mode, the rear
control panel is disabled. AUTO LOCK SYNC appears
on the rear control panel.

2. Adjust the interior temperature usi ng the rear temperature control bar.
3. To turn off the rear climate control system, press OFF button repeatedly until the
system shuts off.

• Monitor your temperature gauge. If it nears the red (Hot) mark, turn off the
climate control system and redu ce speed. Pull to the side of the road safely to cool
down the engine if necessary.
• Shift to the
(d position if the transmiss ion shifts frequently.
If the tires slip when retrieving a boat from the water, shift to
(1, and turn on VTM-
4 r lock. Disengage VTM-4 r lock as soon as the boat is out of the water to prevent
damage to the VTM-4 r system.
Towing Your Vehicle
Your vehicle is not designed to be towed behind a motor home. If your vehicle needs

Starting the Engine

(P, then
depress the brake pedal.

1 Starting the Engine
Keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal when
starting the engine.
The engine is harder to st art in cold weather and in
thinner air found at altitudes above 8,000 feet (2,400
meters).
When starting the engine in cold weather, turn off all
electrical accessories such as the lights, climate
control system, and rear de fogger in order to reduce
battery drain.
If you live in a region where winter is extremely cold,
an engine block heater will improve starting and
warming of the engine. If temperatures consistently
below -22°F (-30°C) are expected, the coolant
mixture should be changed to a higher concentration
to prevent freezing. Cons ult a dealer for details.
If the exhaust system sounds abnormal or you can
smell exhaust gas inside the vehicle, have your vehicle
checked by a dealer. There may be a problem with
the engine or exhaust system.
Do not hold the key in START
( e for more than 15
seconds.
•If the engine does not sta rt right away, wait for at
least 10 seconds before trying again.
•If the engine starts, but then immediately stops,
wait at least 10 seconds before repeating step 3
while gently depressing the accelerator pedal.
Release the accelerator pedal once the engine
starts.

The following conditions cause the engine to run at high revolutions, and increase
creeping:
• Immediately after the engine starts.
• When the climate control system is in use.
Keep the brake pedal firmly depressed when stopped.
Quickly depressing the accelerator peda l while driving uphill may cause the
transmission to drop to a lower gear, unex pectedly increasing vehicle speed. Depress
the accelerator pedal carefully, especi ally on slippery roads and curves.
