■Auto Idle Stop does not activate when:
• The low temperature indicator is on.
• The IMA battery charge is low.
• The bars of the ASST/CHRG indicators do not move when accelerating or
decelerating.
• The vehicle comes to a stop again be fore the vehicle speed reaches 9 mph
(15 km/h) after the engine starts.
• The shift lever is in

■Auto Idle Stop may not activate when:
• The climate control system is in use, an d there is a significant difference between
the set temperature and the actual interi or temperature. (Except when in ECON
mode).
• When humidity in the interior is high.
• The vehicle is stopped by braking suddenly.
■Auto Idle Stop Activates When:1Auto Idle Stop Activates When:
The brake pedal is depresse d, the vehicle slows down
to a speed below 19 mph (30 km/h), and the clutch
pedal is fully pressed.
The engine may not stop or restart automatically if
you fail to fully depress the clutch pedal.
Keeping the proper driving po sitions makes it easier
for you to depress the clutch pedal fully.

uuChecking and Maintaining Tires uDOT Tire Quality Grading (U.S. Vehicles)
Maintenance
DOT Tire Quality Grading (U.S. Vehicles)
The tires on your vehicle meet all U.S. Federal Safety
Requirements. All tires are also graded for treadwear, traction,
and temperature performance a ccording to Department of
Transportation (DOT) standards. The following explains these
gradings.
Quality grades can be found where applicable on the tire sidewall
between tread shoulder an d maximum section width.
The treadwear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear
rate of the tire when tested un der controlled conditions on a
specified government test course. For example, a tire graded 150
would wear one and one-half (1 1/2) times as well on the
government course as a tire graded 100. The relative performance
of tires depends upon the actual conditions of their use, however,
and may depart significantly from the norm due to variations in
driving habits, service practices and differences in road
characteristics and climate.
■Uniform Tire Quality Grading
■Treadwear
1 Uniform Tire Quality Grading
For example:
Treadwear 200
Traction AA
Temperature A
All passenger car tires must conform
to Federal Safety Requirements in
addition to these grades.

Maintenance
Climate Control System Maintenance
Dust and Pollen Filter
The climate control system is equipped with a dust and pollen filter that collects
pollen, dust, and other debris in the air. The Maintenance MinderTM messages will let
you know when to replace the filter.
We recommend that you replace the dust an d pollen filter sooner when using your
vehicle in areas with high concentrations of dust.
1 Dust and Pollen Filter
If the airflow from the climate control system
deteriorates noticeably, and the windows fog up
easily, the filter may need to be replaced. Please
contact a dealer for replacement.

uuIndicator, Coming On/Blinking uIf the Charging System Indicator Comes On
Handling the Unexpected
If the Charging System Indicator Comes On
■Reasons for the indicator to come on
Comes on when the 12 volt battery is not being charged.
■What to do when th e indicator comes on
Turn off the climate control system, rear defogger, and other electrical
systems, and immediately co ntact a dealer for repairs.
1If the Charging System Indicator Comes On
If you need to stop temporarily, do not turn off the
engine. Restarting the engi ne may rapidly discharge
the 12 volt battery.
This indicator may also come on when the Auto Idle
Stop function is activated for a while. Restart the
engine. 2 Auto Idle Stop P. 196
This indicator may also come on when the IMA
battery charge drops below a desired level.
The engine starts to recharge the battery.
2 Auto Idle Stop P. 193
The indicator goes off when the battery is being
charged normally.
This indicator may blink after starting when the
outside temperature is belo w -20°F (-30°C). It will
stop blinking after the IMA battery warms up.
