Deactivating and Activating theBelt-Minder Feature (Driver Only)
WARNING
While the system allows you todeactivate it, this system is designedto improve your chances of beingsafely belted and surviving an accident.We recommend you leave the systemactivated for yourself and others who mayuse the vehicle. To reduce the risk of injury,do not deactivate or activate the systemwhile driving the vehicle.
Note:If you are using MyKey, you cannotdisable the Belt-Minder. Also, if theBelt-Minder has been previously disabled,it will be re-enabled during the use ofMyKey. See MyKey™ (page 50).
Read Steps 1 - 4 thoroughly beforeproceeding with the programmingprocedure.
Deactivate or activate the system byperforming the following procedure:
Before following the procedure, make surethat:
•The parking brake is set.
•The transmission is in park (P).
•The ignition is off.
•All vehicle doors are closed.
•The driver's safety belt is unbuckled.
1. Turn the ignition on. Do not start theengine.
2. Wait until the safety belt warning lightturns off (about one minute). Step 3must be completed within 30 secondsafter the safety belt warning light turnsoff.
3. Buckle then unbuckle the safety beltthree times at a moderate speed,ending with the safety belt in theunbuckled state. After Step 3, thesafety belt warning light will turn on.

Low-series vehicles (if equipped)
The front passenger airbag on and offswitch has an indicator that will illuminateand stay lit to remind you that the frontpassenger frontal airbag is off. Theindicator lamp is located by the radio.
Note:The indicator lamp will illuminate fora short period of time when the ignition isfirst turned on to confirm it is functional.
Turning the Passenger Airbag Off
WARNINGS
If the light fails to illuminate whenthe passenger air bag switch is offand the ignition is on, have thepassenger air bag switch serviced at yourauthorized dealer immediately.
In order to avoid inadvertentactivation of the switch, alwaysremove the ignition key from thepassenger air bag on and off switch.
WARNINGS
An infant in a rear-facing seat facesa high risk of serious or fatal injuriesfrom a deploying passenger airbag.Rear facing infant seats should never beplaced in the front seats, unless thepassenger airbag is turned off.
1. Insert the ignition key, turn the switchto OFF and hold in OFF while removingthe key.
2.When the ignition is turned on, the passairbag off light illuminates briefly,momentarily shuts off and then turnsback on. This indicates that thepassenger airbag is deactivated.
Turning the Passenger Airbag Back On
WARNINGS
The safety belts for the driver andright front passenger seatingpositions have been specificallydesigned to function together with theairbags in certain types of crashes. Whenyou turn off your airbag, you not only lose

the protection of the airbag, you also mayreduce the effectiveness of your safety beltsystem, which was designed to work withthe airbag. If you are not a person whomeets the requirements stated in theNational Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration or Transport Canadadeactivation criteria turning off the airbagcan increase the risk of serious injury ordeath in a crash.
If your vehicle has rear seats, alwaystransport children who are 12 andyounger in the rear seat. Always usesafety belts and child restraints properly.Do not place a child in a rear facing infantseat in the front seat unless your vehicle isequipped with an airbag on and off switchand the passenger airbag is turned off. Thisis because the back of the infant seat istoo close to the inflating airbag and therisk of a fatal injury to the infant when theairbag inflates is substantial.
If the pass airbag off light isilluminated when the passengerairbag switch is on and the ignitionis on, have the passenger airbag switchserviced at your authorized dealerimmediately.
The passenger airbag remains off until youturn it back on.
1. Insert the ignition key and turn theswitch to ON.
2. The pass airbag off light will brieflyilluminate when the ignition is turnedto on. This indicates that the passengerairbag is operational.
The passenger side airbag should alwaysbe on (the pass airbag off light should notbe illuminated) unless the passenger is aperson who meets the requirements statedeither in Category 1, 2 or 3 of the NationalHighway Traffic Safety Administration orTransport Canada deactivation criteriawhich follows.
The vast majority of drivers and passengersare much safer with an airbag thanwithout. To do their job and reduce the riskof life threatening injuries, airbags mustopen with great force, and this force canpose a potentially deadly risk in somesituations, particularly when a front seatoccupant is not properly buckled up. Themost effective way to reduce the risk ofunnecessary airbag injuries withoutreducing the overall safety of the vehicleis to make sure all occupants are properlyrestrained in the vehicle, especially in thefront seat. This provides the protection ofsafety belts and permits the airbags toprovide the additional protection they weredesigned to provide. If you choose todeactivate your airbag, you are losing thevery significant risk reducing benefits ofthe airbag and you are also reducing theeffectiveness of the safety belts, becausesafety belts in modern vehicles aredesigned to work as a safety system withthe airbags.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON
RADIO FREQUENCIES
This device complies with Part 15 of theFCC Rules and with Industry Canadalicense-exempt RSS standard(s).Operation is subject to the following twoconditions: (1) This device may not causeharmful interference, and (2) This devicemust accept any interference received,including interference that may causeundesired operation.
Note:Changes or modifications notexpressively approved by the partyresponsible for compliance could void theuser's authority to operate the equipment.The term IC before the radio certificationnumber only signifies that Industry Canadatechnical specifications were met.
The typical operating range for yourtransmitter is approximately 33 feet (10meters). Vehicles with the remote startfeature will have a greater range. One ofthe following could cause a decrease inoperating range:
•weather conditions
•nearby radio towers
•structures around the vehicle
•other vehicles parked next to yourvehicle
The radio frequency used by your remotecontrol can also be used by other shortdistance radio transmissions, for exampleamateur radios, medical equipment,wireless headphones, remote controls andalarm systems. If the frequencies arejammed, you will not be able to use yourremote control. You can lock and unlockthe doors with the key.
Note:Make sure to lock your vehicle beforeleaving it unattended.
Note:If you are in range, the remote controlwill operate if you press any buttonunintentionally.
REMOTE CONTROL
Integrated Keyhead Transmitters
(If Equipped)
Use the key blade to start your vehicle andunlock or lock the driver door from outsideyour vehicle. The transmitter portionfunctions as the remote control.
Note:Your vehicle’s keys came with asecurity label that provides importantvehicle key cut information. Keep the labelin a safe place for future reference.
Replacing the Battery
Note:Refer to local regulations whendisposing of transmitter batteries.
Note:Do not wipe off any grease on thebattery terminals or on the back surface ofthe circuit board.
Note:Replacing the battery will not deletethe transmitter from the vehicle. Thetransmitter should operate normally.
The remote control uses one coin-typethree-volt lithium battery CR2032 orequivalent.

Integrated Keyhead Transmitter
1. Twist a thin coin in the slot of thetransmitter near the key ring to removethe battery cover.
2. Carefully peel up the rubber gasketfrom the transmitter. It may come offwith the battery cover.
3. Remove the old battery
4. Insert the new battery. Refer to theinstructions inside the transmitter forthe correct orientation of the battery.Press the battery down to make sureit is fully in the housing.
5. Reinstall the rubber gasket.
6. Snap the battery cover back onto thetransmitter.
Memory Feature (If Equipped)
You can use the remote control to recallmemory settings for the driver seat, powermirrors and power foot pedals.
Press the unlock button on the remotecontrol to recall the memory positions. Ifyou enable the easy-entry and exit feature,the seat will move to the easy-entryposition. The seat will move to the drivermemory position when you put the key inthe ignition.
Programming to the Transmitter
1.With the ignition on, move the memoryfeatures to the desired positions usingthe associated controls.
2.Press and hold memory button 1 on thedriver door. A tone will sound afterabout two seconds. Continue to holduntil you hear a second tone.
3. Press the lock button on the remotecontrol within three seconds. A singletone sounds.
Repeat this procedure with button 2 anda second remote control if desired.
Deactivating from the Transmitter
1. Press and hold the desired memorybutton for five seconds. A tone willsound after about two seconds.Continue to hold until you hear asecond tone.
2.Press the unlock button on the remotecontrol within three seconds.
Repeat this procedure for each additionaltransmitter if desired.
Car Finder
Press the button twice withinthree seconds. The horn willsound and the turn signals willflash. We recommend you use this methodto locate your vehicle, rather than usingthe panic alarm.

Sounding a Panic Alarm
Note:The panic alarm will only operatewhen the ignition is off.
Press the button to activate thealarm. Press the button again orturn the ignition on to deactivateit.
Remote Start (If Equipped)
WARNING
To avoid exhaust fumes, do not useremote start if your vehicle is parkedindoors or areas that are not wellventilated.
Note:Do not use remote start if your vehicleis low on fuel.
The remote start button is on thetransmitter.
This feature allows you to start yourvehicle from outside the vehicle. Thetransmitter has an extended operatingrange.
Vehicles with automatic climate controlcan be set to operate when you remotestart the vehicle. See Climate Control(page 103). A manual climate controlsystem will run at the setting it was set towhen you switch the vehicle off.
Many states and provinces haverestrictions for the use of remote start.Check your local and state or provinciallaws for specific requirements regardingremote start systems.
The remote start system will not work if:
•the ignition is on
•the alarm system is triggered
•you disable the feature
•the hood is open
•the transmission is not in P
•the vehicle battery voltage is too low
•the service engine soon indicator is on.
Remote Starting the Vehicle
Note:You must press each button withinthree seconds of each other. Your vehiclewill not remote start and the horn will notsound if you do not follow this sequence.
The label on your transmitter details thestarting procedure.
To remote start your vehicle:
1. Press the lock button to lock all thedoors.
2. Press the remote start button twice.The exterior lamps will flash twice.
The horn will sound if the system fails tostart.
Note:If you remote start your vehicle withan integrated keyhead transmitter, you mustswitch the ignition on before driving yourvehicle. If you remote start your vehicle withan intelligent access transmitter, you mustpress the START/STOP button on theinstrument panel once while applying thebrake pedal before driving your vehicle.
The power windows will not work duringthe remote start and the radio will not turnon automatically.
The parking lamps will remain on and thevehicle will run for 5, 10, or 15 minutes,depending on the setting.

Extending the Vehicle Run Time
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 with the vehicle stillrunning to extend the run time for anotherremote start duration. If the duration is setto last 10 minutes, the duration will extendby another 10 minutes. For example, if thevehicle had been running from the firstremote start for five minutes, the vehiclewill continue to run now for a total of 20minutes.
Wait at least five seconds before remotestarting after a vehicle shutdown.
Turning the Vehicle Off After RemoteStarting
Press the button once. Theparking lamps will turn off.
You may have to be closer to thevehicle than when starting due to groundreflection and the added noise of therunning vehicle.
You can disable or enable the remote startsystem through the information display.See General Information (page 81).
REPLACING A LOST KEY OR
REMOTE CONTROL
Replacement keys or remote controls canbe purchased from an authorized dealer.Authorized dealers can program remotecontrols for your vehicle. See PassiveAnti-Theft System (page 58).
To re-program the passive anti-theftsystem see an authorized dealer.
