This key is used for the driver door
and glove box.
If the vehicle has the Keyless
Access system, the transmitter has
a button on the side of the
transmitter used to remove the key.
Do not pull the key out without
pressing the button.
See your dealer if a replacement
key or additional key is needed.
If it becomes difficult to turn a key,
inspect the key blade for debris.
Periodically clean with a brush
or pick.With an active OnStar subscription,
an OnStar Advisor may remotely
unlock the vehicle. See
OnStar
Overview on page 14-1.
Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) System
See Radio Frequency Statement on
page 13-12.
If there is a decrease in the RKE
operating range:
.Check the distance. The
transmitter may be too far from
the vehicle.
.Check the location. Other
vehicles or objects may be
blocking the signal.
.Check the transmitter's battery.
See “Battery Replacement” later
in this section.
.If the transmitter is still not
working correctly, see your
dealer or a qualified technician
for service.
Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) System Operation
(Key Access)
The RKE transmitter functions may
work up to 60 m (197 ft) away from
the vehicle.
Other conditions can affect the
performance of the transmitter. See
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System on page 2-5.

2. Press and slide the battery downtoward the pocket of the
transmitter in the direction of the
key ring. Do not use a metal
object
3. Remove the battery.
4. Insert the new battery, positive side facing up. Replace with a
CR2032 or equivalent battery.
5. Push together the transmitter back cover top side first, and
then the bottom toward the
key ring.
Remote Keyless Entry

The Keyless Access system allows
for vehicle entry when the
transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft). See
“Keyless Access Operation” later in
this section.
The RKE transmitter functions may

With Remote Start (without
Remote Start Similar)

If equipped, press and release

then immediately press and hold

until the turn signal flash or for at
least four seconds. The engine may
be started from outside the vehicle
using the RKE transmitter. See
Remote Vehicle Start on page 2-15.
Q(Lock): Press to lock all doors.
If enabled through the Driver
Information Center (DIC), the turn
signal lamps flash once to indicate

locking has occurred. If enabled
through the DIC, the horn chirps
when
Qis pressed again within
three seconds. See Vehicle

Pressing
Qarms the alarm system.

If equipped with auto mirror folding,
pressing and holding
Qfor
one second will fold the mirrors. The
auto mirror folding feature will not
operate unless it is enabled. See
Vehicle Personalization on
page 5-47.
K(Unlock): Press once to unlock
only the driver door. If
Kis pressed
again within three seconds, all
remaining doors unlock. The interior
lamps may come on and stay on for
20 seconds or until the ignition is
turned on.
If enabled through the DIC, the turn
signal lamps flash twice to indicate
unlocking has occurred. If enabled through the DIC, the exterior lamps
may turn on. See

If equipped, memory seat positions
may be recalled when unlocking the
vehicle if enabled. See Vehicle
Personalization on page 5-47 and
Memory Seats on page 3-7.
Pressing
Kon the RKE transmitter
disarms the alarm system. See
Vehicle Alarm System on
page 2-24.
If equipped with auto mirror folding,
pressing and holding
Kfor
one second will unfold mirrors. The
auto mirror folding feature will not
operate unless it is enabled. See
Vehicle Personalization on
page 5-47.
b(Liftgate): Press twice to open
or close the liftgate. Press once to
stop the liftgate from moving.
c(Liftglass): Press twice to open
the liftglass.
7(Vehicle Locator/Panic
Alarm): Press and release to
initiate vehicle locate. The turn
signal lamps flash and the horn
sounds three times.
Press and hold
7for more than
three seconds to activate the panic
alarm. The turn signal lamps flash
and the horn sounds repeatedly for
30 seconds. The alarm turns off
when the ignition is moved to ON/
RUN or
7is pressed again. The
ignition must be in LOCK/OFF for
the panic alarm to work.
Keyless Access Operation
The Keyless Access system allows
for doors and the liftgate to be
accessed without pressing the RKE
transmitter button. The RKE
transmitter must be within 1 m (3 ft)
of the door being opened. If the
vehicle has this feature, there will be
a button on the outside door
handles.

Keyless Access can be
programmed to unlock all doors on
the first lock/unlock press from the
driver door. SeeVehicle
Personalization on page 5-47.
Keyless Unlocking/Locking from
the Driver Door
When the doors are locked and the
RKE transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft)
of the door handle, pressing the
lock/unlock button on the driver door
handle will unlock the driver door.
If the lock/unlock button is pressed
again within five seconds, all
passenger doors and liftgate will
unlock.

Pressing the lock/unlock button will
cause all doors to lock if any of the
following occur:
.It has been more than
five seconds since the first lock/
unlock button press.
.Two lock/unlock button presses
were used to unlock all doors.
.Any vehicle door has been
opened and all doors are now
closed. Keyless Unlocking/Locking from
the Passenger Doors
When the doors are locked and the
RKE transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft)
of the door handle, pressing the
lock/unlock button on a passenger
door handle will unlock all doors.
Pressing the lock/unlock button will
cause all doors to lock if any of the
following occur:
.The lock/unlock button was used
to unlock all doors.
.Any vehicle door has been
opened and all doors are now
closed.
Passive Locking
If equipped with Keyless Access,
this feature will lock the vehicle
several seconds after all doors are
closed, if the vehicle is off and at
least one RKE transmitter has been
removed from the interior, or none
remain in the interior.
If other electronic devices interfere
with the RKE transmitter signal, the
vehicle may not detect the RKE

transmitter inside the vehicle.
If passive locking is enabled, the
doors may lock with the RKE
transmitter inside the vehicle. Do
not leave the RKE transmitter in an
unattended vehicle.
Temporary Disable Passive
Locking Feature
Temporarily disable the passive
locking by pressing and holding
K
on the interior door switch with a
door open for at least four seconds,
or until three chimes are heard.
Passive locking will then remain
disabled until
Qon the interior door
is pressed, or until the vehicle is
turned on.
To customize the doors to
automatically lock when exiting the
vehicle, see “Remote Lock, Unlock,
Start” under Vehicle Personalization
on page 5-47.
Keyless Liftgate Opening
Press the touch pad on the
underside of the liftgate handle to
open the liftgate when all doors are unlocked, or when all doors are
locked and the transmitter is within
1 m (3 ft).
Keyless Liftglass Opening
Press the exterior liftglass button to
open the liftglass when all doors are
unlocked, or when all doors are
locked and the transmitter is within
1 m (3 ft).

transmitter battery, see Door Locks

Programming Transmitters to
the Vehicle
Only RKE transmitters programmed
to the vehicle will work. If a
transmitter is lost or stolen, a
replacement can be purchased and
programmed through your dealer.
The vehicle can be reprogrammed
so that lost or stolen transmitters no longer work. Each vehicle can have
up to eight transmitters matched
to it.
Programming with a Recognized
Transmitter (Keyless Access
Vehicles Only)
A new transmitter can be
programmed to the vehicle when
there is one recognized transmitter.
To program, the vehicle must be off
and all transmitters, both currently
recognized and new, must be
with you.
1. Remove the key from the
recognized transmitter.
2. Place the recognized transmitter(s) in the cupholder or
passenger seat.

3. Insert the vehicle key into thekey lock cylinder on the driver
door handle. Then turn the key
counterclockwise, to the unlock
position, five times within
10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center
(DIC) displays READY FOR
REMOTE#2, 3, 4, ETC.
4. Place the new transmitter in the
transmitter pocket/insert.
Open the center console storage
area and the storage tray. The
transmitter pocket/insert is in front of the storage area next to
the center console storage area
between the driver and front
passenger seats.
5. Press the ENGINE START/ STOP button. When the
transmitter is learned, the DIC
display will show that it is ready
to program the next transmitter.
6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press
K
orQon the transmitter.
To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 4–6.
When all additional transmitters
are programmed, press and hold
the ENGINE START/STOP
button for approximately
12 seconds to exit
programming mode.
7. Return the key back into the transmitter. Programming without a
Recognized Transmitter (Keyless
Access Vehicles Only)
If there are no currently recognized
transmitters available, follow this
procedure to program up to eight
transmitters. This feature is not
available in Canada. This procedure
will take approximately 30 minutes
to complete. The vehicle must be off
and all transmitters to be
programmed must be with you.
1. Remove the vehicle key from the
transmitter.
2. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver
door handle; then turn the key
counterclockwise, to the unlock
position five times within
10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center
(DIC) displays REMOTE LEARN
PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

2. Lift the battery with a flat object.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Insert the new battery, positiveside toward the back cover.
Replace with a CR2032 or
equivalent battery.
5. Push together the transmitter.
Remote Vehicle Start
If equipped with the remote start
feature, the climate control system
will come on when the vehicle is
started remotely depending on the
outside temperature. The rear defog and heated and
cooled seats, if equipped, may also
come on. See
Heated and Cooled
Front Seats on page 3-9 and
Vehicle Personalization on
page 5-47.
Laws in some communities may
restrict the use of remote starters.
Check local regulations for any
requirements on remote starting of
vehicles.
Do not use remote start if the
vehicle is low on fuel.
The vehicle cannot be remote
started if:
.The key is in the ignition (Key
Access) or the transmitter is in
the vehicle (Keyless Access).
.The hood is not closed.
.There is an emission control
system malfunction and the
malfunction indicator lamp is on. The engine will turn off during a
remote vehicle start if:
.The coolant temperature gets
too high.
.The oil pressure gets low.
The RKE transmitter range may be
reduced while the vehicle is running.

Starting the Engine Using Remote

To lock or unlock the doors from
outside the vehicle:
.PressQorKon the Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
.Use the key in the driver door.
To lock or unlock the doors from
inside the vehicle:
.PressQorKon the power door
lock switch.
.Pushing down the manual lock
knob on the driver door will lock
all doors. Pushing down the
manual lock knob on a
passenger door will lock only
that door.
.Pulling an interior door handle
will unlock the door. Pulling the
door handle again unlatches it.
Keyless Access
If equipped, the RKE transmitter
must be within 1 m (3 ft) of the door
being opened. Press the button on the door handle to open. See
“Keyless Access Operation”

Key Cylinder Access
To access the key cylinder, insert
the key into slot on the bottom of
the door handle and pry cover off.
Replace the cover by snapping on
the tabs.
