doors may lock with the RKE
transmitter inside the vehicle. Do
not leave the RKE transmitter in an
unattended vehicle.
Temporary Disable Passive
Locking Feature
Temporarily disable the passive
locking by pressing and holding
K
on the interior door switch with a
door open for at least four seconds,
or until three chimes are heard.
Passive locking will then remain
disabled until
Qon the interior door
is pressed, or until the vehicle is
turned on.
To customize the doors to
automatically lock when exiting the
vehicle, see “Remote Lock, Unlock,
Start” under Vehicle Personalization
on page 5-44.
Keyless Trunk Opening
Press the touch pad on the trunk to
open the trunk if the RKE
transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft).
Programming Transmitters to
the Vehicle
Only RKE transmitters programmed
to the vehicle will work. If a
transmitter is lost or stolen, a
replacement can be purchased and
programmed through your dealer.
The vehicle can be reprogrammed
so that lost or stolen transmitters no
longer work. Each vehicle can have
up to eight transmitters matched
to it.
Programming with a Recognized
Transmitter
A new transmitter can be
programmed to the vehicle when
there is one recognized transmitter.
To program, the vehicle must be off
and all transmitters, both currently
recognized and new, must be
with you.
1. Remove the vehicle key from the recognized transmitter.
2. Place the recognized transmitter(s) in the cupholder. 3. Remove the key lock cylinder
cap. See Door Locks on
page 2-10. Insert the vehicle key
into the key lock cylinder on the
driver door handle, then turn the
key counterclockwise to the
unlock position five times within
10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center
(DIC) displays READY TO
LEARN ELECTRONIC KEY #2,
3, 4, ETC.

4. Place the new transmitter intothe transmitter pocket. The
center console storage area will
need to be opened to access the
transmitter pocket.
5. Press the ENGINE START/ STOP button. When the
transmitter is learned, the DIC
display will show that it is ready
to program the next transmitter.
6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press
K
orQon the transmitter.
To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 3–5.
When all additional transmitters
are programmed, press and hold
the ENGINE START/STOP
button for approximately
12 seconds to exit
programming mode.
7. Return the vehicle key back into the transmitter. Programming without a
Recognized Transmitter
If there are no currently recognized
transmitters available, follow this
procedure to program up to eight
transmitters. This feature is not
available in Canada. This procedure
will take approximately 30 minutes
to complete. The vehicle must be off
and all transmitters to be
programmed must be with you.
1. Remove the vehicle key from the
transmitter.
2. Remove the key lock cylinder cap. See Door Locks on
page 2-10. Insert the vehicle key
into the key lock cylinder on the
driver door handle, then turn the
key counterclockwise to the
unlock position five times within
10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center
(DIC) displays REMOTE LEARN
PENDING, PLEASE WAIT. 3. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC
displays PRESS ENGINE
START BUTTON TO LEARN
and then press the ENGINE
START/STOP button.
The DIC display will again show
REMOTE LEARN PENDING,
PLEASE WAIT.
4. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time all
previously known transmitters
will no longer work with the
vehicle. Remaining transmitters
can be relearned during the next
steps.
The DIC display should now
show READY FOR REMOTE
# 1.

Starting the Vehicle with a Low
Transmitter Battery
If the transmitter battery is weak or if
there is interference with the signal,
the DIC may display a message
when you try to start the vehicle.
See Key and Lock Messages on
page 5-36. To start the vehicle:
1. Open the center console storage
area and the storage tray.
2. Place the transmitter in thetransmitter pocket.
3. With the vehicle in P (Park) or N (Neutral), press the brake
pedal and the ENGINE START/
STOP button.
Replace the transmitter battery
as soon as possible.

Battery Replacement
{Caution
When replacing the battery, do
not touch any of the circuitry on
the transmitter. Static from your
body could damage the
transmitter.
Replace the battery if the REPLACE
BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY
message displays in the DIC.
1. Press the button on the side of the transmitter near the bottom
and pull the key out.
2. Separate the two halves of the
transmitter using a flat tool
inserted into the bottom center
of the transmitter. Do not use the
key slot.
3. Remove the old battery. Do notuse a metal object.
4. Insert the new battery on the back housing, positive side
facing down. Replace with a
CR2032 or equivalent battery.
5. Align the front and back housing then snap the transmitter
together.

Automatic Safety Belt
Tightening System
If the vehicle has Adaptive Cruise
Control (ACC), it also has the
Automatic Safety Belt Tightening
System. SeeAdaptive Cruise
Control on page 9-41.
Each time the vehicle is started with
the front safety belts buckled, the
system activates once to tighten the
safety belts when the forward
vehicle speed exceeds the
threshold for activation.
The system also activates during
emergency braking and/or sudden
driving maneuvers and releases
when driving conditions return to
normal.
The system will not activate if the
Traction Control/Electronic Stability
Control system is not functioning
properly. See Traction Control/
Electronic Stability Control on
page 9-34. If there is a problem with
the Automatic Safety Belt Tightening
System, a message displays on the
Driver Information Center (DIC). See Safety Belt Messages on page 5-41.
Other safety belt functions are not
affected by the Automatic Safety
Belt Tightening System.
Safety Belt Pretensioners
This vehicle has safety belt
pretensioners for front outboard
occupants. Although the safety belt
pretensioners cannot be seen, they
are part of the safety belt assembly.
They can help tighten the safety
belts during the early stages of a
moderate to severe frontal, near
frontal, or rear crash if the threshold
conditions for pretensioner
activation are met. Safety belt
pretensioners can also help tighten
the safety belts in a side crash or a
rollover event.
Pretensioners work only once. If the
pretensioners activate in a crash,
the pretensioners and possibly other
parts of the safety belt system will
need to be replaced. See
Replacing
Safety Belt System Parts after a
Crash on page 3-20.
Rear Safety Belt Comfort
Guides
This vehicle may have rear safety
belt comfort guides. If not, they are
available through your dealer.
Rear safety belt comfort guides may
provide added safety belt comfort
for older children who have
outgrown booster seats and for
some adults. When installed on a
shoulder belt, the comfort guide
positions the shoulder belt away
from the neck and head.

If equipped with audio steering
wheel controls, some audio controls
can be adjusted at the steering
wheel.
g(Push to Talk): Press to talk or
interact with OnStar®and
Bluetooth®. See OnStar Overview
on page 14-1 and“Bluetooth” in the
infotainment manual.
c(End Call): Press to decline an
incoming call, or end a current call.
Press to mute or unmute the
infotainment system.
SorT(Previous or Next): Press
the five-way control to the left or
right to go to the previous or next
area in the display or to the previous
or next menu.
yorz(Next or Previous):
Press the five-way control up or
down to go up or down in a list.
Press to go up or down a page. SEL (Select):
Press to select a
highlighted menu option.
CorB(Next or Previous
Favorite): Press to go to the next
or previous favorite when listening
to the radio. Press to go to the next
or previous track when listening to a
media source.
x+ orx− (Volume): Press to
increase or decrease the volume.
Heated Steering Wheel
((Heated Steering Wheel): Press
to turn the heated steering wheel on
or off. A light next to the button
displays when the feature is
turned on.

Pull the wiper lever toward you and
hold briefly to activate. The
headlamp washers will spray once,
pause, and spray again. The
headlamp washer will spray again
after five windshield wash cycles.
To refill the windshield washer fluid,
seeWasher Fluid on page 10-22.
Compass
The vehicle may have a compass
display on the Driver Information
Center (DIC). The compass receives
its heading and other information
from the Global Positioning
System (GPS) antenna,
StabiliTrak
®, and vehicle speed
information.
The compass system is designed to
operate for a certain number of
miles or degrees of turn before
needing a signal from the GPS
satellites. When the compass
display shows CAL, drive the
vehicle for a short distance in an
open area where it can receive a
GPS signal. The compass system will automatically determine when a
GPS signal is restored and provide
a heading again. See
Compass
Messages on page 5-33 for the
messages that may be displayed for
the compass.
Clock (Base Radio)
Setting the Time
To set the time:
1. Select Settings from the Home Page and select Set Time.
2. Turn the MENU knob to increase or decrease the hour.
3. Press the MENU knob to go to the next option. Press
SBACK
to go to the last menu and save
the changes.
AUTO SET
In the Set Time view, push on the
area just above the chrome bar and
below the "AUTO SET" screen
button to turn on/off the Auto Time
adjust capability.
Clock (Uplevel Radio)
The infotainment system controls
are used to access the time and
date settings through the menu
system. See “Home Page” in the
infotainment manual for information
about how to use the menu system.
Setting the Clock
Time
To set the time:
1. From the Home Page, press the SETTINGS screen button, then
press Time and Date.
2. Press Set Time, then press + or −to increase or decrease hours
or minutes, and change AM
or PM.
3. Press 12-24Hr for a 12 or 24 hour clock.
