headlights or the contro l unit for the Adaptive
Light repaired.
fi.D Light/rain sensor
El Automatic headl ights/automatic wipers:
system fault
If the indicator light t urns on and this mes ­
sage appears, the light/rain sensor is not
functioning correctly .
F or safety reasons the low beams are turned
on permanent ly with the switch in
AUTO.
However, you can continue to turn the lights
on and off using the light switch. You can still
control all funct ions that are independent of
the rain sensor through the windsh ield wiper
lever .
Contact your author iz ed Audi dealer as soon
as possible to have the problem corrected.
I-: Sport differential
App lies to vehicles: with sport different ia l
IIJ Sport differential: system fault
There is a malfunct ion with the sport differen­
tial.
Drive to your authorized Audi dea ler immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected.
IIJ Sport differential : overheating
The transmission temperature has increased
sig nificantly due to the sporty dr iv ing manner .
Dri ve i n a less sporty manner until the tem­
perature returns to the normal range and the
indicator light switches of .
A WARNING
Contact your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualif ied workshop if the sport differential
is faulty or ma lfunctioning. The repa ir
must be performed by trained personnel
using the correct oil in order to ensure
safety .

¢ Q Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal .
Whenever you use the left . or the right 1B
turn s ignal, the indicator light blinks. When
you use the emergency flashers, both indica­
tor lights flash .
If one of the turn signa l light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink twice as fast as nor­
mal. Carefully dr ive to your authorized Audi
dealer immed iately to have the malfunction
corrected. The ind icator light does not indi­
cate a malfunction if a turn signal on the trail­
er or on the vehicle fails in trailer towing
mode.

- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in mind
that road surfaces, especially bridges
and overpasses, could be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature
above 41 °F

-Always remember, even if the "snow­
flake" symbol (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isplay, black ice could be on
the road.
- Always reduce your speed and drive with special care in cold weather cond itions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.

-If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are
dr iving at a very low speed, the tempera­
ture shown in the d isplay m ight be
slightly higher than the actual outside
temperature . Thi s is caused by the heat
being radiated from the engine.
- Yo u can select the units used for temper­
ature, speed and other measurements in
the MMI.

The speed display and some of the red indica­ tor lights cannot be hidden in the MMI.
Display brightness
You can ad just the display brightness in t he
MMI. The display brightness decreases auto­
mat ica lly as the amount of light decreases.
The basic leve l of brightness is adjusted with
the ins trumen t illum ina tion ¢
page 46 .

To prevent sc ratches on t he g lass covering
the Head-up Disp lay, do not place any ob­
jects in the proj ection opening.

- Sung lasses w ith polar izat ion fi lters an d
unfavorable lighting condit ions can af­
fect the display.

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL )
The Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp ( MIL ) ¢'4 in
the instr ument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system .
T he wa rni ng/indicator light ill uminates when
the ignit io n is switched on and goes out after
the engine sta rts and the id le has stab ilized.
This indicates that the MIL is working proper­
ly .
If the light does not go out afte r th e en gine
is started, or illuminates while you are dr iv­
ing, a mal function may exist in the engine sys ­
tem.
If the lig ht illum inates, the catalyt ic con­
verter could be damaged .
Contin ue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing s ustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the cond ition corrected.
Contact your aut horized Audi dea ler.
If the light illuminates, the e lectronic speed
limiter may also be malfunct ioning . For more
information

An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

(30 km/h) and 150 mph (240 km/h). Settings
can each be adjusted in increments of 6 mph
(10 km/h) .
Cruise control
Switching on
Applies to vehicles: with cruise control
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph
(30 km/h).

The speed is kept constant v ia an engine out­
put adjustment or act ive b rake intervention .
A WARNING
--Always pay attent ion to traffic even when
the cruise co ntrol is switched on . You are
always responsib le for your speed and
the distance between your veh icle and
other veh icles .
- For safety reasons, the cruise cont ro l
should not be used in t he city, in stop­
a nd -go traffi c, on twisting roads and
when road con ditions are poor (such as
ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and hydro ­
p la ni ng) -risk of accident .
- Tu rn off the cruise co ntro l temporarily
when entering turn la nes , highway exit
lanes or in constr uction zones .
- Please note that inadve rtently "res ting"
your foot on the accelerator pedal causes the cruise control not to brake . This is
because the cruise control is overridden by the driver's acceleration.
- If a brake system malfunction s uch as
overheating occurs when the cruise con­
trol system is switched on, the braking
function in the system may be sw itched
off . The other c ruise control functions re­
main act ive as long as the indicato r light

Changing speed

You can also press the accelerator pedal down
to increase your speed, e .g . if you want to
pass someone. The speed you saved earlie r

Introduction
App lies to vehicles: with Audi adaptive cruise co ntrol
The adaptive cruise control system assists the
driver by regu lat ing vehicle speed and helping
to maintain a set distance to the vehicle
ahead, within the limits of the system.
If the
system detects a moving vehicle up ahead,
adaptive cruise control can brake and then ac­
celerate your vehicle. This helps to make driv­
ing more comfortable both on long highway
stretches and in stop-and-go traffic.
The braking guard system can warn you about
an impending collision and initiate braking
maneuvers

Adaptive cruise control and braking guard
have technical limitations that you must
know, so please read this section carefully, un­
derstand how the system works and use them
properly at all times.
General information
General information

The areas that conta in the radar and ultrason­

jects or obstructed w ith dirt, insects, snow or
i ce that will interfere with the adaptive cruise
control system and braking guard. For infor­
mation on cleaning, refer to
c:::> page 209. The same applies for any modifications made in
the front area.
T he function of the adaptive cru ise contro l
system and braking guard is limited under
some cond itions:
- Objects can only be de tected when they are
w ith in sensor range
c:::> page 86, fig. 88 .
-The system has a limited ability to detect
objects that are a short d istance ahead, off
to the side of your vehi cle or mov ing into
your lane.
- Some kinds of veh icles are hard to detect;
for examp le motorcycles, veh icles with high
ground clearance or overhanging loads may
be detected when it is too late or they may
not be detected at all.

& WARNING
A lways pay attention to traffic when adap ­
tive cruise contro l is switched on and brak­
ing g uard is active. As the driver, you are
still respons ible for starting and for main­
taining speed and distance to other ob­
jects. Braking guard is used to assist you .
The dr iver must a lways take action to avo id
a collis ion . The driver is a lways respons ible
fo r braking a t the co rrec t time.
- Imp roper use of adaptive cru ise control
can cause collisions, other acc idents and
serious pe rsonal in jury.
- Never let the comfort and convenience
that adaptive cruise control and braking gua rd offer d istract you from the need to
be alert to traffic condit ions and the
need to rema in in fu ll control of your ve­
h icle at a ll times,
- Always remember that the adaptive
cruise control and braking guard have
limits -they will not s low the vehicle
down or maintain the set distance when
you drive towards an obstacle or some­
thing on or near the road that is not
mov ing, such as vehicles stopped in a
traffic jam, a stalled o r disabled vehicle.
I f registered by the radar sensors,
