EPC Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
tronic power control .
The (m warning/indicator light (Electronic Power
Control) i llum inates when yo u switch the ignition
on as a function check.
(D Tips
If this warning/indicator light ill uminates
while you are dr iv ing, then the re is a malfunc­
tion in the eng ine electronics. Have the mal­
fu nction corrected as soon as possible by your
author ized A udi dealer or a qualified repair fa­
cility.
o Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfu nction Indicator Lamp (M IL) is part of
the On-Board Diagno stic (OB D II) system . The
symbo l
('4 lights up whe n the ign ition is switch ­
ed on and will turn off afte r th e engine has star t­
ed an d has sett le d at a constant idle speed . This
indicates that the MIL is working proper ly.
The warning ligh t illumina tes when there is a
malfunct ion in the engine e lectronic system .
Contact your authorized A udi dealer and have the
malfunctio n corrected .
An improperly close d fu e l fi ller cap may also
cause the MIL li ght to il lum inate ¢

If the r.:i indicator light turns on, a bulb has
failed. The message indicates the location of the
bulb .
- If the
II indicator light also turns on, then a
rear fog light has failed. The position of the in­
dicator light corresponds w ith the location on
the vehicle.
This warning can also occur if the light switch is
in an unengaged position between two symbols.
Vehicle lights: System fault!
If the message appears, there is a malfunction in
the headlights or light switch .
Drive to your authori zed Audi dealer immediately
to have the mal function corrected .
A WARNING
-light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode while they are being changed causing
serious personal injury. -

voltage section of gas discharge (xenon) lights. Failure to do so could result in death

appears, the light/rain sensor is not functioning
correctly.
For safety reasons the low beams are turned on
permanently with the switch in
AUTO. However ,
you can continue to turn the lights on and off us­
ing the light switch . You can still control all func­
tions that are independent of the rain sensor
through the windshield wiper lever.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible to have the problem corrected.
I-: Sport differential

Sport differential: Overheating
The transmission temperature has increased sig­

so the shade retracts automatically when you se­lect the reverse gear. To do this, select the

When lowering or raising the sunshade, make
sure there is nothing in its way and that it has
a free path to travel. This could cause person­
al injury.
@ Tips
- Pressing the button rn several times con­
secutive ly can trigger the overload protec·
tion. The sun shade can only be extended/
retracted again after a brief waiting period.
- The rear window sun shade only funct ions
when the vehicle interior is warmer than
14°F (-10°C).

vehicles with a ra in sensor* the wipers turn on in
the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds approxi ­
mately 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sensitivi ­
ty of the rain sensor* is set (switch @to the
right), the earlier the windshield wipers react to
moisture on the windshield . In some models, you
can switch ra in sensor mode off and switch inter­
mittent mode on in the MMI* . Select : !CAR I func­
tion button

In intermittent mode ,
you can adjust the interval time using the@

® -Clean the w indshie ld. To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wiper performs one af­
terwipe operation after several seconds whi le
driv ing. You can switch this function off by mov­
ing the lever to position ® within
10 seconds of
the afterwipe operation. The afterwipe function is reactivated the next time the ignition is switch­
ed on .
Cleaning the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates only when the headlights are
on . If you move the lever to position @, the
headlights are washed in intervals.
A WARNING
--The rain sensor is only intended to assist the
driver. The driver is still respons ible for
manually switch ing the wipers on according
to the visibility conditions.
- The windshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, low sun, can result in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possib le .
- Properly functioning windshield wiper
blades are required for a clear view and safe
driving

- In the case of frost, check whether the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to the

- Prior to using a car wash, the windshield
wiper system m ust be switched

position @). This helps to prevent uninten­
tiona l switching on and damage to the
windsh ield wiper system.
@ Tips
- The windshield wipers are switched off
when the ignition is turned off . Activate the
windsh ield wipers after the ignition is
switched back on by moving the windsh ield
wiper lever to any pos it ion.
- Worn or dirty windshield w iper blades result
i n streaking. This can affect the rain sensor*
funct ion. Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozzles of the windshield washer system are heated at low tempera­
tures when the ignit ion is on.
- When stopp ing temporarily, (e.g . at a traffic
li ght) the set speed of the windsh ield wipers
i s automatically reduced by one speed.

For your safety, you should replace the wiper
blades once or tw ice a year . See your author­
ized Audi dealer for replacement blades .

-The windshield wiper blades must only be
replaced when in the service position! Oth­
erwise, you risk damaging the paint on the hood or the windshield wiper motor.
- You should not move your vehicle or press
the windshield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshield .
The windshield wipers would move back in­
to their orig inal position and could damage
the hood and windshield .
- To he lp prevent damage to the wiper sys ­
tem , always loosen blades which are frozen
to the windshie ld before operat ing wipers .
- To he lp prevent damage to w iper blades, do
not use gaso line , kerosene, paint th inner, or
other solvents on or near the wiper blades.
- To he lp prevent damage to the wiper arms
or other componen ts, do not attempt to
move the wipers by hand .

surface can be cleaned.
- You can also use the service pos it ion, for ex­
amp le, if you want to protect the w indshield
from icing by using a cover.

General information
Regular, proper care helps to maintain your vehi ­
cle's value. It can a lso be a req uirement when
submitting warranty claims for corrosion damage
and paint defects on the body.
The necessary care products can be obtained
from your a uthorized Audi dea ler . Read and fol ­
l ow the instructions for use on the packaging .

- Using cleaning and care products incorrectly
can be dangerous to your health.
- Always store cleaning and care products out of reach of children to reduce the r isk of po i­
soning .

-Preferably use environmentally-friendly
products when b uying cleaning agents.
- Do not dispose of leftover cleaning and care
products with h ousehold tras h.
Car washes
The longer that deposits remain on the vehicle ,
the more the s urface may be damaged . H igh
temperatures s uch as those caused by s unlight
increase the damaging effect.
Before washing, rinse off heavy deposits with
p lenty of water.

sap are best removed w ith plenty of wa ter and a
microfiber cloth .

Pressure washers
When washing your ve hicles w ith a pressure
washer, always follow the operating instructions p rov ided with t he p ress ure washer. This is espe-

tions from the car wash operator, especially if
there are accessor ies attached to your vehicle.
If possible, use car washes th at do not h ave
brushes.
Only use car washes whe re the vehicle rem ains
stationa ry and the w ashing eq uipmen t moves
aro und the veh icle when w ash ing and dry ing . Car
washes that move the vehicle thro ugh the car
wash using a c hain are n ot recommende d.
Washing by hand
Clean the ve hicl e s tarting fro m the top and work­
i ng down using a soft sponge or cleaning b rush .

Washing vehicles with matte finish paint by
hand
To avoid d amaging the paint whe n was hing, first
r emove dus t and la rge particles from yo ur vehi ­
cle . Insects, g rease s pots and finge rprints are
best removed with a spec ial cleaner for matte
finish paint.
Apply t he p rod uct us ing a micro fiber cloth . To
avoi d damaging the paint surface, do not use too
much pressure.
Rinse the ve hicl e thoro ughly with water. Then
clean usi ng a neutra l shampoo and a soft mic ro­
fi ber cloth .
Rinse the ve hicle thoro ughly again and le t it air
dry. Remove any wate r residue using a s ham my. .,.

Releasing and opening the engine hood
The engine hood is released from inside the vehi­
cle.

Before opening the engine hood, make sure that
the windshield wipers are flat against the wind­
shield . Otherwise, they could damage the paint
on the hood.

Closing the engine hood

A hood that is not comp letely latched could
fly up and block your view while driving.
- When you close the engine hood, check it to
make sure the safety catch has properly en­
gaged . The hood should be flush with the
surrounding vehicle body parts.
- If you notice while driv ing that the hood is
not secured properly, stop at once and close
it.
Working in the engine compartment
Be especially careful whenever you work in the
engine compartment.

Whenever you must perform any work in the
engine compartment, for example checking and
filling different fluids , there i s a risk of injury ,
burns and accidents. To prevent personal injury
always observe the following WARNINGS . The
engine compartment of any vehicle is a hazard­
ous area

A WARNING

To help avoid injury, before you check any-
thing under the hood:
- Turn off the engine.
- Remove the ignition key .
- Apply the parking brake.
- Move selector lever of automatic transmis-
sion to "P" (Park) .
-Always let the engine cool down. Hot com ­
ponents wi ll burn skin on contact .
- To reduce the risk of being burned, never
open the hood if you see or hear steam o r
coo lant escaping from the engine
