EPC Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the elec
tronic power control .
The (m warning/indicator light (Electronic Power
Control) i llum inates when yo u switch the ignition
on as a function check.
(D Tips
If this warning/indicator light ill uminates
while you are dr iv ing, then the re is a malfunc
tion in the eng ine electronics. Have the mal
fu nction corrected as soon as possible by your
author ized A udi dealer or a qualified repair fa
cility.
o Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfu nction Indicator Lamp (M IL) is part of
the On-Board Diagno stic (OB D II) system . The
symbo l
('4 lights up whe n the ign ition is switch
ed on and will turn off afte r th e engine has star t
ed an d has sett le d at a constant idle speed . This
indicates that the MIL is working proper ly.
The warning ligh t illumina tes when there is a
malfunct ion in the engine e lectronic system .
Contact your authorized A udi dealer and have the
malfunctio n corrected .
An improperly close d fu e l fi ller cap may also
cause the MIL li ght to il lum inate ¢

engine is no longe r in the critical temperature

I f the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine contro l ma lf u nction, the indicato r light
(m also turns on. Make sure that the speed does
not g o above the speed disp layed. Dr ive to your

If the r.:i indicator light turns on, a bulb has
failed. The message indicates the location of the
bulb .
- If the
II indicator light also turns on, then a
rear fog light has failed. The position of the in
dicator light corresponds w ith the location on
the vehicle.
This warning can also occur if the light switch is
in an unengaged position between two symbols.
Vehicle lights: System fault!
If the message appears, there is a malfunction in
the headlights or light switch .
Drive to your authori zed Audi dealer immediately
to have the mal function corrected .
A WARNING
-light bulbs are pressurized and could ex
plode while they are being changed causing
serious personal injury. -
- Work with due care when handling the high
voltage section of gas discharge (xenon) lights. Failure to do so could result in death
or serious injury.

appears, the light/rain sensor is not functioning
correctly.
For safety reasons the low beams are turned on
permanently with the switch in

you can continue to turn the lights on and off us
ing the light switch . You can still control all func
tions that are independent of the rain sensor
through the windshield wiper lever.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible to have the problem corrected.

off the anti-theft alarm when you try to
sta rt t he engine o r open a door. In case this

The vehicle can be locked and unlocked at any door. The remote control key cannot be more
than 1.5 m away from the door hand le . It makes
no difference whether the master key is in your
jacket pocket or in your brief case .
I f you grip the door handle while locking, this can
adversely affect the locking function.
It is not possible to re-open the door for a brief
period directly after closi ng it . This allows you to
ensure that the doors are properly locked.

I f your vehicle has been stand ing fo r an ex
tended period, please note the fol low ing :
- The proxim ity sensors are deactivated after
a few days to save power. You then have to p ull on the door handle once to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open t he vehi
cle.
- To prevent the battery from being dis
charged and to preserve your vehicle's abili
ty to start for as long as possible, the ener
gy management system gradually switches
off unnecessary convenience functions.
It is
possib le that you will not be able to unlock
your vehicle using these convenience func
tions .

If you lock the veh icle using the power locking
switch , please note the following:
- If a door is open, the veh icle cannot be locked
using the power lock ing system switch.
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid from
the
outside (increased security, for example
when you are stopped at a red light) .
- The d iodes in the power locking switch illumi
nate when all the doors are closed and locked .
- You can unlock and open the doors from the in
side by pulling on the doo r handle .
-If you have a crash and the airbag is activated,
the doors automatically unlock .
A WARNING
- The power locking switch works with the ig
nition off and automatically locks the entire
vehicle when it is actuated.
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inoperat ive .
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the veh icle,
which puts lives at r isk. Do not leave anyone
be hind in the veh icle, especially children .

adaptive light*
When switched on, adap tive ligh t ad apts to
c u rves in the road depend ing on the vehicle
speed and the steering ang le . This provides bet
te r li ght ing t hrough the curve. The system oper
ates at speeds between approximately 6 mph
(10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static cornering light* (vehicles with adaptive
light) -the corne ring light switches on at speeds
u p to approximate ly 25 mph (40 km/h) when a
certain steering wheel angle is reached or when a
tu rn s ignal is activated. The a rea to the side of
the ve hicle is illuminated bet ter when turning .
The adaptive light and the corner ing light only
funct ion when the switc h is in t he AUTO position
(automat ic head lights*) .

--Daytime r unning lights and automatic head·
lights * are only in tended to assis t the driver .
Th ey do not relieve the d river of his respon
s ibi lity t o check the he ad lig hts and to tur n

retracted again after a brief waiting period.
- The rear window sun shade only funct ions
when the vehicle interior is warmer than
14°F (-10°C).

the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds approxi
mately 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sensitivi
ty of the rain sensor* is set (switch @to the
right), the earlier the windshield wipers react to
moisture on the windshield . In some models, you
can switch ra in sensor mode off and switch inter
mittent mode on in the MMI* . Select : !CAR I func

® -Clean the w indshie ld. To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wiper performs one af
terwipe operation after several seconds whi le
driv ing. You can switch this function off by mov
ing the lever to position ® within
10 seconds of
the afterwipe operation. The afterwipe function is reactivated the next time the ignition is switch
ed on .
Cleaning the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates only when the headlights are
on . If you move the lever to position @, the
headlights are washed in intervals.
A WARNING
--The rain sensor is only intended to assist the
driver. The driver is still respons ible for
manually switch ing the wipers on according
to the visibility conditions.
- The windshield may not be treated with wa
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark
ness, low sun, can result in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possib le .
- Properly functioning windshield wiper
blades are required for a clear view and safe
driving
