keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start the engine and/or act ivate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power w indows etc . Un­
supervised operation of any veh icle sys­
tem by ch ildren can res ult in serious in­
Jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock un til the vehicl e has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col­
um n lo ck could sud denly e ngage -caus ­
ing the risk of an accident.

- The operation of the remote cont ro l key
c a n be tempo rarily disru pted by in terfer­
ence from tran smi tters in t he v ici nity of
t h e veh icle work ing in the same frequen ­

" The check light turns on b riefly once when a
bu tton is pressed , and during an " inquiry "
by the convenience key system .
" If the check light does not come on, the bat­
t ery is dead a nd has to be replaced. In addi­

Emergency unlocking of the ignition key
In the event of malfunctions in the electrical
system, it may happen that you cannot re­
move the ignition key .
• Remove the mechanical key Q page 32.
• Lock the vehicle using the mechanical key
Q page 3 5.
• Have the electrica l system inspected by an
authori zed Audi dealership .

This feature prevents the vehicle from being
accidentally left unlocked over a long period of time.

MMI * whether the entire vehicle is unlocked
or only certain doors

On vehicles with automatic transmission, the
selector lever must be in the P position, other­
wise the vehicle cannot be locked.

- In order to make sure the locking func ­
tion is working, you should a lways keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked.
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherwise you may unin­
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a door . In case this happens anyhow, push
t he unlock button@.
- Use the pan ic function only if you are in
an emergency s ituation.

The vehicle can be locked and unlocked at any
door . The remote control key cannot be more
than 1.5 m away from the door hand le. It
makes no difference whether the mas ter key
is in your jacket pocket or in your brief case.
If you grip the door handle while locking, this
can adversely affect the locking function. I t is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period direct ly after closing it. This al­
lows you to ens ure that the doors are properly
locked.

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended period, please note the following:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second t ime to
open the vehicle .
- To prevent the battery from being d is­
charged and to preserve your vehicle's
ability to start for as long as possib le,
the energy management system gradu­ ally switches off unne cessary conven­
ience func tions.

Correcting window regulator
, malfunction
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the
one -touch up and down feature must be acti­
vated again.
.. Pull and hold the power window switch until
the window is completely closed .
.. Release the switch and pull the sw itch again
for one second.
Valet parking
App lies to vehicles: wi th vale t parking function
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage compartment from unauthorized ac­
cess .

You can switch the "valet parking function" on
when someone else is parking your vehicle .
When the function is switched on, the vehicle
can be driven, locked and unlocked using the
master key, but access to the luggage com­
partment is not permitted.

The cause of the malfunction
should be corrected by an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized repair facility
as soon as possible.
- The vehicle is not protected from the
weather or from unauthorized entry if
the vehicle is left parked with the power
top open. Lock any objects you are leav­ ing in the vehicle in the luggage com­
partment. Close the power top before
leaving the vehicle.
- The side windows lower slightly auto­
matically when opening/closing the pow­
er top .

Activating and deactivating

Adjusting the display brightness
Applies to vehicles: with Audi side assist
The signal brightness can be set in the radio
orMMI* .

assist.
The display brightness adjusts automatically
to the brightness of the surroundings, both in
the information and in the warning stage. In
very dark or very bright surroundings, the dis­ play is already set to the minimum or maxi ­
mum level by the automatic adjustment. In
Audi side assist 101
such cases, you may notice no change when
adjusting the br ightness, or the change may
only be noticeable once the surroundings
change.
Adjust the brightness to a level where the dis­
play in the information stage will not disrupt
your view forward. If you change the bright­
ness, the display in the exterior mirror will
briefly show the brightness level in the infor­
mation stage. The brightness of the warning
stage is linked to the brightness in the infor­
mation stage and is adjusted along with the
information stage adjustment.
(D Tips
- Side assist is not active while you are
making the adjustment.
- Your settings are automatically stored
and assigned to the remote control key
being used.
Driver messages
Applies to vehicles: wit h Aud i side ass ist
If side assist switches off by itself, the LED in
the button turns off and a message will ap­
pear in the instrument cluster display:
Audi side assist unavailable: Sensors blocked
The radar sensors' vision is affected . Do not
cover the area in front of the sensors with bike
wheels, stickers, dirt or other objects. Clean
the area in front of the sensors, if necessary
¢ page 99, fig. 117 .
Audi side assist: Currently unavailable
Side assist cannot be switched on temporarily
because there is a malfunction (for example,
the battery charge level may be too low) .
Audi side assist: System fault!
The system cannot guarantee that it will de­
tect vehicles correctly and it is switched off.
The sensors have been displaced or are faulty.
Have the system checked by an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility
soon.
