Turn the knob to the desired position :
Q/P -In this position, you can adjust the driv­
er's and front passenger 's exterior mirrors by
turning the knob in the desired direction .
(@ -The mirrors are heated depending on the
outside temperature.
8 - The exterior mirrors fold in*
You are well-advised to fold the exterior mirrors in when maneuvering in tight spaces or when
leaving the car parked close to other vehicles.
A WARNING
-
- Curved (i .e. convex) mirror surfaces in­
crease your field of view . Remember that
vehicles or other objects will appear smaller
and farther away than when seen in a flat
mirror. If you use this mirror to est ima te
distances of following vehicles when chang­
ing lanes, you could estimate incorrectly
and cause an accident.
- If th e mirror housing is moved unintent ion­
a lly (for example, wh ile parking your vehi­
cle), then you must first fold the mirror
electrically. Do not readjust the mirror hous­
ing manually. You could damage the motor
which controls the mirror.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, you must fold the exterior mirrors in
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.
Never fold power folding exterior mirrors*
by hand . Only fold them in and out using
the power controls.
(D Tips
If there should be a malfunction in the elec­
trical system, you can still adjust the exter ior
m irrors by pressing the edge of the mirror .

.. Move the small lever (located on the bottom
edge of the mirror) to the rear .
Automatically dimming mirrors*
.. To dim the rearview m irror and both exterior
mirrors, press the@ button. The diode @
turns on . The rearview and exterior mirrors dim
automatically when light shines on them, for
example from headlights on a vehicle to the
rear.
A WARNING
Electrolyte fluid can leak from automatic dim­
ming mirrors if the glass is broken. Electrolyte
fluid can irritate skin, eyes and respiratory
system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to electro­
lyte can cause irritat ion to the respiratory
system, especially among people with asth­
ma or other respiratory conditions. Get
fresh air immediately by leaving the vehicle
or, if that is not possible, open windows and
doors all the way.
- If electrolyte gets into the eyes, flush them
thoroughly with large amounts of clean wa­
ter for at least 15 minutes; medical atten­
tion is recommended .
- If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affected
area with clean water for at least 15 mi­
nutes and then wash affected area with
soap and water; medical attention is recom­
mended. Thoroughly wash affected clothing
and shoes before reuse.

Service position
It is only possible to change wiper blades if you move the wiper arms to the service position .
In order to use the windshield wipers, the front
lid must be completely closed.

Never drive yo ur vehicle when the windshield
wiper arms are in the service position and
pulled away from the windshield. When you
drive faster than 4 mph (6 km/h), the wiper
arms automatically return to the park posi­
tion and could cause paint damage to the
front lid!

- You can also turn on the service pos ition, for
example, if you want to protect the wind­
sh ield from ic ing by using a cover .
- The service position moves to

Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshie ld w iper b lades when they be­
gin to leave strea ks. Use a soft cloth and g lass
cleaner to clean t he windshie ld w iper blades.

The climate controls automatically maintain the selected temperature in the vehicle interior through­
out each season .

Using the previously recommended setting is the
qu ickest way to ach ieve a comfortable climate in
the vehicle . This setting should therefore on ly be
changed when personal comfort levels or certain
circumstances req uire it .
The climate controls are a combination of a uto­
mat ic heating and vent ilation systems and a cool­
ing system which dehum idifies and cools the air
ins ide the veh icle .
The climate controls automatically maintain a
temperature once it has been set. The tempera­ ture of the air from the ve nts, fan speed (air vol ­
ume) and air d istr ibut ion are also a utomat ically
adj usted. The system also takes into account
strong sunshine so that manua l adjustment is
n o t necessary. So in almost all ca ses,
automatic
mode
offers the best conditions for the comfo rt of the occupants at a
ll times of the year

Please note :
In cooling mode , relative humidity in the interior
is reduced. This prevents the windows from fog­
ging up .
When relative hum idity a nd temperatures o ut­
s ide are high,
condensation can drip from the air
condit ioning evaporator and form a pool of water
under the vehicle . This is normal and not an indi ­
cation of a leak!
When outs ide temperatures are low, the fan does
not switch to a higher speed unti l the coolant has
reached an adequate temperat ure, with the ex ­
cept ion of the defrost setting .
When accelerating a t wide-open throttle, the ai r
condit ioning compressor is temporari ly switched
off to ma intain full eng ine power .
In order to ensure engine coo ling under ext reme
engine loads, the compressor is switched off if
coolant temperatures climb too high .

Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter (particle filter) ensures that
contaminants in the outside air (such as dust or
pollen) are great ly reduced or stopped. The air is
also filtered i n recirculation mode.
The pollutant filter e lement must be changed ac­
cording to the intervals spec ified in the mainte­
nance schedu le so that the a ir cond ition ing sys­
tem's performance is not adversely affected.
If the f ilter's effect iveness is weakened by driving
the vehicle in areas with heavily polluted outside
air, the filter eleme nt should also be changed be­
tween the listed serv ices .
A WARNING
For safety reasons, it is impo rtant that all
w indows are free o f ice, snow, and conde nsa­
ti on. Only then is good visib ility ensured.
P lease fam iliarize yourse lf with the co rrec t
operation of the air conditioning an d how to
dehumidify/defrost the windows.

- To avoid adve rsely affecting heati ng and
cooling pe rformance and to prevent con­
densation on the w indows , the air intake in
front of the windshield must be free of ice,
snow , and leaves.
- Climate contro l works most effectively if the
windows are closed. However, if the interior
of a parked vehicle is extremely hot from
t h e su n's rays, br iefly opening the windows
can speed up the coo ling p rocess.
Setting temperature

To set a lowe r temperature, tu rn the rotary knob
to t he left. To set a h igher tempera ture, tu rn t he

pera ture as needed .

Rear window defogger
The r ear window d efogger clears th e re ar win­
dow of cond ensation .

the rear window defogger on and off.
The rear w indow defogger works only when the
engine is running. The indicator light in the but­
ton illuminates when the rear window defogger
is turned on .
The window between the cockpit and engine
compartment is also cleared with the rear w in­
dow.
The rear window defogger is switched off auto­
mat ica lly after approx. 10 minutes.
@ For the sake of the environment
As soon as the rea r window is clear, yo u
should switch the rear window defogger off .
The reduced power consumpt ion has a benef i­
cial effect on f uel consumption.
Heated seats

Automat ic operation ensures constant tempera­
tures in the interior and dehumidifies the air in­
s ide the veh icle. Air temperature, vo lume, and
distribution are controlled automatically to reach
or maintain the desired interio r temperature as
quic kly as possible. Fluc tuat io ns in exterio r tem­
perature and the effects of temperature from the
pos it ion of t he sun are compe nsated for auto­
matically.
Manual air recirculation mode~
The recirculation mode prevents polluted outside
air from entering the vehicle in te rior.

eration - the heating and venti lation system is

Using the climate controls economically
Economical use of the climate controls helps to
save fuel.
When climate control is working in coo ling mode,
engine performance is red uced and fuel con­
sumpt ion is affected. To keep the time the air
conditioning is on as short as possible, you
should do the following:
~ If you would like to save f uel, switch the air
condit ion ing
off.
~ If you open the w indows wh ile driving, switch
the a ir cond it ion ing
off .
~ If the vehicle is ext remely hot due to the heat
of the sun, briefly open doors and w indows.
@ For the sake of the environment
When you save fuel, you reduce em iss ions
from the vehicle .

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of
the vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's abili­
ty to concentrate on the road without being dis­
tracted.
The driver is respons ible for the safety of the ve­
h icle and all of its occupants . If your ability to
d rive is impaired, safety r isks for everybody in the
ve hicle increase and you also become a hazard to
everyone else on the road ¢A -Therefore:
• Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers
or by us ing a cell ular te lephone.
• NEV ER dr ive when your dr iv ing ability is im­
paired (by medicat ions, alcohol, dr ugs, e tc.).
• Observe all traffic laws, ru les of the road and
speed limits and plain common sense.
• ALWAYS ad just your speed to road, traffic and
weather conditions.
• Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not drive
for more than two hours at a stretch .
• Do NOT drive when you are t ired, under pres­
sure or when you are stressed .
A WARNING
Impaired driving safety increases the risk of
ser ious personal in ju ry and death whenever a
vehicle is being used.

Driving S afely
For yo ur own sa fety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
that you adjust the dr iver's seat to the following
pos ition:
• Adjust the steering wheel so that there is a dis ­
tance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) between the
steer ing whee l and your breast bone

• Adjust the driver's seat so that you can easily
push the pedals all the way to the floor while
keeping your knee(s) slightly bent<=>

• Grasp the top of the steer ing whee l with your
elbow(s) slightly bent .
• Adjust the head rest rain t so the upper edge is
as even as possib le w it h t he top of yo ur head.
If
that is no t possib le, try to ad just the head re­
straint so that it is as close to this pos ition as
possible .
• Adjust the steering wheel so that the steering
wheel and airbag cover points at your chest and
not at your face .
• Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is in
an upr ight position so that you r bac k comes in
full contact with it when you dr ive.
• Fas ten and wear safe ty belts corre ct ly
<=>page 95.
• Always keep both feet in the footwe ll so that
you are in control of the vehicle at all times.

A WARNING
-Drivers who are unbelted, o ut of position or
too close to the airbag can be seriously in­
jured by an airbag as it dep loys. To help re­
duce the risk of serious personal injury:
- Always adj ust the driver 's seat and the
steer ing whee l so that there are at least
10 i nches (25 cm) between your breastbo ne
and the steering wheel.
- Always adjust the driver 's seat and the
steer ing whee l so that there are at least
4 inches (10 cm) between the knees and the
lowe r part of the instrument panel.
- Always hold the steering wheel on t he out­
side of the steer ing wheel r im with yo ur
hands at the 9 o 'clock and 3 o'clock

Importance of wearing safety belts and
sitting properly
Airbags are only supplemental restraints . For
airbags to do their job , occupants must always
properly wear their safety belts and be in a prop­
er seating position.
For your safety and the safety of your passen­
gers, before driving off, always:

In a collision airbags must inflate within the b link
of an eye and with cons iderable force. The sup­
plemental a irbags can cause injuries if the driver
or the front seat passenger are not seated prop­
erly . Therefore in order to help the airbag to do
its job, it is important, both as a dr iver and as a
passenger to sit properly at all times.
By keep ing room between your body and the
steer ing wheel and the front of the passenger
compartment, the airbag can inflate fully and
comp lete ly and provide supp lemental p rotec tion
in certa in fronta l co llisions ¢

There is a lot that the driver and the passenger
can and must do to help the ind iv idual safety fea­
tures insta lled i n your Aud i work together as a
system.
Proper seat ing pos ition is important so that t he
front airbag on the dr iver side can do its job . If
you have a p hys ica l impairment o r condition that
p revents you from sitt ing p roperly on the driver
seat with the safety be lt properly fastened and

reaching the pedals, or if you have concerns with
regard to the function or operatio n of the Ad­
vanced Airbag System, please contact your a u­

for poss ible modifications to your vehicle .
When the airbag system dep loys, a gas generator
will fill the airbags, break open the padded cov­ ers, and inflate between the steering wheel and
the driver and between the instrument panel and
the front passenger . Th e airbags w ill deflate im­
med iate ly after deployment so that the front oc­
cupants can see t hrough the w indshield aga in
without i nte rruption .
All of th is takes place in the blink of an eye , so
fast that many people don't even realize that the
a irbags have deployed. The airbags also inflate
with a grea t deal of force and nothing sho uld be
i n the ir way when they dep loy. Front a irbags in
combination with properly worn safety belts s low
down and limit the occ upant's forward move­
ment . T ogether they he lp to prevent the driver
and passenger from hitt ing parts of the inside
the ve hicle while reducing the forces ac ting on
the occupant during the crash . In this way they
help to reduce the risk of injury to the head and
upper body in the crash. A irbags do not protect
the arms o r the lowe r parts of the body.
Both front a irbags w ill not inflate in all fronta l
collisions. The t rigge ring of the a irbag system de­
pends on the veh icle deceleration rate caused by
the coll is ion a nd registe red by the elec tronic con­
trol uni t. If th is rate is below the reference val ue
programmed into the contro l unit , the airbags
will not be t rigge red , even thoug h the car may be
badly damaged as a result of t he collisio n. Vehi ­
cle damage, repair costs or even the lack of vehi­
cle damage is not necessarily an indication of
whether an a irbag should infla te or not .
It is not possib le to define a range of vehicle
speeds that w ill cover every possib le kind and an­
gle of impact that will always trigger the a irbags,
s ince the circums tances w ill vary considerably be­
tween one collision and another . Important fac ­
tors include, for example, the natu re (ha rd or
soft) of the object wh ic h the car hits, the angle of
