Weight distribution
Towing a loaded trai ler with an empty car res ults
in a high ly unstable distribution of weight. If this
cannot be avoided , drive at very low speeds only
to avoid the risk of losing steering contro l.
A "balanced" rig is easier to operate and control.
This means that the tow vehicle should be loaded
to the extent possible and permissible, while
keeping the trailer as light as possible under the
circumstances. Whenever possible, transfer
some cargo to the luggage compartment of the
tow vehicle while observing tongue load require­
ments and vehicle loading considerations .
Speed
The higher the speed, the more difficult it be­
comes for the driver to control the rig . Do not
drive at the maximum permiss ible speed. Reduce
your speed even more if load, weathe r or wind
conditions are unfavorable - particularly when
going downhill.
Reduce vehicle speed
immediately if the trailer
shows the s lightest sign of swaying .
Do not try
to stop the swaying by accelerating.
Observe speed limits. In some areas, speeds for
veh icles towing trailers are lower than for regular
ve hicles .
A lways app ly brakes ear ly. When driving down­
hill, shift into a lower gear to use the engine
brak ing effect to slow the vehicle. Use of the
brakes alone can cause them to overheat and fa il.
Coolant temperature
The coolant temperature gauge c::> page 10 must
be observed carefully.
If the need le moves close
to the upper end of the scale, reduce speed im­
mediately and/or turn off the a ir condit ioner.
If the coo lant temperature warning light in the
instr ument cluster starts flashing •• pu ll off
the road, stop and let the engine
idle for about
two minutes to prevent heat build-up.
A WARNING
Anyone not properly restrained in a moving
vehicle is at a much greater r isk in an acc i-

dent. Never let anyone ride in your car who is
not properly wearing the restraints provided
by Audi.
Trailer mode notes
Important to know
Your vehicle handles differently when towing a
trai ler because of the additiona l weight and dif­
ferent we ight distribution . Safety, performance
and economy will greatly depend on how careful ­
l y you load your trailer and operate your rig.
Before you actua lly tow your trai ler, practice
turning, stopping and backing up in an area away
from traffic . Keep practicing until you have be ­
come comp lete ly familiar with the way your vehi­
cle-trailer comb inat ion behaves and responds.
Backing up is difficult and requires practice. Back­
ing up with a trai ler generally requires steering
action opposite to that when backing up your ve­
hicle without a tra iler.
Maintain a greater distance between your vehicle
and the one in front of you. Yo u will need more
room to stop. To compensate for the trailer, you
will need a larger than normal turn ing radius.
When passing, remember that you cannot accel­
erate as fast as you norma lly wou ld because of
the added load. Make sure you have enough room
to pass. After passing, allow plenty of room for
your tra iler before changing lanes again.
Avoid jerky starts , sharp t urns or rapid lane
changes.
@ Tips
- Do not tow a trailer during the break-in peri­
od of your vehicle.
- If you tow a trailer, your Audi may requi re
more frequent maintenance due to the ex­
tra load

Care and cleaning
Care and cleaning
General information
Regular, proper care he lps to maintain your vehi ­
cle's value.
It can also be a requirement when
submitting warranty claims for corrosion damage
and paint defects on the body.
The necessary care products can be obtained
from your authorized Audi dealer . Read and fol­
low the instructions for use on the packaging.
A WARNING
-Using cleaning and care products incorrectly
can be dangerous to your health.
- Always store cleaning and care products out of reach of children to reduce the risk of poi­
soning .
@ For the sake of the environment
-Preferably use environmentally-friendly
products when buying cleaning agents.
- Do not dispose of leftover cleaning and care
products with household trash .
Car washes
The longer that deposits such as insects, bird
droppings, tree sap or road sa lt remain on the ve­
hicle, the more the surface can be damaged. High
temperatures such as those caused by sunlight
increase the damaging effect .
Before washing, rinse off heavy deposits with
plenty of water.
Stubborn deposits such as bird droppings or tree
sap are best removed with plenty of water and a
microfiber cloth .
Also, wash the underside of your vehicle once
road salt stops being used for the season.
Pressure washers
When washing your veh icles with a pressure
washer, always follow the operating instructions
p rovided with the pressure washer. This is espe­
cially important in regard to the pressure and
spraying distance. Do not aim the spray direct ly
at seals on side windows, doors, the hood, the

rear lid or the sunroof* or at tires, rubber hoses,
insulating material, sensors* or camera lenses*.
Keep a distance of at least 16 inches (40 cm).
Do not remove snow and ice with a pressure
washer.
Never use rotary nozzles or high pressure noz­
zles.
The water temperature must not be above 140 °F
(60 °().
Automatic car washes
Spray off the vehicle before washing.
Make sure that the windows and roof* are closed
and the windshie ld wipers are off . Follow instruc­
tions from the car wash operator, especially if
there are accessories attached to your vehicle.
If possible, use car washes that do not have
brushes.
Washing by hand
Clean the veh icle starting from the top and work­
i ng down using a soft sponge or cleaning b rush .
Use solvent-free cleaning products.
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint by
hand
To avoid damaging the paint when washing, first
remove dust and large particles from your vehi­
cle. Insects, grease spots and fingerprints are
best removed with a special cleaner for matte
finish paint .
Apply the product using a microfiber cloth . To
avoid damaging the paint surface, do not use too
much pressure.
Rinse the vehicle thoroughly with water. Then
clean using a neutra l shampoo and a soft micro­
fiber cloth .
Rinse the vehicl e thoroughly again and let it air
dry. Remove any water residue using a shammy.

The windshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents . Un­
favorab le conditions such as wetness, dark­
ness, or low sun can resu lt in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possible.
@ Note
- Headlights/tail lights
- Never clean headlights or tail lights with a
dry cloth or sponge.
- Do not use any cleaning product that con­
tains alcohol, because they could cause
cracks to form.
- Wheels
-
- Never use any paint polish or other abra­
sive materials.
- Damage to the protective layer on the
rims such as stone chips or scratches must
be repaired immediately.
- Sensors/camera lenses
-Never use warm or hot water to remove
snow or ice from the camera lens. This
could ca use the lens to crack.
- Never use abrasive cleaning materials or
alcohol to clean the camera lens. This
could cause scratches and cracks.
- Door windows
-Remove snow and ice on windows and ex-
terior mirrors with a plastic scraper. To

_& WARNING
Under normal operating conditions, never car ­
ry additional fuel containers in your car. Gas
canisters and other containers used to trans­
port fuel can be dangerous. Such containers,
full or empty, may leak and could cause a fire
in a collision. If you must transport fuel to
use for your lawn mower, snow blower, etc.,
be very careful and a lways observe loca l and
state laws rega rding the use, transportation
and sto rage of such fuel containers. Make cer­
tain the container meets industry standards
(ANSI/ASTM F852 -86) .
(D Note
Never d rive you r vehicle unt il the fuel tank is
comp letely empty. The irreg ular supply of
fue l can cause m isfiring. Gasoline cou ld enter
the exhaust system and damage the catalytic
converter.

When activating the central lock ing, the fue l fill­
er flap is automatically un locked or locked. Re­
fue l the vehicle with the ignition turned

Re fuelling proce dure
.. Insert the fuel nozzle from the gasoline pump
into the fue l filler neck as far as it will go.
.. Select a medium refuelling rate so that the
nozzle switches off automatically when the
tank is full.

.. After f illing your tank, twist the fuel cap clock-
wise as far as it will go.
.. Close the fuel filler flap.
To avoid fuel spilling or evaporating from the fuel
tank always close fue l cap proper ly and com­
plete ly. An improper ly closed fue l filler cap may
also cause the MIL lamp

_& WARNING
Imp roper refueling or handling of fuel can
cause fire, explosion and severe burns.
- Fue l is highly flammable and can cause se­
vere burns and other injur ies.

- Failure to shut the engine off while refuel­
ing and/or to insert the pump nozzle fully
into the fue l filler neck could cause fuel to
spray out of filler neck or to overflow. Fue l
spray and overflowing fue l can cause a fire.
- Never use a ce llular telephone while refuel­
ing. The electromagnetic radiation can
cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors and
cause a fire.
- Never get back into your vehicle wh ile refu­
eling. If in except iona l circumstances you
m ust get back in your vehicle whi le refue l­
ing, make certain that yo u close the door
and touch metal to discharge static electric-
ity before touching the filler nozz le aga in.

Filling AdBlue

The Ad Blue tank opening is located near the die­
sel tank opening . Add at least 1 gallon (3 .8 lit­
ers) of AdBlue. This is the m inimum amount re­
qu ired to ensure the system detects the ref illing
and to start the eng ine. You can fill a maximum
of 6 ga llons (23 l iters).
Requirement: The request to add Ad Blue must
appear in the instrument cluster display.

A WARNING
Ad Blue can irritate the skin, eyes and respira­
tory system. If there is contact with the fluid,
flush immediately with plenty of water. Con­ sult a physician if necessary.
CI) Note
- Only use Ad Blue that conforms to the
standard ISO 22241-1. Do not mix any addi­
tives with the AdBlue and do not dilute it
with water.
- Do not add Ad Blue to the diesel tank or add
diesel fuel to the Ad Blue tank. Mixing can
lead to damage to the eng ine and the Ad B l­
ue tank system.
- AdBlue attacks surfaces such as painted ve­
hicle components, plastic and carpet. Re-

move the fluid as quickly as possible with a
damp cloth and plenty of cold water. If the
Ad Blue has already crystall ized, use warm
water and a sponge. Ad Blue residue that is
not removed will crystallize and can damage
the affected surface.
- Do not store refill bottles or can isters per­
manently in the vehicle. If the container
leaks, the escaping AdBlue could damage
the vehicle interior.
- Do not allow Ad Blue to come into contact
with clothing. If there is contact w ith the
fluid, flush immediately with plenty of wa­
ter .
@ Tips
Follow the AdBlue manufacturer's instruc­
tions for use and storage.

ment. Wait until no steam or coolant can be

A hood that is not completely latched cou ld

- When you close the engine hood, check it to
make sure the safety catch has properly en­
gaged . The hood should be flush with the
surrounding vehicle body parts .
- If you notice while driv ing that the hood is
not secured properly, stop at once and close
it .
Working in the engine compartment
Be especially careful whenever you work in the
engine compartment.

To help avoid injury, before you check any­
thing under the hood:
- Turn off the eng ine.
- Remove the ignition key.
- Apply the parking brake.

- Move selector lever of automatic transmis-
sion to P (Park).

-Always let the engine cool down. Hot com­
ponents will burn skin on contact .
- To reduce the risk of being burned, never
open the hood if you see or hear steam or
coolant escaping from the engine compart­
ment . Wait until no steam or coolant can be
seen or heard before carefully opening the
hood.
- Keep children away from the engine com­
partment .
- Never spill fluids on hot engine compo­
nents . They can cause a fire .
- Never touch the radiator fan. The auxiliary
electric fan is temperature controlled and
can switch on suddenly.
- Never open the coolant reservoir cap when
the engine is still warm. The coolant system
is pressurized and hot coolant could spray
out .
- Protect your face, hands and arm from steam or hot engine coolant by placing a
thick rag over the cap when you open the coolant reservoir .
- Do not remove the engine cover under any
circumstances. This increases the risk of
burns.
- If work on the fuel system or the electrical
system is necessary :
- Always disconnect the battery.
- Never smoke or work near heaters or open
flames . Fluids in the engine compartment
could start a fire.
- Keep an approved fire extinguisher imme­
diately available.
- To avoid electrical shock and personal injury
while the engine is running or being started, never touch:
- Ignition cables
- Other components of the high voltage
electronic ignition system.
- If you must perform a check or repair with
the engine running:
- First, fully apply the parking brake , move
selector lever of automatic transmission
to P (Park).

- Always use extreme caution to prevent
clothing, jewelry, or long hair from getting
caught in the radiator fan, V-belts or other
moving parts, or from contacting hot
parts . Tie back hair before starting, and do
not wear clothing that will hang or droop
into the engine.
- Minimize exposure to emission and chemi­
cal hazards

The engine oil used must conform to exact sp eci­
f ications.

time for an oi l chang e. We recommend that you
hav e your oil chang ed by an authori zed A udi Serv ­
ic e Advi sor .
If you have to top off the oil between oil changes,
use the Audi oil qua lity standa rd specified in the
