D Battery
The .warn ing/ indicator light i llum inates
when you switch on the ignition and must go
out after the eng ine has started.
• Alternator fault : Battery is not being
charged.
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, there is a malfunction in the generator or vehicle electrical system .
Drive to your authori zed A udi dealer or quali­
fied wor kshop immed iate ly . Because the ve hi­
cle battery is discharging, turn off all unnec ­
essary e lectrical equipment such as the radio.
Seek professiona l assistance if the battery
charge level is too low.

T he odometer @shows the total number of
k il ometers o r miles that have been dr iven on
the vehicle.
The trip odometer @ shows the d istance driv­
en since it was last reset . It can be used to
measure short distances. The last d igit shows
distances of 100 meters or 1/10 of a mi le.
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by pressing the reset button I

Malfunction message
If there is a malfunct ion somewhere in the in­
strument cluster,
DEF w ill appear in the trip
odometer and w ill stay on . Contact your au­

The remote control must be reset if the vehi­
cle does not unlock .

This feature prevents the vehicle from being
accidentally left unlocked over a long period

-In order to make sure the locking func­
tion is working, you should always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked.
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherwise you may unin­
tentiona lly lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the un lock button

The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key.

The vehicle can be locked and unlocked only at
the front doors. The remote control key can­
not be more than 1.5 m away from the door
handle .
It makes no difference whether the
master key is in you r jacket pocket or in your
brief case.
If you grip the door handle wh ile locking, this
can adversely affect the locking function .
It is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period directly after closing it. This al­
lows you to ensure that the doo rs are properly
locked .

electronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine

chi ld cou ld craw l into the car through the
luggage compartment and pu ll the lid
shut, becoming trapped a nd unable to
get out. To reduce the risk of personal i n­
jury, never let children play in or a round
your veh icle. Always keep the rea r lid as
well as the vehi cle doors closed when not
in use.
- A lways ensure that no one is wi thin
range of the re ar lid when it is moving, in
particular close to the hinges - fingers or
hands can be pinched .

Headlight range control system
The headlight range adjusts automatically
when there is a change in veh icle load and
during braking and accelerating so that the
headlights do not cause glare for oncoming
traffic.
Adaptive light*
The adaptive light only functions when the
switch is in the AUTO position (Automatic
headlights). When switched on, adapt ive light
adapts to curves in the road depending on the
vehicle speed and the steering angle. This pro­
vides better lighting through the curve . The
system operates at speeds between approxi ­
mately 6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph
(110 km/h) .
_&. WARNING
- Daytime running lights and automatic
headlights* are only intended to assist
the driver. They do not relieve the driver
of his responsibility to check the head­
lights and to turn them on manually ac­
cording to the current light and visibility
conditions. For example, fog cannot be
detected by the light sensors*. So always
sw itch on the headlights
io under these
weather conditions and when driving in
the dark.
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the headlights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the back.
- Please obey all laws when using the
lighting systems described here.

the driver. The drive r is still responsib le for
controll ing the headlights and switc hing
the high beams on and
off manually de­
pending on t raff ic, lighting and visib ility
conditions. Fa ilu re to intervene manually
may lea d to risk of acc ident.
It may be nec ­
essary to operate the high beams manual ­
l y in the following situations, e.g.:
- For adverse weathe r condit ions such as
fog, heavy rain, blowing snow or spraying water.
- On roads where oncoming traff ic may be
partially obscured such as expressways .
- If there are individua ls on the road with
no lighting or poo r light ing, such as cy­
clists.
- In tight curves and on steep slopes.
- In poorly lit are as.
- W ith st rong refle cto rs such as signs.
- If t he area of the winds hield near the
sensor is fogged ov er, dirty, icy o r cov­
ered wi th a stic ker.

be a brief period of increased noise be­
cause the oil pressure must first build up

norma l and not a cause for concern .

Steering lock
The steering locks when you turn the engine

Emergenc y Off functi on
If necessary in an emergency, the engine can
be sw itched off while the vehicle is st ill mov­
ing. Press the

tw ice in quick succession or ho ld it in for lon­
ger than two seconds .
_& WARNING
-Never t urn off the engine before the ve­
h icle has come to a complete stop . The
full function of the brake booster and the power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary . Because you cannot steer and
brake as you usually would, this could
lead to crashes and serious injur ies .
- For safety reasons, you should always
park your vehicle with the se lector lever
in P. Otherwise, the ve hicl e co uld inad­
vertent ly roll away.
- The rad iator fan can continue to run for
up to 10 min utes even after you have
t urned off the eng ine and removed the
ignition key . The radiator fan can also
turn on again if the engine coolant heats

up because of intense sunlight or heat
bui ld-up in the engine compartment.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the
engine could be started or electrical
equipment such as the power windows
could be operated . This can lead to seri­
ous injury.

If the engine has been under heavy load
for an extended period, heat bu ilds up in
the eng ine compartment after the engi ne
i s sw itched off - there is a r isk of damag ing
the engine . A llow the engine to run at idle
for about two minutes before switching it

Starting the engine after a malfunction

If the remote control key battery is exhausted
or if radio interference or a system malfunc­
tion o ccurs, extra steps may be necessary in
order to start the engine .
