failed. The message indicates the location of
the bulb .

Vehicle lights: malfunction
If the message appea rs, there is a malfunc­
tion in the headlights or light switch .
Drive to yo ur authorized Aud i dea ler immedi ­
ately to have t he malfunction corrected.

plode while they a re being changed caus­
ing ser ious p erso na l in ju ry.
- Work w it h due care when handling the
hig h-voltage section of gas discha rge (
x enon) lights . Failure to do so cou ld re­
sult in death o r serious injury .

1\1 Headlight range control: defective!
If the symbol illuminates, the headlig ht ran ge
control is no lo nger work ing pro per ly . Have
the system checked and repaired at yo ur A udi
dealer.
§0 Adaptive Light
Applies to vehicles: with Adaptive light
FJl Audi adaptive light: system fault
If the indicator light turns on and this mes­
sage appears, there is a malfunct ion in the
adaptive light system. The headlights still
funct ion .
Go to an authorized dealersh ip to have the
headlights o r the co ntrol un it for the Adaptive
Light repa ired.
@:> Light/rain sensor
£1 Automatic headlights /automatic wipers :
system fault
If the indicator light turns on and this mes­
sage appears , the light/ rain senso r is not
f unct ion ing corr ect ly .
For sa fety reasons the low beams are t urned
o n permanently wit h the sw itch in
AUTO .
However, you can continue to turn the lights
on and off us ing the light switch . Yo u can st ill
co ntrol all func tions that a re independent of
t h e ra in sensor th roug h the w indshi eld wipe r
l ever .
Co ntact your aut horized Aud i dea ler as soon
as possible to have the problem co rrec ted .

I--: Sport differential
IIJ Sport differential: system fault
There is a malfunction with the sport differen­
tial.
Drive to your authorized Audi dea ler immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected.
IIJ Sport differential: overheating
The transmission temperature has increased
sign ificantly due to the sporty dr iving manner .
D rive in a less sporty manner until the tem­
perature returns to the normal range and the
indicato r light switches of .
.&_ WARNING
-
Contact your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop if the sport different ial
is faulty or ma lfunctioning. The repa ir
must be performed by trained personnel
using the correct oil in order to ensure
safety.
¢ Q Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal.
Whenever you use the left Nor the right a
turn signal, the indicator light blinks. When
you use the emergency flashers, both indica­
tor lights flash .
If one of the turn signal light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink tw ice as fast as nor­
mal. Carefully drive to your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the malfunct ion
corrected. The indicator light does not indi­
cate a malfunction if a turn signa l on the trail­
er or on the vehicle fails in trailer towing
mode.

Working on the battery
Be especially careful when working on or near the battery .
The battery is located in the luggage compart­
ment under the floor. Before you check any­
thing in the luggage compartment,

i ng on the vehicle battery or the veh icle elec ­
tr ical system to prevent injury .

A WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on
the electrical system, there is the r isk of
injury, acc ident and even fire. Read and
heed the following WARNINGS:
- Always wear eye p rotection . Do not let
battery acid or any lead particles get on
your sk in or cloth ing . Sh ield your eyes .
E xplosive gases can cause blindness or
other injury .
- Battery acid contains sulfuric acid . Sulfu­
ric acid can cause blindness and severe
burns .

Do not tilt the battery because acid
could leak out of the ventilation open­
i ngs .
- If you get battery acid in your eyes or
on your skin, immediately rinse with
cold water for several minutes and get
med ical attent ion .
- If you should ingest any battery acid,
seek medical attention immediately .
- Do not expose the battery to an open
f lame, e lectr ic sparks or an open light.
- Do not smoke.
- Do not interchange the positive and neg-
ative cables.
- When working on the battery, be su re
not to short-circuit the termina ls with
too ls or other metal objects. This would
cause the battery to heat up very quickly,
which could lead to damage or explosion and personal injury .
- When a battery is charged, it produces
hydrogen gas which is explos ive and
could cause personal in ju ry .
- Always keep the battery well out of the reach of children .
- Before work is done on the electrical sys­
tem, disconnect the negat ive ground ca­
ble.
- Before performing any work on the e lec ­
trical system, switch off the eng ine and
ignit ion as well as any electrical equip­
ment. The negative cable on the battery
m ust be disconnected. If yo u are just go­
ing to replace a light bulb, then it is
enough to switch off the lights .
- Before disconnec ting the battery, switch
off the anti -theft alarm system! Other ­
wise you wi ll set off the alarm.
- When disconnecting the battery, f irst
disconnect the negative cab le and then
the positive cab le .
- Before reconnecting the battery, ma ke
sure all e lectrica l consumers are switch-
ed off . Reconnect the pos it ive cable first
and then the negative cable . Never inter­
change the cables - this could start a fire!

Replacing fuses
Fuses that have blown will have metal strips
that have burned through.

-Do not repair fuses and never replace a
b lown fuse with one that has a higher amp
rat ing. Th is can cause damage to the elec­
tr ica l system and a fire.
