BRAKE /(0) Brake system
The light illuminates when the ignition is
switched on.
It goes ou t after the engine has
been started. This indicates that the brake
warning light is functioning properly.
If the brake warning light does not light up
when the engine is cranking, there may be a
malfunction in the electrical system. In this
case , contact your Audi dealer.
If the brake system warning/ind icator light
turns on, there is a brake system mal function.
• (USA models ). (Canada models ) Stop
vehicle and check brake fluid level
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, p roceed as follows:
~ Pull off the road.
~ Stop the vehicle.
~ Turnoff the engine .
~ Check the brake fluid level q page 231 .
~ Contact your nearest authorized repa ir fa-
c ili ty if necessary.

function corrected. If you cannot release the parking brake, seek professional assistance.
- If the ind icator light and the message ap ­
pear
while driving , the emergency brak ing
function may not be available. It may not be possible to set the park ing b rake or release
it once it has been set . Seek profess ional as­
sistance .
(USA models): If the warn ing light . and the

qualified workshop to have all brake pads in­
spected

A WARNING
-Always observe the warn ings in

and checking the brake fluid.
- Driving with low brake fluid is a safety
ha zard . Stop the car and get professional
assistance.
- If the. (USA models). (Canada
models) brake system indicat or light
turns on together with the ABS and ESC
indicator lights, the ABS/ESC regulating
function may have failed. Functions that
stabilize the vehicle are no longer avai la­
ble. This could cause the vehicle to
swerve and increase the risk of slid ing .
Drive carefully to the nearest authorized
Aud i dealer or other qualified workshop
and have the malfunction corrected. ..,.

- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in mind
that road surfaces, especially bridges
and overpasses, could be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature
above 41 °F

-Always remember, even if the "snow­
flake" symbol (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isplay, black ice could be on
the road.
- Always reduce your speed and drive with special care in cold weather cond itions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.
(D Tips
-If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are
dr iving at a very low speed, the tempera­
ture shown in the d isplay m ight be
slightly higher than the actual outside
temperature . Thi s is caused by the heat
being radiated from the engine.
- Yo u can select the units used for temper­
ature, speed and other measurements in
the MMI.

In the MMI, you ca n specify which information

The speed display and some of the red indica­ tor lights cannot be hidden in the MMI.
Display brightness
You can ad just the display brightness in t he
MMI. The display brightness decreases auto­
mat ica lly as the amount of light decreases.
The basic leve l of brightness is adjusted with
the ins trumen t illum ina tion ¢
page 46 .

To prevent sc ratches on t he g lass covering
the Head-up Disp lay, do not place any ob­
jects in the proj ection opening.

- Sung lasses w ith polar izat ion fi lters an d
unfavorable lighting condit ions can af­
fect the display.

Head-up Display funct io n.

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL )
The Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp ( MIL ) ¢'4 in
the instr ument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system .
T he wa rni ng/indicator light ill uminates when
the ignit io n is switched on and goes out after
the engine sta rts and the id le has stab ilized.
This indicates that the MIL is working proper­
ly .
If the light does not go out afte r th e en gine
is started, or illuminates while you are dr iv­
ing, a mal function may exist in the engine sys ­
tem.
If the lig ht illum inates, the catalyt ic con­
verter could be damaged .
Contin ue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing s ustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the cond ition corrected.
Contact your aut horized Audi dea ler.
If the light illuminates, the e lectronic speed
limiter may also be malfunct ioning . For more
information

limiter.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should on ly be used in an emer­
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not car ry
it on your key ring .

Personal comfort settings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom ­
mended that each person always uses "t heir
own" master key . When the ignition is switch­
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, persona l

tems are stored and ass igned to the remote
maste r key.

when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or w hen you switch t he ignition on.

pe rsons could endanger yo u or resul t in
theft or d amage t he vehi cle.

can be temporar ily disrupted by inte rfer­

Introduction
App lies to vehicles: with Audi adaptive cruise co ntrol
The adaptive cruise control system assists the
driver by regu lat ing vehicle speed and helping
to maintain a set distance to the vehicle
ahead, within the limits of the system.
If the
system detects a moving vehicle up ahead,
adaptive cruise control can brake and then ac­
celerate your vehicle. This helps to make driv­
ing more comfortable both on long highway
stretches and in stop-and-go traffic.
The braking guard system can warn you about
an impending collision and initiate braking
maneuvers

Adaptive cruise control and braking guard
have technical limitations that you must
know, so please read this section carefully, un­
derstand how the system works and use them
properly at all times.

jects or obstructed w ith dirt, insects, snow or
i ce that will interfere with the adaptive cruise
control system and braking guard. For infor­
mation on cleaning, refer to
c:::> page 209. The same applies for any modifications made in
the front area.
T he function of the adaptive cru ise contro l
system and braking guard is limited under
some cond itions:
- Objects can only be de tected when they are
w ith in sensor range
c:::> page 86, fig. 88 .
-The system has a limited ability to detect
objects that are a short d istance ahead, off
to the side of your vehi cle or mov ing into
your lane.
- Some kinds of veh icles are hard to detect;
for examp le motorcycles, veh icles with high
ground clearance or overhanging loads may
be detected when it is too late or they may
not be detected at all.

A lways pay attention to traffic when adap ­
tive cruise contro l is switched on and brak­
ing g uard is active. As the driver, you are
still respons ible for starting and for main­
taining speed and distance to other ob­
jects. Braking guard is used to assist you .
The dr iver must a lways take action to avo id
a collis ion . The driver is a lways respons ible
fo r braking a t the co rrec t time.
- Imp roper use of adaptive cru ise control
can cause collisions, other acc idents and
serious pe rsonal in jury.
- Never let the comfort and convenience
that adaptive cruise control and braking gua rd offer d istract you from the need to
be alert to traffic condit ions and the
need to rema in in fu ll control of your ve­
h icle at a ll times,
- Always remember that the adaptive
cruise control and braking guard have
limits -they will not s low the vehicle
down or maintain the set distance when
you drive towards an obstacle or some­
thing on or near the road that is not
mov ing, such as vehicles stopped in a
traffic jam, a stalled o r disabled vehicle.
