The sho rt-term memo ry co llects d riving i nfo r­
mat ion from the time the ignition is switched
on un til it is switched off . If yo u con tinue dr iv­
i ng wi thin two hou rs a fter switching the igni­
tion off, the new val ues are i ncl uded when cal­
culating the current trip informa tion .
Unlike the short-term memory , the long-term
memory is no t erased au toma tically. You can
se lec t t he time period fo r eval uat ing trip in­
formation yo urself.

tr ip info rmat ion from the tempor ary memory
in t he line

Fuel consumption
The cu rrent fuel consumpt ion can be dis­
p layed using a bar
c::> fig. 8 . The average con­
sumpt ion (mpg) stored in the short-term
memory is a lso di splayed. Whe n the bar tur ns
g reen, you r vehicle s aves fuel by one of the
followi ng fun ctions:
- Recuperation : When the vehicle is coasting
o r dr iv ing downh ill, ele ctrical energy ca n b e
store d in t he b atte ry. The bar w ill move to ­
ward 0.
-Cylinder on demand System* : when the de­
ma nd for power is low a nd other conditions
are met, the en gine automa tica lly deac ti­
vates four cylinde rs . T he driver and passen­
gers w ill not eve n notice th is . T he message
4 cylinder mode appears under the bar . T he
cylinders switch on again when more power
is needed .

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle

The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should on ly be used in an emer­
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not car ry
it on your key ring .

Personal comfort settings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom ­
mended that each person always uses "t heir
own" master key . When the ignition is switch­
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, persona l

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch, p lease note the followi ng:
- You cannot open the doo rs or the rear lid
from the
ou tside (inc reased security, for ex­
ample when you are s topped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switches i l-
lum inate when all the doors are closed and
locked .
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pull ing on the door
handle .
- Rear doors : pull the door hand le
once to re­
lease the lock . Pull t he handle
again to open
the door .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activa t­
ed, the doors automatically unlock .

.. To close the sunroof completely, press the
switch forward briefly to the second level

.. To select an intermediate position, press/
pull the switch forward/back to the first lev­
el until the desired position is reached.
The sun shade can be opened and closed by
hand when the sunroof is closed. The solar
protection opens automatically when the sun­
roof opens.
You can still close or open the sunroof for up
to ten minutes after you have switched the ig­
n ition off. The switch is deactivated once the
driver's or front passenger's door is opened.
A WARNING
Pay careful attention when closing the
sliding/tilting sunroof -otherwise serious
injury could result! A lways take the key
w ith you when leaving the vehicle .

Always close your sliding/tilting sunroof
when leaving your vehicle. Sudden rain can
cause damage to the interior equipment of
your veh icle, part icu larly the electro nic
equ ipment.

The sliding/tilt ing s unroof will only open
at temperatures above -4°F (-20°C) .
Emergency closing of the sliding/tilting
sunroof
If the sunroof detects an object in its path
when it is closing, it will open again automati­
cally. In this case, you can close the roof with
the power emergency closing function .
.. Within five seconds after the sunroof opens
automatically, pull the switch until the roof
closes .

Garage door opener
(Homelink)
Description

You can activate various systems such as ga­
rage doors, security systems and home light­
ing from inside your vehicle using the garage
door opener (Homelink). There are three but­
tons for this in the vehicle headliner that can
be in used in place of up to three hand-held
transmitters .
To operate systems using the garage door
opener, the three buttons in the roof headlin­
er must be programmed first .
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the
immediate vicin ity of the equipment when
using or p rogramming the garage door
opener. People can be injured and objects
can be damaged if they are caught in the
eq uipment.

vehicle movement, hot liquid could spill,

can also cause an accident and personal
injury.
- Use only soft cups in the cupholder . Hard
cups and glasses can cause in jury in an
acc ident.
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an
ashtray- risk of f ire.

On ly drink containers wi th lids should be
carried in the cupho lder. Liquid could spill
out and damage your vehicle's e lectronic
equ ipment or sta in the upholstery, etc.
Cooled glove compartment
Applies to vehicles: with cooled g love compartment
The cooled glove compartment only functions
when the A/C system is switched on .

The glove compartment cooling mode only
funct ions when the vehicle A/C system is
switched on . If the heating is sw itched on,
switching the g love compa rtment coo lin g
mode off is recommended.
WARNING
A lways leave the lid on the glove compar t­
ment cover closed while driving to reduce
the r isk of injury.

There are a variety of storage compartments
and fasteners in various places in the vehicle.
- Storage compartments in the doors

- Compartments* on the back of the front seat backrests
- Garment hooks on the sides of the pillars in
the rear of the vehicle and in the rear grab handles
- Compartment in the rear center armrest
- Two mounting hooks* unde r the base of the
rear window inside the luggage compart­
ment. You can attach light objects to these
hooks. The mounting hooks are spring-load ­
ed and will return to their normal position
when not in use.
A WARNING
-
- Always remove objects from the instru­
ment panel. Any items not stored could
sl ide around inside the vehicle while driv­
ing or when accelerating or when apply­
ing the brakes or when driving a round a
corner.
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter console or other storage locations cannot fa ll out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Always keep the lid of the compartment
for (sun)glasses* closed while driving to
reduce the risk of injury dur ing a sudden
braking maneuver or in the event of an
accident.
-Any articles of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's v iew. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang
any clothing w ith ha rd, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen ­
gers inside the vehicle.
- To reduce the risk o f persona l injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving.
- Read and fo llow all WARN INGS
¢ page 166, Important safety instruc­
tions on the side airbag system.

- Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vision.
- The coat hooks must only be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause pe rsonal injury in a crash .
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging
cloth ing on the coat hoo ks as th is can in­
terfere with prope r deployment of the
side curta in a irbags in an acc ident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal in­
jury in a sudden stop.
- For strength-re lated reasons, the mount­
ing hooks can only be used to secure ob­
jects weigh ing up to 10 lb. (5 kg). Heavi­
er objec ts will not be adequately sec ured
- there is a risk of injury.

Objects located on the rear shelf that rub
against the rea r window could damage the
hea ting wires for the rear window defog­
ger.
Roof rack

luggage rack.

If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the
roof, you must observe the follow ing:
- Only use roof racks approved for yo ur vehi­
cle. These approved roof racks are the basis
for a complete roof rack system . Additional
attachments or carrier systems are needed
to transport luggage and sports equipment.
We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi original accessories program.
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it is only moun ted on the designated locations
on the
roof <=> fig. 64.
- We recommend that you keep the installa­
tion instructions for your roof rack system
together with your Owner 's literature in the
vehicle .
When sh ould the roo f ra ck be remo ved ?
-Before going through an automatic car wash
(it is best to ask the car wash operator for
advice).
- When not in use, to reduce fuel consump­ tion, wind no ise and to guard against theft .
A WARNING
-Use of an unapproved roof rack or incor­
rect mount ing of an approved roof rack
can cause the roof rack or the items at­
tached to it to fa ll off the roof onto the
road .
- Objects fall ing from the roof of a vehicle
can cause a crash and persona l injury.
- Only mount the roof rack on the desig­
nated locations o n the roof <=>
fig. 64.
-The roof rack system must be installed
exactly according to the instructions pro­
vided.
- When driving w ith a roof rack system,
changes to the center of g ravity and wind
resistance ca n change the veh icle han­
dling and lead to a collision . A lways
adapt yo ur driving and you r speed to the
c u rrent conditions.
@ Note
- Your vehi cle warranty does not cover any
damages to the veh icle caused by using roof
racks or mounting structures not
approved by Audi for your vehicle . The
same app lies to damage resulting from
incorrect roof rack installation.
- Always check the roof rack mountings
and hardware before each trip and dur­
ing a trip to make sure everyth ing is se­
curely tightened . If necessary, ret ighten
the mountings and check the entire sys­
tem from time to time .
- After mount ing a roof rack system, or
when you t ransport objects on the roof
of your vehicle, the heig ht of the veh icle
is natu rally increased. Be careful when
dr iving under low bridges or in par king
garages for example . This cou ld cause
damage to the load and eve n the vehicle
itself .
- Make sure the open rear lid and the sun­
roof* do not come into contact with the
roof rack.
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure
anything on the roof rack is secur ely tied
down.

.. Always attach items to the roof rack s ecurely
before you drive off.
The maximum permissible roof weight is
2 20 lb (100 kg ). The roof weight is the total
of the weight of the roof rack, the attach­
ments and the cargo you are carrying. You
must also not exceed the max imum load
weight for the roof rack you a re using.
When using a roof rack system which has a
lower load carrying capacity, you must not use
up the total maximum permissible load carry­
ing capacity specified above . Instead, you
shou ld load the roof rack system only to the
maximum capacity specified by the manufac-
tu rer of the roof rack system. ..,.

Weak, damaged or improper straps used
to secure items to the roof rack can fail
during hard braking or in a collision and
cause serious personal injury .
- Make sure the roof rack is installed exact ­

prevent items from shift ing or fly ing for­

- Items on the roof rack must always be
securely mounted .
- The use of a roof rack can negatively af­
fect the way a vehicle handles . Cargo

will have a greater negative inf luence on
the vehicle 's aerodynamics, center of
gravity and overall handling . Always
drive slowly, avoid sudden braking and
maneuvers when transporting cargo on
the roof of your vehicle.
- Never exceed the maximum permissible
load carrying capacity of the roof of your
vehicle, the perm issible axle weights and
the permiss ible total weight of your vehi­
cle

As a result of the increased wind resist­
ance created by a roof rack, your veh icle is
using fuel unnecessarily. So remove the
roof rack after using it.
