• Insert the key in the inside slot and turn it
all the way to the right (right doo r) or left
(left door).
Once the door has been closed, it can no lon ­
ger be opened from the outside . The door can
be opened from the ins ide by pu lling the door
h andle. If the c hild safety lock in a rear door is
activa ted, you m ust first pull the door hand le
on the inside. Then you can open the door
from the outside.

A WARNING
-After closing the rear lid, always pu ll up
on it to make sure that it is p roperly
closed. Otherwise it co uld open suddenly
when the vehicle is moving .
- To help prevent poisono us exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehi cle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed whi le driv ­
ing . Never transport objects larger than
those which fit complete ly into the lug ­
gage area, because then the rear lid can­ not be fu lly closed.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended es­ pecially with the rear lid left open. A
child cou ld crawl into the car through the
luggage compartment and pul l the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unable to
get o ut. To reduce the risk of pe rsonal in­
jury, never let ch ildren play in or around
your veh icle. Always keep the rear lid as
well as the vehicle doors closed when not in use.

When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid can

Requirements : You must be carrying your ve­
hicle key with you. You must be standing at
the center behind the luggage compartment
lid. The distance to the rear of the vehicle
should be approximately 8 inches (20 cm).
The ignition must be sw itched off . Make sure
you have firm footing.

Once the system recognizes the movement,
the luggage compartment lid will open.
The luggage compartment l id will only open if
you make the movement as described . This
p revents the luggage compartment lid from
opening due to s imilar movements such as
when you walk between the rear o f the vehicle
and your garage door.
General information
In some situations, the function is lim ited or
temporarily unavailab le. This may happen if: -
the luggage compartment lid was just
closed.
-you park close to a hedge and the branches
move back and forth under the vehicle for a
long per iod of time.
-y ou clean your vehicle, for example with a
pressure washer or in a car wash.
- there is heavy rain.
- the bumper is very dirty, fo r example after
driving on salted roads.
- there is interference to the radio signal from
the vehicle key, such as from cell phones or
remote controls.

Child safety lock for
the rear doors
The power child safety lock locks the rear win­
dows and prevent the rear doors from being
opened from the inside .

• To activate the child safety lock for the left/
right rear door, press the left/right button

• To deactivate the child safety lock for the

The following features are switched off:
- The interior door handles in the rear doors,

In order to activate the ch ild safety lock on
the left and the right side , press the two safe­
ty buttons

a two-po sition function :
Opening the windows
• Press the switch to the first stop and hold it
until the window reaches the desired posi­
tion.
• Press the switch briefly to the
second stop
to automatically open the window.
Closing the windows
• Pull the switch to the first stop and hold it
until the window reaches the desired posi­
tion.
• Pull the switch briefly to the
second stop to
automatically close the window.

& WARNING
-When you leave your vehicle -even if on ­
ly briefly -always take the ignition key
with you . This applies particularly when
children remain in the vehicle. Otherwise
the children could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equipment (e .g . power
windows). The power windows are func­
tional until the driver's door or passeng­
er's door has been opened.
- Be careful when clos ing the w indows .
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- When locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied since the
windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency.
(D Tips
After the ignition has been switched off,
the windows can still be opened or closed
for about 10 minu tes. The power windows
are not switched off until the driver's door
or passenger's door has been opened.

What to do after a malfunction
The one-touch open and close function must
be reactivated if the battery has been discon­
nected .
,. Pull and hold the power window switch until
the window is fully closed .
,. Release the switch and then pull it again for
at least one second.
Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage compartment from unauthorized ac­ cess.

The sun shade can be opened and closed by
hand when the sunroof is closed. The solar
protection opens automatically when the sun­
roof opens.
You can still close or open the sunroof for up
to ten minutes after you have switched the ig­
n ition off. The switch is deactivated once the
driver's or front passenger's door is opened.
A WARNING
Pay careful attention when closing the
sliding/tilting sunroof -otherwise serious
injury could result! A lways take the key
w ith you when leaving the vehicle .

Always close your sliding/tilting sunroof
when leaving your vehicle. Sudden rain can
cause damage to the interior equipment of
your veh icle, part icu larly the electro nic
equ ipment.

The sliding/tilt ing s unroof will only open
at temperatures above -4°F (-20°C) .
Emergency closing of the sliding/tilting
sunroof
If the sunroof detects an object in its path
when it is closing, it will open again automati­
cally. In this case, you can close the roof with
the power emergency closing function .
.. Within five seconds after the sunroof opens
automatically, pull the switch until the roof
closes .

Garage door opener

You can activate various systems such as ga­
rage doors, security systems and home light­
ing from inside your vehicle using the garage
door opener (Homelink). There are three but­
tons for this in the vehicle headliner that can
be in used in place of up to three hand-held
transmitters .
To operate systems using the garage door
opener, the three buttons in the roof headlin­
er must be programmed first .
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the
immediate vicin ity of the equipment when
using or p rogramming the garage door
opener. People can be injured and objects
can be damaged if they are caught in the
eq uipment.

The instrument illumination (for dials and
needles) lights on when the ign it ion is
sw itched on and the vehicle lig hts are
turned off. As the daylight fades, the ill u­
m ination of the dials likewise dims auto­
mat ically and w ill go out comp lete ly when
the o utside lig ht is ve ry low. This fea ture is
meant to remi nd you t o swit ch on the
headl igh ts when o utside light condi tions
become poor.

protect ion. The sun s hade can only be ex­
tended/retracted again after a brief wait­
ing period.
- The rear window sun shade only func­
tions when the vehicle i nterior is warmer
than 14°F ( -10°() .

-To help prevent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint
thinner, or other solvents on or near the
wiper blades.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper
arms or other components, do not at­
tempt to move the wipers by hand.
@ Tips
- Commercial hot waxes applied by auto­
matic car washes affect the cleanability
of the windshield .
- You can also use the service position, for
example, if you want to protect the
windshield from icing by using a cover .
- You cannot activate the service position
when the hood is open.
Mirrors

Turn the knob to the desired position :
Q/P -In this position, you can adjust the
driver's and front passenger's exterior mirrors
by turning the knob in the desired direction .
4ill-The mirrors are heated depending on the
outside temperature .
8 -The exterior mirrors fold in. In the MMI,
you can select if the mirrors fold in automati­
cally when you lock the vehicle ¢
page 34.
Tilt function for the passenger's mirror
To help you see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror tilts slightly.
The knob must be in the P position
for this to happen.
You can adjust the tilted mirror surface by
turning the knob in the desired direction.
When you move out of reverse and into anoth­
er gear, the new mirror posit ion is stored and
assigned to the key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its original position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph (15
km/h) or switch the ignition
off.
.&_ WARNING

-Curved (i.e. convex) mirror surfaces in-
crease your field of view. Remember that
vehicles or other objects will appear
smaller and farther away than when seen in a flat mirror. If you use this mirror to
estimate distances of following vehicles
when changing lanes, you could estimate
incorrectly and cause an accident.
(D Note
-If the mirror housing is moved uninten­
tionally (for example, while parking your
vehicle), then you must first fold the mir­
ror electrically. Do not readjust the mir­
ror housing manually. You could damage
the motor which controls the mirror.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic
car wash, you must fold the exterior mir­
rors in to reduce the risk of damage to
the mirrors. Never fold power folding ex­
terior mirrors* by hand . Only fold them
in and out using the power controls.

-If there is a malfunction in the electrical
system, you can still adjust the exterior
mirrors by pressing the edge of the mir­
ror.
