Indicator lights
Description
The indicator lights in the instrument cluster
blink or turn on. They indicate functions or mal­
functions¢ &.
Messages may appear with some indicator lights .
A warning signal will sound at the same time.
The messages disappear again after a short time.
To display a message again, press the
I SE TI but­
ton ¢
page 11. If several malfunctions occur,
each of the indicator/warning lamps will be dis­
p layed in succession for about two seconds at a
time.
Some indicators lights in the display can turn on
in several colors.
8_ WARNING
- Failure to heed warning lights and other im­
portant vehicle information may resu lt in
serious personal injury or vehicle damage.
- Whenever sta lled or stopped for repa ir,
move the vehicle a safe distance off the
road, stop the engine, and turn on the emer­
gency flasher ¢

-The engine compartment of any motor vehi­
cle is a potentially hazardous area. Before
you check anything in the engine compart­
ment, stop the engine and let it cool down.

function of that system when you switch the igni­
tion on . These systems are marked with a./ in

-Always keep in mind that afte r several brake
applications, you will need greater pressure on the brake pedal to stop your vehicle. Do
not rely on strained brakes to respond with
maximum stopping power in cri tical situa ­
t ions . You must allow for increased bra king
distan ces. The extr a dis tance used up by
fa ding b rakes c ould lead to an acciden t.

The warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
tromechanical parking brak e.
If the i nd icator lig ht . (USA models)/ . (Cana­
da models) turns on , the parking b rake was set .
The warning/indicator light will go o ut when the
parking brake is re leased.
• (USA models) ;a (Canada model s) Cau­
tion: Vehicle parked too steep
If th e i nd ic ator lig ht blinks and t he message ap ­
pea rs, there is not enoug h bra king power to keep
the vehicle from roll ing. The b rakes have over­
heate d. The veh icle cou ld roll away even on a
sma ll incline .

al and press t he button(®) or star t driving wi th
s tartin g assist at the same t ime

Please release parking brake
To release the parking brake manually, press the
brake peda l and press the button(®) at the same
time . The par king brake on ly releases automat i­
cally if the dr iver's safety be lt is fastened.

sage appears, the re is a par king b rake malf unc­
tion . Drive to your authorized A ud i dealer or
qualified wor kshop immediately to have t he mal­
fu nction corrected .

This warning/indicator light reminds you to put
on your safety belt.
The . war ning/ indicator light illum inates when
the ignit io n is switched on to remind the dr iver
and (on USA models only) any front passenger to
put on the safety be lt. Addit ionally, an acoust ic
warning (gong) w ill also sound.

• Alternator fault : Battery is not being charg­
ed
If the indicator light turns on and the message
appears , there is a ma lfunct io n in the generator
o r vehicle e lectr ica l system .
D rive to y our authori zed A udi dealer or quali fied
workshop immediately. Because the vehicle bat ­
te ry is discharging, tur n off a ll unnecessary elec­
trical e quipme nt such as th e r adio . Seek profes­
s iona l assistance if the battery cha rg e l eve l is too
l ow .
(•) Low battery: Battery will be charged while
driving
If the indicato r light turns on and the message
appears, there may be limited sta rting ab ility.
If this message t urns off afte r a little while, the
battery charged enough while dr iv ing .
I f the mess age does not turn off, have yo ur au­
thorized Audi dea le r or qualified wor kshop cor ­
r ect the malfunction .

General information
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can only
provide maximum protection if the front seats are correctly adjusted .
There are various ways of adjusting the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the dr iver and the front passenger . Adjust
your seat properly so that :
- you can easily and quickly reach all the switches
and controls in the instrument panel
- your body is properly supported thus reducing
physical stress and fatigue
- the safety belts and a irbag system can offer
maximum protection

In the following sections, you will see exactly
how you can best adjust your seats.
There are special regulat ions and instructions for
installing a child safety seat on the front pas­
senger's seat . Always fo llow the information re­
garding child safety provided in¢
page 151 ,
Child safety.
_&. WARNING
Refer to¢ page 112, Driving safety for im­
portant information, tips, suggestions and
warnings that you should read and follow for
your own safety and the safety of your pas­
senge rs.
_&. WARNING
Incorrect seating position of the driver and all
other passengers can resu lt in serious person­
al injury.
- Always keep your feet on the floor when the
vehicle is in motion -neve r put your feet on
top of the instr ument pane l, out of the win ­
dow or on top of the seat cushion. This ap­
plies espec ially to the passengers . If your
seat ing position is incorrect, you increase
the risk of injury in the case of sudden brak­ ing or an accident. If the airbag inflates and

the seating position is incorrect, this cou ld
result in personal injury or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and front
passenger to keep a distance of at least
10 inches (25 cm) between themselves and
the steering wheel and/or instrument panel.
If you're sitting any closer than this, the air­
bag system cannot protect you properly . In
addition, the front seats and head restraints
must be adjusted to your body height so
that they can give you max imum protect ion.
- Always try to keep as much distance as pos­ sible between yourself and the steer ing
wheel or instrument pane l.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front passeng­
er 's seat while the vehicle is moving. Your
seat may move unexpected ly, causing sud­
den loss of vehicle control and persona l in­
jury.
If you adjust your seat while the vehicle
is moving, you are out of position.
Driver's seat '
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving.
We recommend that you adjust the dr iver's seat
in the following manner:
~ Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so that
you can easi ly push the pedals to the floor
while keepi ng your knees slightly bent¢ .&,

~ Adjust the seatback so that when you sit with
your back against the seatback, you can still
grasp the top of the steering wheel.
~ Applies to veh icles with adjustable head re­
straints: Adjust the head restraint so the upper
edge is as even as possible with the top of your
head.
If that is not poss ible, try to adjust the
head restra int so that it is as close to this posi­
tion as possible ¢

Never place any objects in the driver's foot­
well. An object could get into the pedal area
and interfere with pedal funct ion. In case of

sudden braking or an accident, you would not
be able to brake or accelerate.
Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into the rearmost position .
To avoid contac t with the airbag wh ile i t is de­
p loying, do not sit a ny closer to the inst rument
panel than necessary and always wear the three­
point safety belt provided adj usted correctly. We
recommend that you adjust the passenger's seat
in the following manner:
• Bring the back rest up to an (a lmost) upright
position .
Do not ride with the seat reclined .
• Applies to vehicles with adjustable head re ­
stra ints: Adjust the head restra int so the upper
edge is as even as possible with the top of your
head.
If that is not possible, try to adjust the
head restraint so that it is as close to this pos i­
t io n as poss ible

er 's seat while the ve hicle is moving .
If you
do this while the ve hicle is moving , you will
be out of position. Always adjust the d river's
or front passenger's seat when the vehicle is
not moving.
- Be careful when adjusting the seat height. Check to see t hat no one is in the way, or se­
rious injury cou ld result!
- Because t he seats can be e lectrically adjust­
ed w it h the ignition off or w ith the ignition
key removed, never leave children unattend­
ed in the vehicle. Unsupe rv ised use of the
elec tric seat ad justments may cause serious
lnJUr y.
-To r educe the risk of inju ry in the case of
sudden b ra king o r ac cident, front passen­
ge rs must neve r ride i n a moving veh icle
wit h the b ackres t re clined. Safety bel ts an d
the airbag system only offe r maximum pro ­
tect ion when the bac krest is upright and the
safety belts are prope rly positioned on the
body. The more the backrest is reclined, the
greater t he risk of personal injury from an
incorrect seating posit io n and improperly
positioned safety belts.

Center armrest
The center armrest can be adjusted to several
levels .

rear, the head restraints should be pushed down
completely when the rear seats are not occupied .

Memory function
Description
App lies to vehicles: with memory f unction
The memory function allows you to quickly and
eas ily store and recall pe rsonal seating p rofi les
fo r the driver. The memory function is ope rated
th rough the maste r key and the memory bu ttons
in the driver's door .
The driver's seati ng p rofile is stored and assigned
to the master key each t ime the vehicle is locked .
When yo u open the door, the seat profile is auto­
matically recalled. If two people use one vehicle,
i t is recommended that each person always uses
"their own" master key .
Up to 2 seat profi les can be stored in the memory
buttons in the d river's door. Once they are stored,
these seat profiles can be selected at any time .

compartment from the vehicle interior .
You can on ly en large the luggage compartment if
the backrest is not locked.
A WARNING
- The backrest must always be secure ly latc h­
ed so that the safety belt of the center seat­
ing position can work proper ly to help pro­
tect the occupant.
- The backrest must be securely latched in po­
sition so that no items contained in the lug­
gage compartment can slide forward upon
sudden b rak ing .
- Always check whether the latch is fully en­
gaged by pu lli ng the seatback forward .
- Never a llow safety belts to become dam­
aged by be ing caught i n door or seat hard­
ware.
- Torn or frayed safety be lts can tear and
damaged be lt hardwa re can b reak in a crash .
I nspect the belts periodically. Belts show ing
damage to webbing, bindings, buckles, or
retractors must be re placed.
(D Note
- If you move the front seat back when the
rear seat backrest is folded forward, you
cou ld damage the head res traints on the
rear se at.
- Slide the be lt g uide on the o utside safety
belt all t he way up befo re folding the back­
res t back forw ard. Make sure t he se at belt is
no t pin ched or damaged when the rear seat
backrest if folded back. Other objects
should be removed from the rear seat bench
to protect the seatback from damage.
