keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate veh icle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­ supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by ch ildren can result in serious in­
jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherw ise the steering col­
umn lock cou ld suddenly engage -caus­
ing the risk of an accident.
(D Tips
- The operation of the remote contro l key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmit ters in the vici nity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen ­
cy range (e .g . a ce ll phone, radio equip­
ment).

dealer.

Emergency unlocking of the ignition key
In the event of malfunctions in the electrical
system, it may happen that you cannot re­
move the ignition key.
• Remove the mechanical key¢ page 33.
• Lock the veh icle using the mechan ica l key
¢page 37.
• Have the e lectrical system inspected by an
authorized Audi dealership.

On vehicles with automatic t ransmission, the
selector lever must be in the P position , other­
wise the vehicle cannot be locked.

- In orde r to make sure the locking f unc­
tion is work ing, you should a lways keep
your eye on the vehicle to make s ure it is
properly locked.
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherw ise you may unin­
tentionally lock the vehicle , and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try t o sta rt the engine o r open a
door. In case this h ap pens anyhow, push
t he unlock button@.
- Use the pa nic function o nly if yo u are in

Electrical accessories can be connected to the
12-volt socket.

The 12-volt socket can be used for electrical
accessories. The power input must not exceed
120 watts.
There is an additional 12-vo lt socket in the
center console .

The socket and the electrica l accessories
connected to it operate only when the igni­
tion is switched on. Incorrect usage can
lead to serious injuries or burns. For this
reason, children should never be left unat-

tended in the veh icle because this increas­
es the risk of in jury.

- Never connect equipment that generates
electrical current, such as a solar pane l
or battery charger, to the 12-vo lt socket.
Th is could damage the vehicle's electri­
cal system.
- To avoid damaging the socket, only use
plugs that fit properly.

When the engine is off and accessories are
still plugged in and are on, the vehicle bat­
tery can still be drained.
Storage
General overview

- Always remove objects from the instru-
ment panel. Any items not put away
could slide around ins ide the veh icle
while driving or when accele rat ing or
when applying the brakes or when dr iv­
ing arou nd a corne r.
- When you are dr iving make su re that
anyth ing you may have placed in the cen­
ter conso le or other sto rage locations
can not fall out i nto the footwe lls. In c ase
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake, dep ress the clutch o r acce ler ­
ate.
- Any pieces o f clothing that you have
hung up m ust not interfere with the driv­
er's view. The coat hooks are des igned
only for lightweight cloth ing. Never hang
any clothing with hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks .
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especia lly if the a irbag is d eployed -
these objec ts co uld inju re any passen­
gers inside the ve hicl e.

-To r educe the danger of explosion, never
connect or disconnect charger cables
while the charger is operating.
- Fast charg ing a battery is dangerous and
should only be attempted by a compe­
tent technician w ith the proper equip­
ment .
- Battery acid that may spill during charg­
ing should be washed
off with a solution
of warm water and baking soda to neu ­
t ralize the acid .
Never use a fast charger as a booster to
start the engine . This will seriously dam­
age sensitive elect ronic components, such
as control units, relays, radio, etc. , as we ll
as t he battery charger.
Battery replacement
The new battery must have the same specifi­
cations and dimensions as the original equip­
ment battery.

ergy is available once again after you have
changed t he battery, we recommend that you
install ba tteries of the same type and man u­
facture only (the same as t hose installed at
the t ime your vehicle was delivered) . Specifi­
cations a re listed on the battery hous ing . You r
author ized Audi dealer must code the bat tery
in the energy management system to enable
you to use the energy management functions
correctly after rep lac ing the battery .
I f it is not poss ible to use a battery of this
type, the new bat tery mus t have the s ame ca­
pacity, vo ltage ( 12-volts), ampe rage, con­
struction and pl ug sea ling.

When installing the battery, make su re the ig ­
nition and a ll electrical consume rs a re turned
off.

M ake sure the ven tilat ion hose on the side
of the batte ry is connecte d, otherwise
fumes o r batte ry acid can leak out .
