Valet parking
Applies to vehicles: with fold ing and lockable rear seat­
backs
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage comportment from unauthorized ac­
cess.

You can switch the "valet parking function" on
when someone else is parking your vehicle.
When the function is switched on, the vehicle
can be driven, locked and unlocked us ing the
maste r key, but access to the luggage com­
partment is not permitted .
• Take the mechanical key out of the master
key

You can activate various systems s uch as ga­
rage doors, security systems and home light­
ing from inside your vehicle using the garage
door opener (Homelink). There are three but­
tons for this in the vehicle headliner that can
be in used in place of up to three hand-held
transmitters .
To operate systems using the garage door
opener, the three buttons in the roof headlin­
er must be programmed first.
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the
i mmediate vicin ity of the equ ipment when
using or p rogramming the garage door
opener. People can be injured and objects
can be damaged if they are ca ught in the
eq uipment .

-For security reasons, we recommend that

- The light sensor* for headlight control is
located in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted
c> page 50.
- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, the ins ide of
the headlights, turn signals and tail lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clea r shor tly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
- In the even t of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is no tified in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay¢

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .

Passenger exter io r mirro r tilt function*
To help yo u see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror t ilts
slightly . The knob m ust be in the
P posit ion
for this to happen .
You ca n adjus t the tilted mirror sur face by
turn ing the knob in the des ired direction .
When you move out of reverse and into anoth­
e r gear, the new mirror posit ion is stored and
assigned to the key you are using.
T he mirror goes back into its origina l posit io n
once yo u drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or switch the ignition off .
_& WARNING
Curved mirror sur faces (convex or sphe ri­
c al *) incre ase yo ur field of v iew. Remem­
ber that vehicles or o ther objects will ap­
pear smaller and farther away than w hen
seen in a flat m irror. If you use this mirror
to estimate distances of following veh icles
w hen changing lanes, you co uld estimate
incorrectly and ca use an accide nt.

- If the mirro r ho using is moved u ninten­
tiona lly (for example, whi le park ing your
vehicle), then you must first fo ld the mir­

Installing the head restraints
.. Slide the posts on the head restraint down
into the guides until you feel the posts click

So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints should be pushed
down completely when the rear seats are not
occupied .

- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child

straint again immediately once the child
seat is removed. Driving without head re­

ly.

Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles: with memory function
The memory function allows you to quickly
and easily store and recall personal seating
profiles for the dr iver . The memory function is
operated through the master key and the memory buttons in the driver's door.
The driver's seating profi le is stored and as­
signed to the master key each time the vehicle
is locked. When you open the door, the seat profile is
automatically recalled.
If two people
use one vehicle, it is recommended that each
person always uses "their own" master key.
Up to 2 seat profiles can be stored in the
memory buttons in the driver's door. Once
they are stored, these seat profiles can be se­
lected at any time .
In addition to the driver's seat settings, you
can also store and access the exterior mirror
adjustment settings* using the remote con­
trol key or memory button.
Remote control key
Applies to vehicles: wit h seat memory
To assign the driver's seat settings to the re­
mote control key when locking the vehicle, the
function must be activated in the rad io or
MMI*

Sw itching the i gnition on /off
If you wou ld like to switch the ignition on
without sta rting the engine, follow t hese
steps :
~ Insert the key into the ignition lock .
~ Press the key briefly without pressing the
clutch peda l (for manual transmissions) or
the brake peda l (for automatic transmis­
s ions) .
~ To switch the ignition off, press the key
again .
When starting the engine, major e lectr ica l
loads are switched off temporarily .
You can on ly remove the key with the ignition
switched off.
If the engine sho uld not sta rt immedia tely,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a short time. Repeat starting proced ure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation.
- Never remove the ign ition key from the
ignition look while the vehicle is moving.
Otherw ise, the steering lock could sud­
denly engage and you would not be able
to steer the vehicle.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle . Otherwise, the
engine could be started or e lectr ical
equipment such as the power w indows
cou ld be operated. This ca n lead to seri­
o us inj ury.
- Never leave ch ild ren or persons requiring
assistance unattended in the veh icle. The
doors can be loc ked using the remote
transmitter, preventing people from es­ caping from the vehicle on their own in

You can use the emergency key as an ignition

Emergency off
If it is necessary in unu sual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off while the veh icle is
moving. The engine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period .
A WARNING ~
-Never turn off the engine before the ve­
hicle has come to a comp lete stop. The
fu ll function of the brake booster and the
power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary. Beca use you cannot steer and
brake as you usually wou ld, this could
lead to crashes and ser ious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you sho uld a lways
park your vehi cle with the selector lever
in P. O therwise, the vehicle could in ad ­
ver ten tly roll away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run fo r
up to 1 0 minu tes
even after you have
turned off the engine and removed the
ignit ion key. The radiator fan can a lso
turn on agai n if the engine coo lant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compartment.

tions. To do so, step on the b rake pedal and

(10 km/h).

brake pedal to start the eng ine in a veh icle
with an automat ic transm iss ion.
