If you vehicle is left standing for a long pe­
riod of t ime, note the following:
- The proximity sensor sw itches off afte r a
few days to save energy. You then have
to pull once on the door hand le to unlock
the vehicle and a second time to open it.
- To prevent the battery from draining and
to retain the start ing ability of your vehi­
cle as long as poss ible, the energy man­
agement system gradually tuns off un­ necessary convenience functions You
may not be able to unlock your vehicle
using the convenience key.

Unlocking /locking with the key
In the event that the power locking system
fails, the driver's door can locked and un­
locked using the door lock .

lever to the P position (automatic transmis­
s ion) and turn the key once to the close posi­
t ion @.

When locking the vehicle with the centra l
locking switch, the following applies:
- Opening the doo r and the luggage compart­
ment lid from the
outside is not possib le
(for security such as when stopped at a
light).
- The LED in the central locking switch turns
on when all doors are closed and locked.
- Yo u can open the doo rs individually from the
inside by pulling the doo r handle.
- In the event of a crash w ith airbag deploy­
ment, the doo rs unlock automat ica lly to al ­
low access to the vehicle.
A WARNING
- The power lock ing switch works with the
ignit ion off and a utomatica lly locks the
entire veh icle when the [§] button is
pressed.
- The central locking switch is inoperative
when the vehicle is locked from the out­ side.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the veh i-
cle, which puts lives at risk. Do not leave ..,

- For security reasons, the windows can
only be opened with the remote control
key at a maximum distance of 2 meters
from the vehicle .
- Pay attention when using the lock cylin­
der to close the windows and the panora­
ma sunroof* so that no one is pinched.
Clos ing stops when the key is moved into
the starting pos ition.
Correcting power window malfunctions
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the
one-touch up and down feature must be acti­
vated again .
.. Pull the power window sw itch until the w in­
dow is comp lete ly raised.
.,. Release the switch and pull it again for at
least one seco nd.
Panorama sunroof

The button has two stages. In the second
stage, the roof automatically runs to the end
position (open/closed) when the button is op­
e rated b riefly. The movement can be stopped
by pressing the button .

A wind deflector integrated in the panorama
s u nroof adapts automatically to the sunroof
pos ition. This reduces wind noise to a mini­
mum i n all panorama sunroof pos itions.
You can still operate the pa no rama s unroof
for about 10 minutes aft er th e ignition is
switched off . T he swi tch is deactivated once
t h e dr iver's o r fron t passenger's door is
opened.
Sun shade
T he sun shade can be opened and closed man­
u ally, depending on the position of the panor­
ama sunroof. The sun s hade can be opened
part ia lly.

handle in the direct ion of the arrow.

lid upward until it clicks into place .
The glove compartment can be locked using
the vehicle key.
A WARNING
Always leave the lid on the glove compart­ ment cover closed while driving to reduce
the risk of in ju ry .
Additional storage compartments
There are add itiona l storage compartments,
compartments and holders at other locations
in the vehicle :
- In the upper part of the glove compart­
ment .
- In the center console under the center arm­ rest* .
- On the back of the right front seat. The com­
partment can hold a max i mum weight of 2
lbs (1 kg) .
- Garment hooks on the B -pillar

A WARNING
-Always remove objects from the instru­
me nt pane l. Any items not stored could
s li de aro und inside the vehicle while driv­
ing or when accelerating or when apply­
ing the brakes or when driving a round a
corner .

-When you are dr iving make sure that
anyth ing you may have placed in the cen­
ter conso le or other storage locations
cannot fall out into the footwells . In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to b rake or accele rate .
- A ny articles of clothing that you have
hung up m ust not interfere with the dr iv­
e r's vi ew. The coat hooks are des igned
only for lightweight cloth ing. Neve r hang
a ny cloth ing wi th hard, pointed o r heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During s udden braking or in an accident -
especia lly if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle.
- To reduce the risk of persona l in ju ry in an
accident or s udden stop, always keep the
g love compartment closed wh ile driving.
- Read and follow all WARNINGS
<=> page 161, Important safety instruc­
tions on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vision.
- The coat hooks must on ly be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere w ith the s ide cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause
pe rsonal injury in a crash .
- Do not use coat hange rs fo r hanging
cloth ing o n the coat hooks as th is can in­
terfere w ith prope r deployment of the
side curt ain air bags in an a cciden t.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause pe rsonal in­
jury in a sud den stop.
- For strength-re lated reasons, the mount­
i n g hooks ca n only be used to secure ob­
jects weigh ing up to 10 lb . (5 kg) . Heavi­
er objects will not be adequate ly sec ured
- there is a risk of injury.

Always distribute loads evenly . Make sure
anything on the roof rack is securely tied
down.

The maximum perm iss ible roof we ight is
165 lb (75 kg ). The roof weight is the total of
the we ight of the roof rack, the attachments
and the cargo you are carry ing. You m ust also
not exceed the maximum load weight for the
roof rack you are using.
When us ing a roof rack system which has a
l owe r load carry ing capac ity, you must not use
up the total max imum pe rm issib le load carry ­
i ng capac ity specified above. Instead, you
should load the roof rack system only to the
maximum capacity specified by the manufac­
turer of the roof rack system.
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used
to secure items to the roof rack can fail
during hard braking or in a collision and
cause se rious personal injury .
- Make sure the roof rack is insta lled exact­
ly as specified above¢
page 59.
-Always use suitable mounting straps for
securing items to the roof rack to help
prevent items from shift ing o r fly ing for­
ward.
- Items on the roof rack must always be sec urely mounted.
- The use of a roof rack can negative ly af­
fect the way a vehicle handles . Ca rgo
that is larg e, heavy, bulky, long o r flat
will have a g reater negative influence on
the vehicle's aerodynamics, center of
gravity and overal l handling. Always
dr ive slowly, avo id sudden braking and
maneuvers when transporting cargo on
the roof of your vehicle.
- Never exceed the maxim um permissible
load carrying capacity of the roof of your
veh icle, the permissible axle weights and
the permissible total weight of your vehi­ cle ¢
page 265, Weights.

As a result of the increased wind resist­
ance created by a roof rack, your vehicle is
us ing fuel unnecessarily . So
remove the

engaged by pulling the seatback for­

- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in door or seat
hardware .
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and
damaged be lt hardware can break in a
crash. Inspect the belts periodically.
Belts showing damage to webbing, bind­
ings, buck les, or retractors must be re­
placed.
(D Note
- If you move the front seat back when the
rear seat backrest is folded forward, you
cou ld damage the head restraints on the
rear seat. If necessary, remove the rear
seat head restraint before moving the
front seat back
- Make sure the safety belt is not pinched
in the backrest lock and damaged when
the rear seat backrest if folded back.
Other objects should be removed from
the rear bench seat to protect the back­
rest from damage.

In a collis ion, the laws of phys ics mean that
even smaller items that are loose in the vehi­
cle will turn into heavy missiles that can ca use
serio us inj ury. Items in the vehicle pick up ki­
netic energy which varies with the vehicle and
the weight of the item. Vehicle speed is the
most signif icant factor.
F or example, in a fron tal coll is io n at a speed
of 30 mph (48 km/h), the forces acting on a
10 -lb (S kg) object are about
20 times the
normal weight of the item. This means that
the weight of the item would suddenly be the
eq uivalent of about 200 lbs (90 kg). One can
eas ily imagine the injuries that an item of that
weight flying freely through the passenger compartment can cause in a collision at a
speed considered relatively
low.

-

- Always use s uitable retaining straps and
properly secure items to the tie-downs in
the luggage compartment to he lp pre­

a tie-down.
- For strength-related reasons, the mount­ ing hooks can only be used to secure ob­
jects w eigh ing up to 10 lb. (S kg). Heavi­
e r objects will not be adequate ly se cu red
- there is a ris k of injury.
Reversible mat
Applies to veh icles: w ith cargo mat
The reversible mat protects the luggage com­
partment and bumper from dirt and scratch­ es.

You can use the reversible mat with the d irt­
resistant side or the deco rat ive side. After
load ing or unload ing, fold up the revers ible
m at and close t he luggage compartment lid.
Only store the reversib le mat if it is dry .

& WARNING
-Do not press the accelerator pedal inad­
vertently when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is running and a gear is
selected. Otherwise the vehicle will start
to move immediately and could result in
a crash.
- If the power supply fails, the released
parking brake can no longer engage. In
this case, park the vehicle on level ground and secure it by placing these­
lector lever in the P position (automatic
transmission). See your authorized Audi dealer or qualified repair facility.

If the symbol . in the display or the indi­
cator light. (USA models)/ . (Canada
models) in the instrument cluster flashes,
there is a malfunction in the brake system.

-You can set the parking brake at any time

off. To re-
lease the parking brake, the ignition
must be turned on and the brake pedal
must be pressed.
- If driver 's door is opened while the igni­
tion is switched on, the parking brake
sets automatically. This prevents unin­
tended rolling of the vehicle .
- Occasional noises when the parking
brake is set and released are normal and
are not a cause for concern.
- When the vehicle is parked, the parking
brake goes through a self -test cycle at
regular intervals. Any noises associated
with this are normal.
- If there is a power failure, the parking
brake will not set if it is released, and it
will not release if it is set ¢,&. . See your

authorized Audi dealer or qualified repair
facility.

erate electrical equipment such as power

- No one should remain in the vehicle
when it is locked, especially children.
Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi­
cle, which puts lives at risk.
Starting from a stop
The start assist function ensures that the
parking brake is released automatically upon starting.
Stopping and applying the parking brake

Starting and automatically releasing the
parking brake
Requirement: The driver's door must be
locked and the driver's safety belt must be
fastened.

to take complete control whenever nec­essary. Always keep the safe and legal
distance between your vehicle and
vehicles up ahead .
- Pre sense front works within limits and
will not respond outside the system lim­
its, for example when approaching a
stopped vehicle or stationary obstacle
(end of a traffic jam or vehicle that has
broken down in traffic).
- Always remember that the radar sensor
for the pre sense front works only within
defined detection and range limits that
may prevent the proper detection of oth­
er vehicles.
- The radar sensor's function and range
can be reduced by rain, snow and heavy
spray. Moving vehicles up ahead may not
be promptly detected or may not be de­
tected at all.
- Reflective surfaces including crash barri­
ers or tunnel entrances may impair the
function of the radar sensor.
(]) Note
The sensor can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody. The pre sense front sensor can
be damaged by this. Have your authorized
Audi dealer or qualified repair facility
check their function.
@ Tips
- You can cancel the braking with increas­ ing force that is initiated by the system
by braking yourself, by accelerating no­
ticeably or by swerving.
- Driver messages about pre sense
¢page 92.
- Keep in mind that pre sense can brake
unexpectedly. Always secure any cargo or
objects that you are transporting to re­
duce the risk of damage or injury.
- Certain pre sense front functions switch off when ESC is switched off (sport
mode) or when driving in reverse. -
The pre sense front functions are not
available if there is a malfunction in the
adaptive cruise control* system

- Keep in mind that pre sense front can
brake unexpectedly. Always secure any
cargo or objects that you are transport­
ing to reduce the risk of damage or in­
jury .
