change in your car's behavior. Even so, an uncorrected condition could hurt fuel econ-omy, emission controls, and drivability.Extended driving without correcting the causecould even damage other components inyour vehicle. This light may illuminate if the fuel filler cap is not closed tightly or if the engine was runningwhile the vehicle was refueled.
Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
If the warning light comes on, there may be a malfunction in the ABS system (the standardbraking system will still function). Check thesystem by:
1. Stopping in a safe place and switching off
the ignition.
2. Restart the engine.
3. If the warning light goes off, no further action is required.
If the indicator light remains on, the vehicle should be driven to a trained and qualifiedVolvo service technician for inspection, seepage 129 for additional information.
Rear fog lights

This indicator symbol flashes when the DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control sys-tem) is actively working to stabilize the vehi-cle, see page 138 for more detailed informa-tion.
Sport mode
This symbol illuminates to indicate that the stability system's Sport mode has been acti-
vated to help provide maximum tractive force, for example when driving with snow chains,or driving in deep snow or loose sand.
Low fuel level
When this light comes on, the vehicle should be refueled as soon as possible. See page274 for information about fuel and refueling.
Information symbol
The information symbol lights up and a text message is displayed to provide the driverwith necessary information about one of thevehicle's systems. The message can beerased and the symbol can be turned off bypressing the OK button (see page 195 for
information) or this will take place automati-cally after a short time (the length of time var-ies, depending on the function affected). The information symbol may also illuminate together with other symbols.

NOTE
The function of aftermarket laser detectors may be affected by City Safety's laser sen-sor.
WARNING
The laser sensor emits light when the igni- tion is in mode II or higher, even if City
Safety™ has been switched off.
WARNING
Eye injury may occur if any of the following points are not followed: • It is essential that all pertinent instruc- tions be followed when handling laserinstruments. Testing, repairing, remov-ing, adjusting and/or replacing anycomponents in the laser sensor mayonly be done by a trained and qualifiedVolvo service technician.
• Do not remove the laser sensor(including removal of the lenses). Alaser sensor that has been removedbelongs to laser class 3B according tostandard IEC 60825-1. Devices in laserclass 3B present a risk of injury to theeyes.
• The laser sensor’s connector must bedisconnected before the sensor isremoved from the windshield.
• The laser sensor must be mounted inplace on the windshield before con-necting the sensor’s connector.
• Do not view the laser sensor (whichemits spreading, invisible laser beams)with optical instruments from a dis-tance of less than 4 inches (100 mm).
Symbols and messages in the display
When City Safety™ automatically applies the brakes, one or more of the symbols in themain instrument panel may illuminate and itsassociated message will be displayed. A text message can be erased by pressing briefly on the

Climate system
05
210* Option/accessory, for more information, see Introduction.
NOTE
• Triangular areas at the far sides of the windshield are not heated electricallyand will take slightly longer todefrost/de-ice.
• The heated windshield may affect theperformance/range of e.g., transpond-ers used to automatically pay highwaytolls or other communication equip-ment.
The following occurs when the defroster/ windshield heating functions have been acti-vated: •
Blower speed increases automatically and the air conditioning will switch on (ifnot already on and if the passenger com-partment blower is not turned off) todehumidify the air in the passenger com-partment. Air conditioning can beswitched off by pressing the
AC button.
• Recirculation will not function whiledefrost is engaged.
The climate system will return to its previous settings when the defroster/windshield heat-ing function is switched off. See also page 109 for additional information.
Recirculation/air quality system
RecirculationThis function can be used to shut out exhaust fumes, smoke, etc., from the pas-senger compartment. The airin the passenger compart-ment is then recirculated,i.e., no air from outside the
car is taken into the car when this function isactivated. The indicator light in the button willilluminate when recirculation is selected. If the air in the car recirculates for too long, there is a risk of condensation forming on theinsides of the windows, especially in winter.
TimerThe timer function minimizes the risk of fog- ging, or stale air when the recirculation func-tion is selected by automatically switching offthe function after a certain length of time, depending on the ambient temperature. Acti-vate/deactivate the function under
Climate
settings
Recirculation timer. See page
197 for a description of the menu system.
NOTE
When Defroster is selected, recirculation is always deactivated.
Interior Air Quality System–IAQS*This system consists of a multifilter and an air quality sensor. The filter helps remove gasesand particles from the incoming air, therebyreducing the amounts of odors and contami-nants entering the vehicle. The air quality sen-sor detects increased levels of contaminantsin the outside air. When the air quality sensordetects contaminated outside air, the airintake closes and the air inside the passengercompartment is recirculated, i.e., no outsideair enters the vehicle. The filter also cleansrecirculated passenger compartment air. When the AUTO button is depressed the air
quality sensor is always engaged. Activate or deactivate this function in
Climate
settings
Interior air quality system.
NOTE
• The air quality sensor should always be engaged in order to obtain the bestair in the passenger compartment.
• Recirculation is limited in cold weatherto avoid fogging.
• If the insides of the windows start fog-ging, disengage the air quality sensor.Use the defroster function to increaseairflow to the front, side, and rear win-dows.

General towing precautions:
• Please check with state and local authorities before attempting this typeof towing, as vehicles being towed aresubject to regulations regarding maxi-mum towing speed, length and type oftowing device, lighting, etc.
• If the vehicle's battery is dead, attachjumper cables (see page 121) to pro-vide current for releasing the electricparking brake and to move the gearselector from the
P position to N. If
this is not possible, see page 126 forinformation about manually overridingthe shiftlock system to move the gearselector from P to N.
• Maximum speed: 50 mph (80 km/h).Do not exceed the maximum allowabletowing speed.
• Maximum distance with front wheelson ground: 50 miles (80 km).
• The vehicle should only be towed inthe forward direction.
Having the vehicle towed by a tow truck
Call for professional help from an authorized towing company.Volvo recommends the useof flat bed equipment. The towing eyelet may be used to pull the vehicle onto a flatbed tow truck if:
• The angle of the tow truck’s ramp is not more than 12 degrees from a horizontalplane
• The vehicle’s wheels rotate freely and rollstraight ahead
WARNING
No person or object should be behind the tow truck while the vehicle is being pulledup onto the flatbed.
