CAUTIONThe bike stowed in the rack must not touch either the boot lid or other vehicle
parts - there is a risk of damage to the vehicle occurring.
Place bicycle into the carrier

Insert the front fork of the bicycle into the carrier / mounting ex-

Remove the front wheel from the bike.

Release the quick release

the bicycle fork width.

Place the bicycle fork on the fixing axle and tighten with the quick release

›
Set the left bicycle pedal towards the vehicle front to secure the front wheel
more easily.
›
If you want to transport two bicycles, loosen screw

on the carrier and move the carrier along with attached bike to the left.
The handlebar must not touch the side window of the luggage compartment.

Tighten screw

›
Guide the boot lid gently downwards and check while doing this that there is
no contact between the handlebar and the rear window.

If necessary, the position of the sliding part

adjusted.

The dismantled front wheel can best be stowed between the left crank and
the bicycle frame.

Attach the front wheel with belt

to the front fork » Fig. 98 or to the bicy-
cle frame.

In order to loosen the rubber part of the clamp, push both parts against each
other and open the clamp.

Position the clamp with the rubber part in the direction of travel as low down
on the saddle support as possible and close it.

When transporting two bicycles, stretch the belt » Fig. 99 -

saddles by moving the bicycles apart.
›
Hook the carabiners on the ends of the belt into the lower lashing eyelets
behind the rear seats » Fig. 99 -
 .

Pull the belt through the tensioning clasps on both sides in turn.
›
If necessary, you can correct the position of the bicycles in the vehicle after-
wards.

Remove pilling and residues on upholstery with a brush.
Remove stubborn hair with a “cleaning glove”.
Alcantara ®
Dust and dirt in pores, creases and seams may chafe and damage the surface.
Therefore, they must be removed regularly at short intervals with a cloth or
vacuum cleaner.
Minor changes in colour caused by use are normal.
CAUTION
■ For Alcantara ®
seat covers, do not use any solvents, floor wax, shoe cream,
stain remover, leather cleaners or similar agents.■
Avoid leaving the vehicle in bright sunlight for long periods of time in order
to stop the artificial leather, materials or Alcantara ®
from bleaching. During ex-
tended periods of standing outdoors, protect artificial leather, fabrics or Alcan-
tara ®
by covering.
■
Some clothing materials, such as dark denim, do not have sufficient colour
fastness. This can cause damage or clearly visible discolouration to seat covers
even when treated correctly. This is particularly true for light-coloured uphols-
tery. This is not a defect in the seat cover, but poor colour fastness of the
clothing textiles.

Electrically heated seats
Use a specific cleaning agent such as dry foam or similar to clean the covers. »

Seats without seat heating
Thoroughly vacuum the seat covers with a vacuum cleaner before cleaning.
Clean the seat covers with a damp cloth or cleaning agents particularly formu-
lated for them.
Compressed areas created on the fabrics by everyday use can be removed by
brushing against the nap with a lightly moistened brush.
Always treat all parts of the upholstery so that no visible boundaries are cre-
ated. Then leave the seat to dry completely.
CAUTION■ Do not clean the covers of electrically heated seats either with water or with
other liquids - there is a risk of damaging the seat heating system.■
Regularly vacuum dust from the seat covers using a vacuum cleaner.
■
Electrically heated seats must not be dried after cleaning by switching on the
heater.
■
Do not sit on wet seats - there is a risk of stretching the upholstery.
■
Always clean the seats “from seam to seam”.
Safety belts
Read and observe
and on page 145 first.
Wash dirty seat belts with a mild, soapy solution.
Remove dirt with a soft brush.
WARNING■ The seat belts must not be removed for cleaning.■Never clean the seat belts chemically as chemical cleaning products could
destroy the fabric.■
The seat belts must not be allowed to come into contact with corrosive
liquids (such as acids etc.).
■
Inertia reel belts must be completely dried before being rolled up.

CAUTION■Use the pressure of your hand only, do not strike the trim. The cover could be
damaged.■
If wheel trims are fitted, it must be ensured that an adequate flow of air is
assured to cool the brake system.

Remove the cap
Before removing the wheel bolts the caps are to be removed.
Pulling off
›
Push the extraction pliers » page 168 sufficiently far onto the cap until the
inner catches of the pliers are positioned at the collar of the cap.
›
Remove the cap in the direction of the arrow » Fig. 160.
Fitting
›
Push the cap onto the wheel bolt up to the stop.
Changing a wheel
When changing a wheel, the following instructions must be followed.
›
Remove the full wheel trim or the caps of the wheel bolts.
›
First of all slacken the anti-theft wheel bolt and then the other wheel bolts.
›
Jack up the vehicle until the wheel that needs changing is clear of the
ground.
›
Unscrew the wheel bolts and place them on a clean surface (cloth, paper, etc.).
›
Remove the wheel carefully.
›
Attach the spare wheel and slightly screw on the wheel bolts.
› Lower the vehicle.›Tighten the opposite wheel bolts alternately (cross-wise) with the wheel
wrench. Tighten the anti-theft wheel bolt last.›
Replace the wheel trim or the caps.
When fitting unidirectional tyres, ensure that the direction of rotation is cor-
rect » page 164 .
WARNING■
Undo the wheel bolts only a little (about one turn) until the vehicle has
been jacked up. Otherwise the wheel could become loose and fall off.■
All bolts must be clean and must turn easily.
■
If it is established when changing a wheel that the wheel bolts are corro-
ded and difficult to move, then these must be replaced.
■
Under no circumstances grease or oil the wheel bolts!
Subsequent steps
After changing the wheel, the following work should be carried out.
›
Stow and attach the replaced wheel in the spare wheel well using a special
screw » page 169 , Reserve and temporary spare wheel .
›
Stow the tool kit in the space provided and secure using the strap.
›
Check the tyre pressure on the installed spare wheel as soon as possible.
›
Have the tightening torque of the wheel bolts checked with a torque
wrench as soon as possible.
After changing the wheel, the tyre pressure should be adjusted. In vehicles
with tyre pressure monitoring tyre pressure values are to be stored » page 127.
Change the damaged wheel or consult a specialist garage about repair possi-
bilities.
WARNINGInformation on the wheel bolts■The prescribed tightening torque of the wheel bolts for steel and light al-
loy wheels is 120 Nm.■
If the wheel bolts are tightened to a too low tightening torque, the rim
can come loose when the car is moving. A tightening torque which is too
high can damage the bolts and threads and this can result in permanent
deformation of the contact surfaces on the rim. 
