Button for interior monitor and
towing protection
Read and observe on page 54 first.
The interior monitor detects movements inside the car and then triggers the
alarm.
The tow-away protection triggers the alarm if a vehicle is registered as being
on an inclination.
Activating
The interior monitor and the towing protection are activated automatically af-
ter the vehicle is locked.
Deactivating
›
Switch off the ignition.
›
Open the driver door.
›
Press the symbol button 
» Fig. 40 on the B column on the driver's side.
The illumination of the symbol  in the button changes from red to orange.
›
Lock the vehicle within 30 seconds.
Deactivate the interior monitor and the towing protection if there is a possibili-
ty of the alarm being triggered by movements (e.g. by children or animals)
within the vehicle interior or if the vehicle has to be transported (e.g. by train
or ship) or towed.
CAUTION■ The opened glasses storage compartment reduces the effectiveness of the
interior monitor. To ensure the full functionality of the interior monitor, the
glasses storage compartment must always be closed before locking the vehi-
cle.■
The anti-theft alarm system is activated when the vehicle is locked, even if
the SafeLock system is deactivated. The interior monitor is however not acti-
vated.

Automatic locking of the boot lid
56WARNING■ Ensure that the lock is properly engaged after closing the boot lid. Other-
wise, the lid might open suddenly while the vehicle is moving, even if the
lid was locked – risk of accident!■
Never drive with the tailgate fully opened or slightly ajar otherwise ex-
haust gases may get into the interior of the vehicle – risk of poisoning.
■
Do not press on the rear window when closing the tailgate, as otherwise
this could crack – risk of injury.
■
Make sure that when closing the boot lid, no body parts are crushed -
there is danger of injury!
Note
The function of the button in the grip above the licence plate is deactivated
when starting off or at a speed of 5 km/hour or more for vehicles with central
locking. The function is restored after the vehicle stops and the door is

handle above the number plate.

CAUTION
On vehicles with a variable loading floor, this must not be affixed by means of
the hook on the frame of the boot lid when closing the boot lid » page 90 -
there is the risk of damage to the hook.
Automatic locking of the boot lid
Read and observe
on page 55 first.
If the boot lid is unlocked with the key symbol 
on the remote control key,
then the door is automatically locked after closing.
The period after which the boot lid is locked automatically can be extended by
a specialist garage.
After the activation of the delayed locking, the door can be opened again after
closing within a limited period.
Delayed locking can be deactivated by a specialist garage at any time.
123CAUTIONThere is a risk of unwanted entry into the vehicle before the boot lid is locked
automatically. We therefore recommend locking the vehicle with the key sym-
bol 
on the remote control key.

The window can be operated mechanically by the winder attached to the re-
spective door panel.
Depending on equipment the windows can be operated electrically from the
following locations; the window in the front doors or all windows from the
driver's seat and also via the buttons for the windows in the passenger door or
the rear doors.
WARNINGThe windows should be closed carefully – risk of injury!
CAUTION
■ In the event that the windows are frozen, first of all eliminate the ice
» page 142 , Windows and external mirrors and only then operate the electri-
cal power windows. Otherwise, the window sealing and the electrical power
window mechanism could be damaged.■
Always make sure that the windows are closed when you leave the locked
vehicle.
For the sake of the environment
At high speeds you should keep the windows closed to prevent unnecessarily high fuel consumption. 56Operation

Please observe the following for the purpose of maintaining good handling
characteristics of your vehicle:
›
Distribute loads as evenly as possible.
›
Place heavy objects as far forward as possible.
›
Attach the items of luggage to the lashing eyes or by using the fixing nets
» page 84 .
In the event of an accident, even small and light objects gain so much kinetic energy that they can cause severe injuries.
The magnitude of the kinetic energy is dependent on the speed at which the
vehicle is travelling and the weight of the object.
Example: In the event of a frontal collision at a speed of 50 km/h, an object
weighing 4.5 kg produces energy corresponding to 20 times its own weight.
This means that it results in a weight of approx. 90 kg “ ”.
Luggage compartment light
The warning light turns on when tailgate is opened.
The warning light turns off when the tailgate is closed.
If the boot lid is open and the ignition switched off, the light will extinguish
automatically after around 10 minutes.
WARNING■ Always store transported objects in the boot and attach them to the lash-
ing eyes.■
Loose objects can be thrown forward during a sudden manoeuvre or in
case of an accident and can injure the occupants or other road users.
■
Loose objects could hit a deployed airbag and injure occupants – risk to
life!
■
Please note that the handling properties of the vehicle may be affected
when transporting heavy objects as the centre of gravity can be shifted –
risk of accident. The speed and style of driving must be adjusted according-
ly.
■
If the items of luggage or objects are attached to the lashing eyes with
unsuitable or damaged lashing straps, injuries can occur in the event of
braking manoeuvres or accidents. To prevent items of luggage from moving
around, always use suitable lashing straps that are firmly attached to the
lashing eyes.
■
Items carried in the luggage compartment must be stowed in such a way
that no objects are able to slip forward under sudden driving manoeuvres
or braking – risk of injury.
■
When transporting objects in the luggage compartment that has been en-
larged by folding the rear seats forward, ensure the safety of the passen-
gers transported on the other rear seats » page 10.
■
Do not drive with the luggage compartment lid open or unlatched, other-
wise exhaust gases may get into the interior of the vehicle – risk of poison-
ing!
■
Do not exceed the permissible axle loads and permissible gross weight of
the vehicle – risk of accident!
■
Do not transport people in the boot!
CAUTION
■ Please ensure that the heating elements for the rear window heater are not
damaged as a result of abrasive objects.■

of damaging the boot lid seal.■
After removing the variable cargo floor, place it in such a way that it cannot
be damaged or soiled.

For easier handling, e. g. with the spare tyre, the variable load floor can be fol-
ded up and fastened by means of a hook on the frame of the boot lid.
The variable loading floor can be folded up in both positions (both upper and
lower) and fastened.

WARNINGThe folded-up variable cargo floor limits the driver's view to the rear.

Spoiler
Read and observe
on page 136 first.
If your new vehicle is fitted with a spoiler on the front bumper in combination
with the spoiler on the luggage compartment lid, then the following instruc-
tions must be adhered to.
› For safety reasons the vehicle must only ever be equipped with a spoiler on
the front bumper in combination with the associated spoiler on the tailgate.
› A spoiler cannot be fitted alone on the front bumper nor in combination with-
out a spoiler on the tailgate or in combination with an inappropriate spoiler
on the tailgate.
› We recommend that you consult a ŠKODA Service Partner for any repairs, re-
placement, fitting or removal of spoilers.
WARNING■ Work not properly performed on the spoilers on your vehicle can result in
faults - there is a risk of an accident and serious injury.■
If a front spoiler, full wheel trim, etc. is mounted retrospectively, it must
be ensured that the air supply to the front wheel brakes is not reduced.
The front brakes may overheat, which can have a negative impact on the
functioning of the braking system – there is a risk of an accident.
Component protection
Read and observe
on page 136 first.
Some electronic vehicle components (such as the instrument cluster) are fac-
tory-equipped with component protection.
Component protection has been developed as a protection mechanism for the
following situations.
› Impairment of factory- or garage-fitted electronic components after installa-
tion in another vehicle (for example, after a theft).
› Impairment of electronic components used outside the vehicle.
› The possibility of a legitimate installation or change of electronic compo-
nents for repairs at a specialist garage.
The activated component protection can be realized by functional limitations
of the specific electronic component. Seek help from a specialist garage.
Airbags
Read and observe
on page 136 first.
WARNING■Adjustments, repairs and modifications which have been carried out un-
professionally can cause damage, operational faults, and can also seriously
impair the effectiveness of airbag system – there is the risk of an accident
and fatal injury.■
A change in the suspension of the vehicle including the use of non-ap-
proved wheels and tyre combinations can alter the functioning of the air-
bag system - there is a risk of accident and fatal injury.
WARNINGInformation on the use of the airbag system■Never install any airbag parts into the vehicle that have been removed
from old cars or have been recycled.■
Never fit damaged airbag parts to a vehicle. The airbags may then not be
triggered properly or not at all in the event of an accident. 

the tool kit screws.■
Ensure that the vehicle tool kit is safely secured in the boot.

For your own safety and the safety of the passengers, the following instruc-
tions must be observed before changing a wheel on the road.
Switch on the hazard lights.
The warning triangle must be set up at the prescribed distance - observe
the national legal provisions when doing so.
Park the vehicle as far away as possible from the flow of traffic.
Choose a location with a flat, solid surface.
Have all the occupants get out. The passengers should not stand on the
road (instead they should remain behind a crash barrier, for instance) while
the wheel is being changed.
The national legal requirements must be observed when changing a wheel.
Preparation
Before changing the wheel, the following work should be carried out.
› Switch off the engine.›Select the
first gear or move the selector lever for the automatic gearbox
into position P .›
Apply the handbrake firmly.
›
Uncouple trailer, if attached.
›
Remove the vehicle tool kit » page 167 and the spare wheel from the boot.

The wheel is located in a well under the floor covering in the boot and is fixed
in place with a special bolt » Fig. 171.

Open the tailgate.
›
Lift up the floor in the luggage compartment.
›
Loosen the belt and take out the box with the tool kit.
›
Unscrew the nut in direction of arrow » Fig. 171.
›
Take out the wheel.
Stowing the wheel
›
Place the wheel into the spare wheel well with the wheel rim pointing down-
ward.
›
Pull the fixing band through the opposite holes in the wheel rim.
›
Screw on the nut in the opposite direction to the arrow » Fig. 171 until the
wheel is safely secured.
›
Replace the box with the tool kit into the emergency or spare wheel and se-
cure it with the tape.
›
Fold back the floor in the luggage compartment.
›
Shut the boot lid.
Full wheel trim
Before removing the wheel bolts the wheel trim should be removed. 
