Introduction
Switch on or off
effectMeaningSwitch the unit on or off
manually.Press the rotary/push knob  briefly.
After the ignition key is removed the unit
switches off automatically after approx. 30 mi-
nutes (switch-off delay).
Switch on the unit auto-
matically.Insert the vehicle key into the ignition lock.
The unit switches on automatically if it was on
when the ignition key was removed.
Switch off the unit auto-
matically.Remove the vehicle key from the ignition lock.
When the unit is switched on the system starts up. The last audio source
used is played at the last selected volume setting, provided this does not
exceed the preselected “switch-on volume” ( VOL

⇒  page 30).
Energy management
Depending on the model, if, when the ignition is switched off and the unit
switched on, the battery voltage falls below the minimum onboard power
supply voltage, there is an audible warning and LOW BATTERY appears. The
unit should be switched off.
If the battery voltage level continues to fall, RADIO OFF is briefly displayed
and the radio will switch itself off automatically.
Anti-theft code
If the battery has been disconnected from the vehicle, the vehicle must be
started before turning the unit back on. Adjusting the base volume

Changes to the volume are indicated by a “bar” on the screen.
At “0” the unit is muted (display: ) and any media source currently being
played will be stopped.
It is possible to preset certain volume settings and adjustments
⇒  page 30.
Note
If the basic playback volume of an audio source has been increased sub-
stantially, lower the volume before changing to another audio source. 

Tuning to a station frequency manually in FM and AM mode
● Select the desired frequency band ⇒ page 10.

Select the desired frequency band in Radio mode ⇒ page 10.

to start the scan function.
● OR: press the MENU unit button and start the scan function with the
SCN function button ⇒ Fig. 6.
The scan function commences with the following available station. All avail-
able stations in the selected frequency band will play for approximately 10
seconds. The screen displays the additional functions for Radio mode and
the SCN
button is underlined.
● Press the setting knob 8
or the underlined SCN function button to stop
the scan function.
Special case: Search using the buttons 
or  after stopping the scan
function (SCAN)
If all the available stations have been heard and the scan function (SCAN)
has stopped the search for stations using the 
or  buttons will, in this
case, search all tunable stations, even if the SEEK MODE function setting is
 PRESET . 

When storing a station to a station button, any station already stored to the
same station button in the same memory level will be overwritten.
Manually assigning station buttons individually
● Select the frequency band and memory level.
● Select the station.
● Press and hold the desired station button until you hear a tone.
● The station currently playing ( RADIO 1) will then be stored to that station
button.
The station button to which the station currently playing is assigned is dis-
played underlined on the screen ⇒ Fig. 9.
Storing stations automatically with Autostore (AS)
The Autostore function automatically stores the stations with the strongest
reception at the current moment to the six station buttons in the currently
selected memory level.
● Select the frequency band and memory level.
● Press the MENU

● Press and hold the AS
function button until
STORE appears.
● This procedure can take some seconds. When the stations have been
stored, STORE disappears from the display. Activating stored stations

● Select the frequency band and memory level in which the desired sta-
tion is stored.
● Briefly press the station button to which the desired station is stored.
Depending on the settings, it is possible to switch between stored stations
of a frequency band with the arrow buttons 

A stored station can only be played if it can be received at your current loca-
tion. 

has a good signal. This operation may take some time depending on the
situation.
Incoming traffic announcement (INFO)
An incoming traffic announcement (display: INFO) will interrupt the active
audio mode.
● If required, the radio is switched to the traffic news station (EON) for the
duration of the traffic announcement.
● The Media mode will be paused and the volume will be adjusted to the
preset level.
● During the announcement, the announcement volume can be adjusted
with the volume control  ⇒ Fig. 1 1
. The adjusted setting will be applied
to subsequent announcements.
● Interruption by a traffic announcement can be stopped by pressing the
TP
unit button. The TP function remains active and the next traffic an-
nouncement will again interrupt the current Audio mode. 

ALL: The arrow buttons allow you to browse through
all available sta-
tions (Display:  . to the left and right of the selected station

PRESET: The arrow buttons allow you to browse through only the sta-
tions stored to presets in the selected frequency band (Display:  . to
the left and right of the station buttons ⇒ Fig. 5).
RDSa)
: It is possible to switch off RDS-dependent services for travel in
areas where there is no RDS coverage (automatic station tracking, traffic
news TP) ⇒ page 10.
ON: RDS is switched on.OFF: RDS is deactivated and the AF function button is no longer
available in the SETUP menu. 

HIGH FREQ.: Define the setting for automatic station tracking
⇒ page 10.

ON: The unit always switches to the radio station's frequency that
offers the best reception as the vehicle travels from one area to the
next. As a result, regional programmes may be interrupted.
OFF: No frequency change takes place. The frequency tuned is ac-
tive until reception is interrupted.
VOL ON-VOLUME: Regulating the maximum switch on volume.
If the volume of the radio system, when switched off, was greater than the
limit set, the volume will be reduced to the value set.
If the volume of the radio system, when switched off, was lower than this
limit, the volume will not be modified.
GAL GALA: To set the speed-dependent volume adjustment ⇒ page 31.DIS DISPLAY LIGHT: To adjust the screen brightness.PDC PDC VOL ATTENU. : To reduce the volume of the current audio source to
a preset level when the parking distance warning system is active.
AUX: Settings for the use of an external audio source in the AUX - IN multi-
media socket ⇒ page 19.
AUX VOL LEVEL 1-3: Adjust the input volume of an external audio
source (AUX) to the output volume of the other audio sources.
AUX VOL LEVEL OFF: The AUX-IN multimedia socket will be deactiva-
ted and no longer displayed in the Media selection menu .
SFOb)
: Service Following. If this setting is activated (ON) and the reception
of the DAB station selected gets worse, this function automatically search-
es for another channel in DAB with the same station.
DTPb) DAB-TP: This setting only affects the DAb station currently selected if
the TP function has already been activated on the equipment (TP ON).
DTP OFF: Only FM traffic announcements (TA) interrupt the current
broadcast.
Function button: Effect DTP ON: Both FM and DAB traffic announcements interrupt the cur-
rent broadcast.
FMLb) DAB-FM Link: If this setting is activated (ON) and the reception of the
DAB station selected gets worse, and no other channel is available with
the same station, or when reception in DAB is deficient, this function auto-
matically searches for another channel in the FM band.
The change is not possible if the reception of the FM station is deficient or
the stations do not transmit information that established the relationship
between the DAB and FM stations. In this case it is not a faulty radio opera-
tion.
If the DAB reception is recovered with greater quality than the FM station it
will switch back from FM to DAB.
a) It is not available everywhere or for all radio models.
b) They are only available for radio models with DAB.
Functional mode description of speed-dependent volume adjustment
(GALA)
The GALA function automatically adjusts the volume in line with the speed
of the vehicle.
The degree to which the volume increases with speed (GALA) is set on a
scale between 1 and 7.
If a low value is set, the volume increases only slightly as the speed of the
vehicle increases. At a high setting the volume increases further. At 0,
speed-dependent volume adjustment is switched off. 
