Within 30 seconds of locking the doors andtailgate using the LOCK switch (1), press theLOCK switch twice rapidly to fold the out-side rear-view mirrors.
Within 30 seconds of unlocking the doors andtailgate using the UNLOCK switch (2), pressthe UNLOCK switch twice rapidly to returnthe outside rear-view mirrors to theirextended positions.The outside rear-view mirrors are not initiallyset to work as described above. The door and tailgate unlock function can beset to the following two conditions.Each time the door and tailgate unlock func-tion is set, a chime will sound to tell you thecondition of the door and tailgate unlockfunction.1. Put the operation mode in OFF.2. Place the combination headlamps and dip-per switch in the “OFF” position, andleave the driver’s door open.3. Press the LOCK switch (1) for 4 to 10seconds and press the UNLOCK switch(2) during this time.
4. Release in sequence the LOCK andUNLOCK switches within 10 seconds ofpressing the LOCK switch in step 3.

1. With the MITSUBISHI mark facing you,insert the cloth-covered tip of a straightblade (or minus) screwdriver into thenotch in the case and use it to open thecase.2. Remove the old battery.
3. Install a new battery with the + side (A)up.4. Close the case firmly.5. Check the keyless operation function tosee that it works.

The keyless operation system allows you tolock and unlock the doors and tailgate andstart the engine simply by carrying the key-less operation key with you.The keyless operation key can also be used asthe keyless entry system remote controlswitch.Refer to “Keyless entry system” on page 4-3.The driver should always carry the keylessoperation key. This key is necessary for lock-ing and unlocking the doors and tailgate,starting the engine and otherwise operatingthe vehicle, so before locking and leaving thevehicle, be sure to check that you have thekeyless operation key.

zBecause the keyless operation key receivessignals in order to communicate with thetransmitters in the vehicle, the battery con-tinually wears down regardless of keylessoperation key use. The battery life is 1 to 3years, depending on usage conditions. Whenthe battery wears out, replace the batteryaccording to the description in this manual orhave it replaced at your MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.Refer to “Procedure for replacing the remotecontrol switch battery” on page 4-5.zBecause the keyless
operation key continu-
ally receives signals, strong radio wavereception could affect battery wear. Do notleave the key near a TV, personal computer,or other electronic device.

The electric tailgate can be operated using theremote control switch on the keyless opera-tion key, or the close switch on the tailgatewhen the electric tailgate power switch (A) ison.
CAUTIONzWhen closing the electric tailgate, make surethere is no foreign matter around the striker(A).If foreign matter gets into the striker it couldprevent the electric tailgate from closing nor-mally.NOTE
zWhen opening and closing the electric tail-gate, do not place your hands near the arm(B).zGas struts (C) are installed in the locationsshown below in order to support the electrictailgate.zMake sure not to bump your head in the areanear the arm of the
electric tailgate when
loading and unloading luggage.

zPlease observe the following in order to pre-vent damage or faulty operation.•Do not pull on the gas struts when closingthe electric tailgate or otherwise push orpull them.•Do not attach any plastic material, tape,etc., to the gas struts.•Do not tie string, etc., around the gas struts.•Do not hang anything fr

(The buzzer sounds intermittently and thesecurity indicator (A) blinks.)
The system preparation time extends from thepoint at which all of the doors and the tailgateare locked by pressing of the LOCK switchon the remote control switch or the keylessoperation function to the point at which thesystem armed mode goes into effect.During this time, it is possible to temporarilyopen a door or the tailgate without using thekeyless entry system or the keyless operationfunction and without causing the alarm tosound (for example, when you forget some-thing inside the vehicle or realize that a win-dow is open).(The buzzer stops and the security indicatorcontinues to blink with the indicator’sreduced lit-up duration time.)Once the system preparation mode has ended,the system armed mode starts.
zIf the turn-signal lamps do not blink after thelocking and unlocking operation using thekeyless entry system or
the keyless operation
function, the security alarm system may bemalfunctioning.Have the vehicle inspected at aMITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorised ServicePoint.If the confirmation function (blinking of theturn-signal lamps by
locking and unlocking
the doors and the tailgate) is deactivated, theturn-signal lamps do not blink after the lock-ing and unloc
king operation.

zThe security alarm system could be activatedin the following situations.•Using a car washer•Taking the vehicle on a ferry•Parking in an automated car park•Leaving someone or a pet in the vehicle•Leaving a window or the sunroof open• Leaving an unstable object such as a stuffedtoy or accessory in the vehicle• Suffering a continuous impact or vibrationby hail, thunder, etc.NOTE
• Air flows by the Remote Climate Control.According to the situations, please deacti-vate the vehicle inclination detection func-tion and the interior intrusion detectionfunction.Refer to “To deactivate the vehicle inclina-tion detection function and the interiorintrusion detection f
unction” on page 4-27.

If an unlawful opening of any of the doors,tailgate or bonnet is detected during the sys-tem armed mode, the alarm will be activatedto warn people around the vehicle of anabnormal condition.Inside alarm (approx. 10 seconds):
The buzzer sounds, warning those insidethe vehicle of an abnormal condition.(except for vehicles equipped with theinterior alarm sensor)
Outside alarm (approx. 30 seconds):
The turn-signal lamps blink and the horn(the siren for vehicles equipped with theinterior alarm sensor) sounds, warningpeople around the vehicle of an abnormalcondition.

If a person who is unfamiliar with the secu-rity alarm system accidentally unlocked thevehicle, causing the alarm to sound, thealarm would be a nuisance to people nearby.

The following methods can be used to cancelthe system when it is in the system prepara-tion mode or the system armed mode.zPressing the UNLOCK switch on theremote control switch.zPutting the operation mode in ON.zOpening any one of the doors or the tail-gate, when the system is in the systempreparation mode.
zHolding the keyless operation key andpressing the driver’s or front passenger’sdoor lock/unlock switch, or the tailgateopen switch to unlock the doors and thetailgate.

When the system is in the system armedmode, the alarm will be activated as followsif the vehicle is unlocked or if any of thedoors, tailgate or bonnet is opened using amethod other than the keyless entry system orthe keyless operation function.

Cancelling the system

zIf the UNLOCK switch on the remote con-trol switch, or the driver’s or front passen-ger’s door lock/unlock switch is pressed andno door or the tailgate is opened within 30seconds, the doors and the tailgate will auto-matically relock. In this
case as well, the sys-
tem preparation mode will go into effect.zThe time between pressing of the UNLOCKswitch on the remote control switch, or thedriver’s or front passenger’s doorlock/unlock switch and automatic lockingcan be adjusted.
