Anti-lock braking system warning light
When this light comes on, the anti-lock braking system is not functioning and only the ordinary braking system is functioning. Park your vehicle in a safe
place and stop the engine.
Test the system as described on page 5-94. If the light does not go out after the test
, or if it comes on again, we recom-
mend that you have the system checked at
an authorized Mitsubishi Motors
dealer or a repair facility of your choice as soon as possible.

SRS warning light
It is not necessary to stop the vehicl
e immediately, but we recommend that
you have the airbag and the pre-tensione
r seat belt system checked at an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon as possible.

Tire pressure monitoring system warning light
If the warning light comes on, you should
stop and adjust the tires to the
proper inflation pressure as soon as possible. (See “Tire inflation pressures” on page 9-21.)Once adjustments have been made, the
warning light will go off after a few
minutes of driving. If the warning light blinks for approximately 1 minute and then remain continuously illuminated, the system is not operating properly. If the sys- tem returns to normal, the warning light will go off. If the warning light does not go off, have the vehicle inspected at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

If your vehicle becomes stuck in sand, mud or snow
1. Slowly press down on the accelerator peda
l to get your vehicle moving again. For
vehicle equipped with the Electronically controlled 4WD system, set the drive mode- selector to the “4WD AUTO” or “4WD LO
CK” position and then slowly press down
on the accelerator pedal to get your vehicle moving.2. If there is nothing to stop your tires from
slipping, rock your vehicle back and forth to
free it.
P.8-15
WA R N I N G When attempting to rock your vehicle out of
a stuck position, be sure that no one is
near the vehicle. The rocking motion may c
ause the vehicle to
suddenly lurch forward or backward, possibly injuring bystanders. Avoid revving the engine or spinning the
wheels. Prolonged efforts to free a stuck ve
hicle may result in overheating and transa
xle failure.
If the vehicle remains stuck after several rocking at
tempts, have a towing service pull the vehicle out.

The installation of accessories, optional parts, etc., should only be carried out within the limits prescribed by law in the driving area and in accordance with theguidelines and warnings contained within the documents accompanying this vehicle. Only Mitsubishi Motors approved acces-sories should be fitted to your vehicle. Improper installation of electrical parts could cause fire. Refer to the “Modifica-tion/alterations to the electrical or fuelsystems” section within this owner’s man- ual. Using a cellular phone or radio set inside the vehicle without an external antenna may cause electrical system interference, which could lead to unsafe vehicle opera-tion. Tires and wheels which do not meet spec- ifications must not be used.Refer to the “Specifications” section for information regarding wheel and tire sizes.
Due to the large number of accessory and replacement parts provided by different man- ufacturers in the market, it is not always pos-sible for an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer to check whether the attachment or installation of non-Mitsubishi Motors genu-ine parts will affect the driving safety of your Mitsubishi-vehicle.

This position is used for most city and high- way driving. The trans
mission will automati-
cally and continuously change its gear ratio depending on road and driving conditions. This position is for driv
ing up very steep hills
and for engine braking at low speeds when driving down steep hills.

Whether the vehicle is stationary or inmotion, sports mode is selected by pushingthe selector lever from the “D” (DRIVE) position into the manual gate (1). To return to “D” (DRIVE) operation, push the selectorlever back into the main gate (2). In sports mode, rapid
shifting is possible sim-
ply by operating the selector lever or spor-tronic steering wheel paddle shifter. Unlike the manual transaxle, sports mode allows shifting with the accelerator pedaldepressed.
To prevent the vehicle from rolling when stopped on a slope, the engine should be started in the “P” (PARK) position, not in “N” (NEUTRAL) position. To prevent rolling, always keep your foot on the brake pedal when the vehicle is in “N” (NEUTRAL) position, or when shift-ing into or out of “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion.
“D” DRIVE
CAUTION To prevent transmission damage, never shift into the “D” (DRIVE) position from the “R” (REVERSE) position while the vehicle is inmotion.
“L” LOW (except for vehicles with manual gate)
WA R N I N G
WA R N I N G This position can be used for maximum engine braking. Be very careful not to shift into “L” (LOW) suddenly. Sudden engine braking may cause the tires to skid.Select this position according to the road conditions and vehicle speed.

Refer to “Engine malfunction indicator (“SERVICE ENGINE SOON” or “Check engine light”)” on page 5-146 and follow the appropriate measures. A safety device in the Twin Clutch SST has been activated due to a possible malfunctionin the Twin Clutch SST. Refer to “If the gearshift lever position dis- play is not showing” on
page 5-73 and follow
the appropriate measures. A safety device in the Twin Clutch SST has been activated due to a possible malfunctionin the Twin Clutch SST or in the engine elec-tronic control module. Perform the following procedure.1. Park your vehicle in a safe place and stop the engine. 2. Restart the engine. If the vehicle moves and accelerates normally after this procedure is performed, there is no malfunction in the transmission.
However, if the vehicle does not move or accelerate normally, or if this problem occurs repeatedly, have the vehicle checked by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or arepair facility of your ch
oice as soon as possi-
ble.

Select the control mode from the followingthree types to suit the driving conditions.
When the gearshift lever position display is not showing When warning display is showing or when no warning is showing in the multi- information display
CAUTION When the Twin Clutch SST fluid tempera- ture is high, the engine idle speed when the vehicle is stopped may increase or the vehi- cle will have a weak tendency to creep. After that, if the Twin Clutch SST fluid tem- perature rises even higher, the warning display will appear.
ACD (Active center differ- ential system)
(if so equipped)
CAUTION Do not over-rely on th
e ACD. Even the ACD
cannot prevent the natural laws of physics from acting on the vehicle. This system, like any other system, has limits and cannot help you to maintain traction and control of thevehicle in all circumstances. Reckless driv- ing can lead to accidents. It is the driver’s responsibility to drive carefully. This meanstaking into account the traffic, road and envi- ronmental conditions. Be sure to use tires that are the same speci- fied size, type, and brand, and have no differ- ence in the amount of wear for all fourwheels. Otherwise, the ACD may not work properly.NOTE
If the parking brake lever is pulled up while the vehicle is moving, the center differential is designed to switch to a free state condition which will allow the rear wheel to lock eas-ier.

If the warning display goes out, there is no abnormal condition. If the warning display does not go out or appears fre- quently, it is not necessary to stop the vehicle immediately, but we recommend you to haveyour vehicle inspected.
NOTE
If the ambient temperature drops and the vis- cosity of the AWC control fluid increases, the warning may be displayed. At this time, ACD cont
rol is temporarily sus-
pended, but this will not affect normal driv-ing. After the vehicle is driven for a while, if the engine is restarted after the AWC controlfluid warms up or the ambient temperature increases, the ACD control will start operat- ing again if the warning display goes out.
