If your vehicle is equipped with daytime run- ning lights, the combinations of switch opera- tions and illuminated lights differ in accordance with the following conditions. [When the engine is started, and the parking brake is released] The daytime running lights will be illumi- nated:

For a safer and more enjoyable trip, always observe the following: Before starting the vehicle, make certain that you and all passengers are seated and wearing their seat belts properly (with children in the rear seat, in appropriaterestraints), and that all the doors are locked.
Move the driver’s seat as far backward as possible, while still keeping good visibil- ity, and good control of the steering wheel, brakes, accelerator, and controls.Check the instrument panel indicators and multi-information display for any possible problem. Move the front passenger seat as far back as possible. Make sure that infants and small children are properly restrained in accordance withall laws and regulations.
Check these by selecting the defroster mode, and set the blower switch on high. You should be able to feel the air blowing against the windshield. (Refer to “Defrosting or defogging the wind- shield and door windows” on page 7-6, 7-12, 7-17, 7-22, 7-27.) Check all the tires for heavy tread wear or uneven wear patterns. Look for stones, nails,glass, or other objects stuck in the tread. Look for any tread cuts or sidewall cracks. Check the wheel nuts for tightness, and the tires(including spare tire) for proper pressures.
WA R N I N G If a floor mat is the wrong size or is not properly installed, it can interfere with the operation of the pedals. Interference with the pedals can cause unintended accelera- tion and/or increased stopping distancesresulting in a crash and injury. Always make sure the floor mat does not interfere with the accelerator or brake pedal. Always use the retaining clip on the driver’s floorboard to secure the floormat. Always install the mat with the correct side facing down. Never install a second mat over or under an existing floor mat. Do not use a floor mat designed for another model vehicle ev
en if it is a Mit-
subishi genuine floor mat. Before driving, be sure to check the fol- lowing:• Periodically check that the floor mat isproperly secured with the retaining clips. If you remove the floor mat while clean-ing the inside of your vehicle or for any other reason, always check the condition of the floor mat after it has been rein-stalled.• While the vehicle is stopped with the engine off, check that the floor mat is not interfering with the pedals by depressingthe pedals fully.

Be sure that the parking brake is firmly set when parked and that the selector lever (CVT) or gearshift lever (Twin Clutch SST) is in the “P” (PARK) position.When parking on a hill, it is important to set the parking brake before moving the selector lever (CVT) or gearshift lever (Twin ClutchSST) to the “P” (PARK) position. This pre-vents loading the parking brake against the transaxle gear. When this happens, it is diffi- cult to move the selector lever (CVT) or gear-shift lever (Twin Clutch SST) out of the “P” (PARK) position. Never leave the engi

Maximum loaded vehicle weight: the sum of - (a) Curb weight; (b) Accessory weight;(c) Vehicle capacity weight; and (d) Production options weight. Curb weight: the weight of a motor vehi- cle with standard equipment including the maximum capacity of fuel, oil, and cool- ant. Accessory weight: the combined weight (in excess of those standard items which may be replaced) of automatic transmis- sion, power steering, power brakes, powerwindows, power seats, radio, and heater, to the extent that these items are available as factory- installed equipment (whetherinstalled or not). Before removing the jack, lift up the luggage floor board. For front-wheel drive vehicles, pull the lug-gage floor board (A) rearward to release the hooks (B), and then lift it up.
Turn the shaft end (1) so that the jack con- tracts, then remove it from the storage bracket (C). Turn the shaft end (2) by hand to expand the jack until it is held firmly in position.

Place the gearshift lever in the “Neutral” position. Turn the ignition switch to the “ACC” posi-tion and secure the steering wheel in a straight-ahead position with a rope or tie- down strap. Never place the ignition switch inthe “LOCK” position when towing.
Release the parking brake. Place the gearshift lever in the “Neutral” position (manual transaxle) or the selectorlever in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position (CVT).

front or rear wheels on the ground (Type B or Type C) as illustrated. This could result inthe driving system damage or vehicle may jump at the carriage. If you tow all-wheel drive vehicles, use TypeD or Type E equipment. Do not tow continuously variable transmis- sion (CVT) vehicles with the driving wheels on the ground (Type B) as illustrated. If the vehicle is towed like this, the continuouslyvariable transmission (CVT) fluid may not reach all parts of the transmission, thus dam- aging it.If you tow CVT vehicles, use Type C, D or E equipment. If the manual transaxle is malfunctioning or damaged, transport the vehicle with the driv- ing wheels on a carriage (Type C, D or E) as illustrated.
[For front-wheel drive vehicle equipped with the active stability control (ASC)] If the vehicle is towed with the ignition switch in the “ON” position and only the front wheels or only the rear wheels raisedoff the ground, the ASC may operate, result- ing in an accident. When towing the vehicle with only the front wheels or only the rearwheels raised, keep the ignition switch in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position. [For vehicle equipped with the Electronically controlled 4WD system] Even in “2WD” mode, the vehicle cannot betowed with the front or the rear wheels on the ground.

the engine idle for a few minutes to cool the transaxle before trying again. If your vehicle is still stuck after several rock- ing attempts, call for a commercial tow truckservice.
When driving on a road covered with snow or ice, use snow tires. Tire chains cannot be used on your vehicle. There may be state or local regulations aboutusing snow tires. Always check the regu- lations in your local area before using them. Refer to the section entitled “Snowtires” on page 9-24 and “Tire chains” on page 9-24. Drive slowly. Do not make sudden starts or stops, sharp turns, or slam on the brakes. Allow extra distance between your vehi- cle and the vehicle in front of you, and avoid sudden braking. If a skid occurs when the accelerator pedal is depressed, take your foot off the pedal. Steer gently in the direction of the skid.
Your vehicle is equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), hold the brake pedal down firmly and keep it depressed. Do not pump the brake pedal which willresult in reduced braking performance. After parking on snowy or icy road, it may be difficult to move your vehicle dueto freeze-up of the brake. Depress the accelerator pedal little by little to move the vehicle after confirming safety of thevehicle. Drive as slow as possible when driving on bumpy or rutted roads or over potholes etc.
WA R N I N G When trying to rock your vehicle out of a stuck position, make sure that there are no people nearby. The rocking motion canmake your vehicle suddenly lurch forward or backward, and injure any bystanders.
On wet roads
CAUTION Avoid flooded roads. Water is often deeper than it looks, and you could be seriously hurt by driving into flood water. When driving in rain, on water-covered roads, or through a car wash, water could get into the brake discs and make them fail tem-porarily. In such cases, lightly press the brake pedal to see if they are working prop- erly. If they are not, press the pedal lightly several times while driving to dry the brake pads or linings, then check them again.
When driving in rain, a layer of water may form between the tires and the road surface (aquaplaning). This loosens your tires’ grip on the road, making it difficult to steer or brake properly. When driving on a wet road:• Drive your vehicle at a safe speed.• Do not drive on worn tires.• Always keep the tires at the correct infla-tion pressures.
On snowy or icy roads
CAUTION
CAUTION Do not depress the accelerator pedal rapidly. The vehicle could start moving when it breaks free from the ice, possibly resulting inan accident.
On a bumpy or rutted road
CAUTION Driving on bumpy, rutted roads or over pot- holes can damage the tires and wheels.Wheels with low-profiles tires or under- inflated tires are especially at risk for dam- age.

Severe surface cracking, scuffing or worn spots. If the fabric casing of the hose is showing through any cracks or worn spots in the rubber hose cover, the hose shouldbe replaced. The brakes can fail if the hose wears through. Improper installation may cause twisting, or wheel, tire or chassis interference.

The best way to keep carbon monoxide gas from entering inside your vehicle is to have the engine exhaust system properly serviced.
Have a competent mechanic inspect the com- plete exhaust system and nearby body areas for broken, damaged, deteriorated, or mispo- sitioned parts if you notice any of the follow-ing: A change in the sound of the exhaust sys- tem The smell of exhaust fumes inside the vehicle The underside or rear of the vehicle is damaged
Also check the exhaust system each time the vehicle is raised for lubrication, oil changes,or required service. Any open seams or loose connections could let dangerous exhaust fumes seep into the luggage compartment andpassenger compartments. Check for holes or exhaust gas leaks caused by corrosion or damage. Check the joints and connections for looseness or exhaust gas leaks. Check the rubber hangers and brackets for damage.
