N00546300015 N00518000310
The power steering system operates while the engine is running. It helps reduce the effort needed to turn the steering wheel. The power steering system has mechanicalsteering capability in case the power assist is lost. If the power assist is lost for some rea- son, you will still be able to steer your vehi-cle, but you will notice it takes much more effort to steer. If this happens, have your vehi- cle inspected at an authorized MitsubishiMotors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.

CAUTION When towing the vehicle with only the front wheels or only the rear wheels raised off the ground, do not place the ignition switch in the “ON” position. Placing the ignitionswitch in the “ON” position could cause the ASC to operate, resulting in an accident. Note that the correct towing method dependson the transmission type and the vehicle’s drive configuration. For details, refer to
“Towing” on page 8-14.
Power steering system
WA R N I N GDo not stop the engine while the vehicle is moving. Stopping the engine would make the steering wheel extremely hard to turn, possibly resulting in an accident.
Hydraulic power steering sys- tem (HPS)
(if so equipped)
CAUTION Do not leave the steering wheel turned all the way in one direction. This can cause damage to the power steering system.
Electric power steering system (EPS)
(if so equipped)NOTE
During repeated full-lock turning of the steering wheel (for example, while you are manoeuvring the vehicle into a parkingspace), a protection function may be acti- vated to prevent overheating of the power steering system. This function will make thesteering wheel gradually harder to turn. In this event, limit your
turning of the steering
wheel for a while. When the system hascooled down, the steering effort will return to normal. If you turn the steering wheel while the vehi- cle is stationary with the headlights on, the headlights may become dim. This behavioris not abnormal. The headlights will return to their original brightness after a short while.

Cruise control (if so equipped) Features and controls 5-103
5
The cruise control will be turned off automat- ically in the following conditions: When you depress the clutch pedal (on vehicles with manual transaxle). Your speed slows to about 10 mph (15 km/h) or more below the set speedbecause of an uphill, etc. Your speed slows to about 25 mph (40 km/h) or less. When the Twin Clutch SST control mode is set to “Sport” mode (on vehicles with Twin Clutch SST).Refer to “Twin Clutch SST control mode” on page 5-76.
When the active stability control (ASC) starts operating (if so equipped). Refer to “Active stability control (ASC)” on page 5-95.
Also, the set speed driving may be deacti- vated as follow: When the engine speed rises and approaches the tachometer’s red zone (the red-colored part of the tachometer dial).
N00518900263
If the cruise control is deactivated by any ofthe conditions described in “To deactivate”on page 5-102, you can return to the previ- ously set speed by pressing the “ACC RES” switch (C) while driving at a speed of approx-imately 25 mph (40 km/h) or greater.
Type 1 Type 2
WA R N I N G On vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT) or Twin Clutch SST,although the cruise control will be disen- gaged when shifting to the “N” (NEU- TRAL) position, never move the selectorlever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin Clutch SST) to the “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion while driving. You would have no engine braking and this could cause a serious accident.
CAUTION When the set speed driving is deactivated automatically in any situation other than those listed above, there may be a system malfunction. Press the “ON OFF” switch to turn off thecruise control and have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of yourchoice.

If your vehicle becomes stuck in snow, sand, or mud, it can often be moved by a rockingmotion. Rock your vehicle back and forth to free it. Do not rev the engine or spin the wheels.Constant efforts to free a stuck vehicle can cause overheating and transaxle failure. Let
Towing the vehicle by a tow truck
CAUTION This vehicle must not be towed by a tow truck using sling lift type equipment (TypeA) as illustrated. Using a sling lift will dam- age the bumper and front end. Do not tow all-wheel dr
ive vehicles with the
front or rear wheels on the ground (Type B or Type C) as illustrated. This could result inthe driving system damage or vehicle may jump at the carriage. If you tow all-wheel drive vehicles, use TypeD or Type E equipment. Do not tow continuously variable transmis- sion (CVT) vehicles with the driving wheels on the ground (Type B) as illustrated. If the vehicle is towed like this, the continuouslyvariable transmission (CVT) fluid may not reach all parts of the transmission, thus dam- aging it.If you tow CVT vehicles, use Type C, D or E equipment. If the manual transaxle is malfunctioning or damaged, transport the vehicle with the driv- ing wheels on a carriage (Type C, D or E) as illustrated.
[For front-wheel drive vehicle equipped with the active stability control (ASC)] If the vehicle is towed with the ignition switch in the “ON” position and only the front wheels or only the rear wheels raisedoff the ground, the ASC may operate, result- ing in an accident. When towing the vehicle with only the front wheels or only the rearwheels raised, keep the ignition switch in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position. [For vehicle equipped with the Electronically controlled 4WD system] Even in “2WD” mode, the vehicle cannot betowed with the front or the rear wheels on the ground.
Towing manual transaxle vehicles with rear wheels off the ground (Type B)
CAUTION
Towing with front wheels off the ground (Type C)
WA R N I N G To prevent entry of exhaust gas from the towing vehicle, set the selection switch to the recirculation position.
