The PASSENGER AIR
BAG OFF indicator
lamp does not light up
and/or stays on.
The front-passenger
seat is:
Runoccupied
Roccupied with the
weight of a child up
to twelve months old
in a child restraint
system
The OCS is malfunctioning.
XMake sure there is nothing between the seat cushion and the
child seat.
XMake sure that the backrest and base of the child restraint
system are resting securely on the front-passenger seat. If
necessary, adjust the position of the front-passenger seat.
XWhen installing the child restraint system, make sure that the
seat belt is tight. Do not pull the seat belt tight with the front-
passenger seat adjustment. This could result in the seat belt
being pulled too tightly.
XCheck the installation of the child restraint system.
XMake sure that no objects are applying additional weight onto
the seat.
XIf the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp remains off, have
the OCS system checked as soon as possible at a qualified
specialist workshop. Do not transport a child on the front-
passenger seat until the OCS has been repaired.
XObserve the additional display messages in the multifunction
display (Ypage 301).
PRE-SAFE®(anticipatory occupant
protection system)
Introduction
PRE-SAFE®takes preemptive measures to
protect occupants in certain hazardous
situations.
Important safety notes
!Make sure that there are no objects in the
footwell or behind the seats when resetting
the seats. There is a risk that the seats
and/or the objects could be damaged.
Despite your vehicle being equipped with the
PRE-SAFE®system, the possibility of
personal injuries occurring as a result of an
accident cannot be eliminated.
Always adapt your driving style to suit the
prevailing road and weather conditions and
maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in
front. Drive carefully.
Function
PRE-SAFE®intervenes:
Rin emergency braking situations, e.g. when
BAS is activated.
Rin critical driving situations, e.g. when
physical limits are exceeded and the
vehicle understeers or oversteers severely.
Ron vehicles with DISTRONIC PLUS:if
BAS PLUS brakes hard or the radar sensor
system detects an imminent danger of
collision in certain situations.
PRE-SAFE®takes the following measures
depending on the hazardous situation
detected:
Rthe front seat belts are pre-tensioned.
Rif the vehicle skids, the sliding sunroof and
the side windows are closed so that only a
small gap remains. On vehicles with a
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel, they are closed completely.

XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position
1or2in the ignition lock.
XTo open fully:press switchCand release.

Both hinged side windows open fully.
iIf the hinged side windows are blocked
when closing, the closing procedure is
interrupted and the hinged side windows
open again fully.
Convenience opening
General notes
You can ventilate the vehicle before you start
driving. To do this, the SmartKey is used to
carry out the following functions
simultaneously:
Runlock the vehicle
Ropen the side windows
Ropen the hinged side windows
Ropen the sliding sunroof or the panorama
roof with power tilt/sliding panel and the
roller sunblinds
Rswitch on the seat ventilation for the
driver's seat
iThe convenience opening feature can
only be operated using the SmartKey. The
SmartKey must be close to the vehicle. For
vehicles without KEYLESS-GO, the
SmartKey must be near the driver's door
handle.
Convenience opening
XVehicles without KEYLESS-GO:point the
tip of the SmartKey at the door handle on
the driver's door.
XPress and hold the6button until the
side windows and the sliding sunroof or the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel are in the desired position.
If the roller sunblinds of the panorama roof
with power tilt/sliding panel are closed, the
roller sunblinds are opened first.
XPress and hold the6button again until
the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel is in the desired position.
XTo interrupt convenience opening:
release the6button.
Convenience closing feature
Important safety notes
GWARNING
When the convenience closing feature is
operating, parts of the body could become
trapped in the closing area of the side window
and the sliding sunroof. There is a risk of
injury.
Observe the complete closing procedure
when the convenience closing feature is
operating. Make sure that no body parts are
in close proximity during the closing
procedure.
When you lock the vehicle, you can
simultaneously:
Rclose the side windows
Rclose the hinged side windows
Rclose the sliding sunroof or the panorama
roof with power tilt/sliding panel
On vehicles with a panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel, you can then close the
roller sunblinds.

Proceed as follows if someone is trapped:
RRelease the7button to interrupt the
closing procedure.
RPress and hold the6button to open.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO:
RRelease the sensor surfaces on the exterior
door handle to interrupt the closing
procedure.
RTo open, pull the same door handle
immediately and hold it firmly. The door
windows and the sliding sunroof will open
for as long as the door handle is held but
the door is not opened.

Rthe side window (Ypage 94)
Rthe sliding sunroof (Ypage 99)
Using the SmartKey
The SmartKey must be in the vicinity of the
vehicle, on vehicles without KEYLESS-GO the
SmartKey must be near the door handle.
XVehicles without KEYLESS-GO:point the
tip of the SmartKey at the door handle on
the driver's door.
XPress and hold the7button until the
side windows and the sliding sunroof or the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel are fully closed.
XMake sure that all the side windows and the
sliding sunroof or panorama roof with
power tilt/sliding panel are closed.
On vehicles with a panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel:
XPress and hold the7button again until
the roller sunblinds of the panorama roof
with power tilt/sliding panel close.
XTo interrupt convenience closing:
release the7button.
Using KEYLESS-GO
The KEYLESS-GO key must be outside the
vehicle. All the doors must be closed.
XTouch recessed sensor surfaceCon the
door handle until the side windows and the
sliding sunroof or the panorama roof with
power tilt/sliding panel are fully closed.
iMake sure you only touch recessed
sensor surfaceC.
XMake sure that all the side windows and the
sliding sunroof or panorama roof with
power tilt/sliding panel are closed.
On vehicles with a panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel:
XTouch recessed sensor surfaceCon the
door handle again until the roller sunblinds
of the panorama roof with power tilt/
sliding panel close.
XTo interrupt convenience closing:
release recessed sensor surfaceCon the
door handle.
Resetting the side windows
If a side window can no longer be closed fully,
you must reset it.
XClose all the doors.
XTurn the SmartKey to position1or2in the
ignition lock.
