Uniform Tire Quality GradingStandards
Auniform standard to grade the quality of
tireswithregards to treadquality,tire traction
and temperaturecharacteristics. Ratingsare
determinedbytire manufacturersusing U.S.
government testing procedures. The ratings
aremoldedinto the sidewall of the tire.
Recommendedtire pressure
The recommendedtire pressure appliesto
the tiresmounted at the factory.
The Tire and Loading Informationplacard
containsthe recommendedtirepressures for
cold tires onafully loaded vehicle and for the
maximum permissible vehicle speed.
The tirepressure table containsthe
recommendedpressures for cold tires for
various operating conditions, i.e. differing
load and speed conditions.
Increased vehicle weight duetooptional
equipment
This is the combined weight of all standard
and optional equipmentavailablefor the
vehicle, regardless of whetheritisactually
installed on the vehicle or not.
Rim
This is the part of the wheel on which the tire
is mounted.
GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating)
The GAWR is the maximum gross axle weight
rating. The actual load on an axle must never
exceed the gross axle weight rating. The
gross axle weight rating can be found on the
vehicle identification plate on the B-pillar on
the driver's side.
Speed rating
The speed rating is part of the tire
identification. It specifies the speed range for
which the tire is approved.
GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight)
The gross vehicle weight includes the weight
of the vehicle including fuel, tools, the spare
wheel, accessories installed, occupants,
luggage and the drawbarnoseweight, if
applicable. The gross vehicle weight must not
exceed the gross vehicle weight rating GVWR
as specified on the vehicle identification plate
on the B-pillar on the driver's side.
GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)
The GVWR is the maximum permissible gross
weight ofafully loaded vehicle (the weight of
the vehicle including all accessories,
occupants, fuel, luggage and the drawbar
noseweight, if applicable). The gross vehicle
weight rating is specified on the vehicle
identification plate on the B-pillar on the
driver's side.

Changingawheel
Flat tire
You can find information on whattodointhe
event ofaflat tire in the "Breakdown
assistance" section (Ypage 321).
Information on driving with MOExtended tires
in the event ofaflat tire can be found under
"MOExtended tires (tires with run-flat
characteristics" (Ypage 321).
Vehicle with emergency sparewheel:in
the event ofaflat tire, the emergencyspare
wheel is mounted as described under
"Mountingawheel" (Ypage 358).
Rotating the wheels
GWARNING
Interchangingthe front and rear wheels may
severely impair the driving characteristics if
the wheels or tires have different dimensions.
The wheel brakes or suspension components
may also be damaged. There isarisk of
accident.
Rotate front and rear wheels only if the wheels
and tires are of the same dimensions.
!On vehicles equipped withatire pressure
monitor, electronic components are
located in the wheel.
Tire-mounting tools should not be used
near the valve. This could damage the
electronic components.
Only have tires changed ataqualified
specialist workshop.
Always observe the instructions and safety
notes in the "Mountingawheel" section
(Ypage 358).
The wear patternsonthe front and rear tires
differ, depending on the operating conditions.
Rotate the wheels beforeaclear wear pattern
has formed on the tires. Front tires typically
wear more on the shoulders and the rear tires
in the center.
If your vehicle's tire configuration allows, you
can rotate the wheels according to the
intervals in the tire manufacturer's warranty
book in your vehicle documents. If this is not
available, the tires should then be replaced
every 3,000 to 6,000 miles (5,000 to
10,000 km), or earlier if the tire wear requires
this. Do not change the direction of wheel
rotation.
Cleanthe contact surfaces of the wheel and
the brake disc thoroughly every timeawheel
is interchanged. Check the tire pressure and,
if necessary, restart the tire pressure loss
warning system or the tire pressure monitor.
Direction of rotation
Tires withaspecified direction of rotation
have additional benefits, e.g. if there isarisk
of hydroplaning. You will only gain these
benefits if the correct direction of rotation is
maintained.
An arrow on the sidewall of the tire indicates
its correct direction of rotation.
Storing wheels
Storewheels that are not being used inacool,
dry and preferably dark place. Protect the
tires from oil, grease, gasoline and diesel.
Cleaningthe wheels

The water jet fromacircular jet nozzle (dirt

GWARNING
If you tighten the wheelbolts or wheelnuts
when the vehicleisraised, the jack couldtip
over. There isarisk of injury.
Only tighten the wheelbolts or wheelnuts
when the vehicleisonthe ground.
Always pay attention to the instructions and
safety notes in the "Changingawheel"
section (Ypage357).
Only use wheelbolts that have been designed
for the wheeland the vehicle. For safety
reasons, Mercedes-Benz recommends that
you only use wheelbolts which have been
approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles and the
respective wheel.
!AMG vehicle with ceramic brake
discs:during removaland repositioning of
the wheel, the wheelrim can strike the
ceramic-brake disc and damage it.
Therefore, take precautions and have a
second personassist you. Alternatively,
you can useasecond alignment bolt.
!To prevent damage to the paintwork, hold
the wheel securely against the wheel hub
while screwing in the first wheel bolt.
Positioningawheel (example: vehicle with anemergency spare wheel)
XCleanthe wheel and wheel hub contact
surfaces.
XSlide the wheel to be mounted onto the
alignment bolt and push it on.
XTighten the wheel bolts until they are
finger-tight.
XUnscrew the alignment bolt.
XTighten the last wheel bolt until it is finger-
tight.
XVehicles withacollapsible spare
wheel:inflate thecollapsible spare wheel
(Ypage 368).
Only then lower thevehicle.
Lowering thevehicle
GWARNING
The wheels could work loose if thewheel nuts
and boltsare not tightenedtothe specified
tightening torque. There isarisk of accident.
Have the tightening torque immediately
checked ataqualified specialist workshop
afterawheel is changed.
!Vehicles withacollapsible spare
wheel:before lowering thevehicle, inflate
thecollapsible spare wheel with thetire
inflationcompressor. The wheel rim could
otherwise be damaged.
Tighteningthe wheel nuts (example: vehicle withan emergencyspare wheel)
XTurn the crank of the jack counter-
clockwise until the vehicle is once again
standingfirmly on the ground.
XPlace the jack to one side.
XTighten the wheel bolts evenly in a
crosswise pattern in the sequence
indicated (to). The specified
tightening torque is96 lb-ft(130 Nm).
XTurn the jack back to its initial position.

Important safety notes
GWARNING
The wheelortire size as wellasthe tire type
of the spare wheeloremergency spare wheel
and the wheeltobereplaced may differ.
Mounting an emergency spare wheelmay
severely impair the driving characteristics.
There isarisk of an accident.
To avoidhazardoussituations:
Radapt yourdriving style accordingly and
drive carefully.
Rnever mount more than one spare wheelor
emergency spare wheelthat differs in size.
Ronly useaspare wheeloremergency spare
wheelofadifferent size briefly.
Rdo not switch ESP®off.
Rhaveaspare wheeloremergency spare
wheelofadifferent size replaced at the
nearest qualified specialist workshop.
Observe that the wheeland tire dimensions
as wellasthe tire type must be correct.
When using an emergency spare wheelor
spare wheelofadifferent size, you must not
exceed the maximumspeedof50mph
(80 km/h).
Snow chains must not be mounted on
emergency spare wheels.
General notes
You should regularlycheck the pressure of
the emergency spare wheel, particularlyprior
to long trips, and correct the pressure as
necessary (Ypage338). The applicable value
is found on the wheelorunder "Technical
data"(Ypage370).
An emergency spare wheelmay alsobe
mounted against the direction of rotation.
Observe the time restriction on use as wellas
the speedlimitation specified on the
emergency spare wheel.
Replace the tires after six years at the latest,
regardless of wear. This alsoappliestothe
emergency spare wheel.
iWhen you are driving with the collapsible
spare wheelmounted, the tire pressure
loss warning system or the tire pressure
monitor cannot function reliably. Only
restart the tire pressure loss warning
system/the tire pressure monitor when the
damaged wheelhas been replaced with a
new wheel.
Vehicles with tire pressure monitor:

The emergency spare wheel can be found in
the stowage well under the trunk floor.
XLift the trunk floor upwards (Ypage 283).
XTurn stowage traycounter-clockwise
and remove together with vehicle tool kit
tray.

Removing the collapsible sparewheel
(AMG vehicles)
The emergency spare wheel can be found in
the stowage wellunderthe trunk floor.
XLift the trunk floor upwards (Ypage 283).
XReach into cutoutin the tool holder and
lift it up.
XRemove collapsiblespare wheel.
Always observe the instructions and safety
notes in the "Mountingawheel" section
(Ypage 358).
Stowingaused collapsible spare
wheel
!Only place the collapsible spare wheel in
the vehicle when it is dry. Otherwise,
moisture may get into the vehicle.
Take the following steps to stowaused
collapsible spare wheel. It will not otherwise
install into the spare wheel well. Mercedes-
Benz recommends that you have this work
performed ataqualified specialist workshop,
e.g. at an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
XUnscrew the valve cap from the valve.
XUse the back of the valve cap to unscrew
the valve insert from the valve and release
the air.
iFully deflating the tires can takeafew
minutes.
XScrew the valve insert back into the valve.
XScrew the valve cap back on.
XRemove the protective sheet from the
vehicle tool kit and pull it over the
collapsible spare wheel.
XStow the collapsible spare wheel in the
emergency spare wheel well under the
trunk.
Inflating the collapsible sparewheel
!Inflate the collapsible spare wheel using
the tire inflation compressor before
lowering the vehicle. The wheel rim could
otherwise be damaged.

!Do not operate the tire inflation
compressor for longer than eight minutes
atatime withoutabreak. It may otherwise
overheat.
The tire inflation compressor can be
operated againonce it hascooleddown.
XMount the collapsiblespare wheelas
described (Ypage 357).
The collapsible spare wheel must be
mounted before it is inflated.
XPull connector!and the air hose out of
the housing.
XRemove the cap from the valve on the
collapsible spare wheel.
XScrew union nuton the air hose ontothe
valve.
XMake sure on/off switchof the tire
inflation compressor is set to0.
XInsert connector!intothe cigarette
lighter socket or intoa12Vsocket in your
vehicle.

sockets(Ypage 289).
XTurn the SmartKey to position1in the
ignition lock (Ypage 147).
XPress on/offswitchon thetireinflation
compressor toI.
The tireinflationcompressor is switched
on. The tire is inflated. The tire pressure is
shown on pressure gauge$.
XInflate the tire to the specified tire
pressure.
The specified tire pressure is printed on the
yellow label of the emergencyspare wheel.
XWhen the specified tire pressure has been
reached, press on/offswitchon the
electric air pump to0.
The tireinflationcompressor is switched
off.
XTurn the SmartKey to position0in the
ignition lock.
XIf the tire pressure is higher than the
specified pressure, press pressure release
buttonuntil the correcttire pressure has
been reached.
XUnscrew union nuton the air hose from
the valve.
XScrew the valve cap ontothe collapsible
spare wheel valve again.
XStow plug!and the air hose in the lower
section of the blower housing.
XStow the tire inflation compressor in the
vehicle.
