XTurn the SmartKey to position1or2in the
ignition lock.
XMake sure that the roller sunblinds are
open.
XPress or pull theswitch in the
corresponding direction.
iIf you press theswitch beyond the
point of resistance, an automatic opening/
closing process is started in the
corresponding direction.You can stop
automatic operation by operating the
switch again.
The automatic raising feature is available
only when the sliding sunroof is closed.
iYou can continue to operate the sliding
sunroof after switching off the engine or
removing the SmartKey from the ignition
lock. This function remains active for five
minutes or until you open a front door.
Operating the roller sunblinds for the
sliding sunroof
Important safety notes
GWARNING
When opening or closing the roller sunblind,
parts of the body could be trapped between
the roller sunblind and the frame or sliding
sunroof. There is a risk of injury.
When opening or closing make sure that no
parts of the body are in the sweep of the roller
sunblind.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the switch immediately, or
Rduring automatic operation, push the
switch briefly in any direction
The opening or closing procedure will be
stopped.
The roller sunblinds shield the vehicle interior
from sunlight. The two roller sunblinds can
only be opened and closed together when the
sliding sunroof is closed.
Roller sunblind reversing feature
The roller sunblinds are equipped with an
automatic reversing feature. If a solid object
blocks or restricts a roller sunblind during the
closing process, the roller sunblind opens
again automatically. However, the automatic
reversing feature is only an aid and does not
relieve you of the responsibility of paying
attention when closing the roller sunblinds.
GWARNING
The reversing feature does not react:
Rto soft, light and thin objects, e.g. small
fingers
Rwhen closing the roller sunblind again
manually immediately after automatic
reversing
This means that the reversing feature cannot
prevent someone being trapped in these
situations. There is a risk of injury.
When closing make sure that no parts of the
body are in the sweep of the roller sunblind.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the switch immediately, or
Rduring automatic operation, push the
switch briefly in any direction
The closing process is stopped.

Resetting the sliding sunroof and the

If the sliding sunroof or the roller sunblinds
do not move smoothly, reset the sliding
sunroof and the roller sunblinds:
XTurn the SmartKey to position1or2in the
ignition lock.
XPull theswitch repeatedly to the point
of resistance in the direction of arrow"
until the sliding sunroof is fully closed.
XKeep theswitch pulled for an
additional second.
XPull theswitch repeatedly to the point
of resistance in the direction of arrow"
until the roller sunblinds are fully closed.
XKeep theswitch pulled for an
additional second.
XMake sure that the sliding sunroof
(Ypage 86) and the roller sunblinds
(Ypage 87) can be fully opened and closed
again.
XIf this is not the case, repeat the steps
above again.
Problems with the sliding sunroof
GWARNING
If you do not reset the sliding sunroof after a
malfunction or voltage supply interruption,
then the backing up function will malfunction
or not work. The sliding sunroof closes with
increased or maximum force. Parts of the
body could be trapped in the closing area in
the process. This poses an increased risk of
injury or even fatal injury.
In such or similar situations always make sure
that no parts of the body are in the closing
area. Always reset the sliding sunroof after a
malfunction or voltage supply interruption.
!If the sliding sunroof still cannot be
opened or closed as a result of a
malfunction, contact a qualified specialist
workshop.
Problem: the sunroof cannot be closed
and you cannot see the cause.If the sliding
sunroof is obstructed during closing and
reopens again slightly:
XImmediately after it blocks, pull the
switch down again to the point of
resistance until the sliding sunroof is
closed
The sliding sunroof is closed with increased
force.
If the sliding sunroof is obstructed again
during closing and then reopens slightly:
XImmediately after it blocks, pull the
switch down again to the point of
resistance until the sliding sunroof is
closed
The sliding sunroof is closed without the
anti-entrapment feature.

Opening and closing

XTurn the SmartKey to position1or2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 137).
XPress buttonfor the left-hand exterior
mirror or buttonfor the right-hand
exterior mirror.
The indicator lamp in the corresponding
button lights up in red.
The indicator lamp goes out again after
some time. You can adjust the selected
mirror using adjustment button"as long
as the indicator lamp is lit.
XPress adjustmentbutton"up, down, or
to the left or right until you have adjusted
the exterior mirror to the correct position.
You should have a good overview of traffic
conditions.
The convex exteriormirrors provide a larger
field of vision.
The exterior mirrors are automatically heated
after starting the vehicle if the rear window
defroster is switched on and the outside
temperature is low. Heating takes a maximum
of 10 minutes.
iYou can also heat up the exterior mirrors
manually by switching on the rear window
defroster.
Folding the exterior mirrors in or out
electrically
XTurn the SmartKey to position1or2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 137).
XBriefly press button.
Both exterior mirrors fold in or out.
iMake sure that the exterior mirrors are
always folded out fully while driving. They
could otherwise vibrate.
iIf you are driving faster than 30 mph
(47 km/h), you can no longer fold in the
exterior mirrors.
Setting the exterior mirrors
If the battery has been disconnected or
completely discharged, the exterior mirrors
must be reset.The exterior mirrors will
otherwise not fold in when you select the
"Fold in mirrors when locking" function in the
on-board computer (Ypage 209).
XTurn the SmartKey to position1in the
ignition lock (Ypage 137).
XBriefly press button.
Folding the exterior mirrors in or out
automatically
If the "Fold in mirrors when locking" function
is activated in the on-board computer
(Ypage 209):
Rthe exterior mirrors fold in automatically as
soon as you lock the vehicle from the
outside.
Rthe exterior mirrors fold out again
automatically as soon as you unlock the
vehicle and then open the driver's or front-
passenger door.
iIf the exterior mirrors have been folded in
manually, they do not fold out.
Exterior mirror pushed out of position
If an exterior mirror has been pushed out of
position, proceed as follows:
XVehicles without electrically folding
exterior mirrors:move the exterior mirror
into the correct position manually.
XVehicles with electrically folding
exterior mirrors:press and hold mirror-
folding button (Ypage 98) until you hear a

XPress memory buttonM!and one of the
arrows on adjustment button"within
three seconds.
The parking position is stored if the exterior
mirror does not move.
XIf the mirror moves out of position, repeat
the steps.
Calling up a stored parking position

passenger side with the corresponding
button (Ypage 97).
XEngage reverse gear.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side moves to the stored parking position.

side moves back to its original position:

(15 km/h)
Rabout ten seconds after you have
disengaged reverse gear
Rif you press buttonfor the exterior
mirror on the driver's side
Memory functions
Storing settings
GWARNING
If you use the memoryfunctiononthe driver's
side while driving, you could lose control of
the vehicle as a result of the adjustments
being made. There is a risk of an accident.
Only use the memory function on the driver's
side when the vehicle is stationary.
GWARNING
When the memory function adjusts the seat,
you and other vehicle occupants–particularly
children–could become trapped. There is a
risk of injury.
While the memory function is making
adjustments, make sure that no one has any
body parts in the sweep of the seat. If
somebody becomes trapped, immediately
release the memory function position button.
The adjustmentprocess is stopped.
GWARNING
Children could become trapped if they
activate the memory function, particularly
when unattended.There isarisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
With the memory function, you can store up
to three different settings, e.g. for three
differentpeople.
The following settings are stored as a single
memory preset:
Rposition of the seat, backrest and head
restraint
Rdriver's side: position of the exterior
mirrors on the driver's and front-passenger
sides
XAdjust the seat (Ypage 93).
XAdjust the exterior mirror on the driver's
side (Ypage 97).
XBriefly press theMmemory button and
then press storage position button1,2or
3within three seconds.
The settings are stored in the selected
preset position.Atone sounds when the
settings have been completed.

Automatic headlamp mode
GWARNING
When the lightswitch is set to, the low-
beam headlamps may not be switched on
automatically if there is fog, snow or other
causes of poor visibility due to the weather
conditions such as spray. There is a risk of an
accident.
In such situations, turnthe light switch to
.
The automatic headlamp feature is only an
aid. The driver is responsible for the vehicle's
lighting at all times.
is the favored light switch setting. The
light setting is automatically selected
according to the brightness of the ambient
light (exception: poor visibility due to weather
conditions such as fog, snow or spray):
RSmartKey in position1in the ignition lock:
the parking lamps are switched on or off
automatically depending on the brightness
of the ambient light.
RWith the engine running: if you have
activated the daytime running lamps
function via the on-board computer, the
daytime running lamps or the low-beam
headlamps and parking lamps are switched
on or off automatically depending on the
brightness of the ambient light.
XTo switch on automatic headlamp
mode:turn the light switch to.
The daytime running lamps improve the
visibility of your vehicle during the day. The
daytime running lamps function is required by
law in Canada.
When the engine is running and the vehicle is
stationary: if you move the selector lever from
a drive position toP, the daytime running
lamps/low-beam headlamps go out after
three minutes.
When the engine is running, the vehicle is
stationary and in high ambient light: if you
turn the light switch to, you turn on the
daytime running lamps and parking lamps.
If the engine is running and you turn the light
switch to, the manual settings take
precedence over the daytime running lamps.
Low-beam headlamps
Even if the light sensor does not detect that
it is dark, the parking lamps and low-beam
headlamps switch on when the ignition is
switched on and the light switch is set to the
position. This is a particularly useful
function in the event of rain and fog.
XTo switch on the low-beam headlamps:
turn the SmartKey in the ignition lock to
position2or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch to.
The greenindicator lamp in the
instrumentcluster lights up.
Front fog lamps
In conditions where visibility is poor due to
fog, snow or rain, the fog lamps improve
visibility as well as making it easier for other
road users to see you. They can be operated
together with the parking lamps or together
with the parking lamps and low-beam
headlamps.
XTo switch on the front fog lamps:turn
the SmartKey in the ignition lock to position
2or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch toor.
XPress the\rbutton.
The green\rindicator lamp in the
instrumentcluster lights up.
XTo switch off the front fog lamps:press
the\rbutton.
The green\rindicator lamp in the
instrumentcluster goes out.
Only vehicles with front fog lamps are
equipped with the "fog lamp" function;
information on the fog lamp function for
vehicles with Intelligent Light System
(Ypage 108).

Rear fog lamp
The rearfog lamp improves visibility of your
vehicle for the traffic behind in the event of
thick fog. Please take note of the country-
specific regulations for the use of rear fog
lamps.
XTo switch on the rear fog lamps:turn the
SmartKey in the ignition lock to position2
or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch toor.
XPress thebutton.
The yellowindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster lights up.
XTo switch off the rear fog lamp:press the
button.
The yellowindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster goes out.
iWhen the rear fog lamp is switched on,
the center brake lamp in the tail lamp
switches off due to a legal requirement.
Parking lamps
!If the battery has been excessively
discharged, the parking lamps or standing
lamps are automatically switched off to
enable the next engine start.Always park
your vehicle safely and sufficiently lit
according to legal standards. Avoid the
continuous use of theparking lamps
for several hours. If possible, switch on the
right or theleft standing lamp.
XTo switch on:turn the light switch to
.

instrumentcluster lights up.
Standing lamps
Switching on the standinglamps ensures the
corresponding side of the vehicle is
illuminated.
XTo switch on the standing lamps:the
SmartKey is not in the ignition lock or it is
in position0.
XTurn the light switch to(left-hand side
of the vehicle) or(right-hand side of
the vehicle).

dark and the engine is running.
The blueindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster lights up when the high-
beam headlamps are switched on.
XTo switch off the high-beam
headlamps:move the combination switch
back to its normal position.
The blueindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster goes out.
iVehicles with Adaptive Highbeam Assist:
when Adaptive Highbeam Assist is active,
it controls activation of the high-beam
headlamps (Ypage 108).
High-beam flasher
XTo switch on:turn the SmartKey in the
ignition lock to position1or2or start the
engine.
XPull the combination switch in the direction
of arrow".
Hazard warning lamps
The hazard warning lamps automatically
switch on if:
Ran air bag is deployed
Rthe vehicle decelerates rapidly from a
speed of more than 45mph(70 km/h) and
comes to a standstill
XTo switch on the hazard warning lamps:
press button.
All turn signals flash. If you now switch on
a turn signal using the combination switch,
only the turn signal lamp on the
corresponding side of the vehicle will flash.
XTo switch off the hazard warning
lamps:press button.
The hazard warning lamps switch off
automatically if the vehicle reaches a speed
of over 6mph (10km/h) again after a full
brake application.
iThe hazard warning lamps still operate if
the ignition is switched off.
Headlamp cleaning system
The headlamps are cleaned automatically if
the "Wipe with washer fluid" function is
operated five times while the lights are on and
the engine is running (Ypage 115). When you
switch off the ignition, the automatic
headlamp cleaning system is reset and
counting is resumed from 0.
Cornering light function
The cornering light function improves the
illumination of the road over a wide angle in
the direction you are turning, enabling better
visibility in tight bends, for example. The
cornering light function can only be activated
whenthe low-beam headlamps are switched
on.

Active:
Rif you are driving at speeds below 25 mph
(40 km/h) and switch on the turnsignal or
turnthe steering wheel.
Rif you are driving at speeds between
25 mph(40 km/h) and 45 mph(70 km/h)
and turn the steering wheel.
Not active:if you are driving at speeds above
25 mph (40 km/h) or switch off the turn
signal or turn the steering wheel to the
straight-ahead position.
The cornering lamp may remain lit for a short
time, but is automatically switched off after
no more than three minutes.
Extended range fog lamps
The extended range fog lamps reduce the
glare experienced by the driverand improve
the illuminationofthe edge of the road.
Active:if you are driving at speeds below
40 mph (70 km/h) and you switch on the rear
fog lamp.
Not active:if, following activation, you are
driving at speeds above 60 mph (100 km/h)
or if you switch off the rear fog lamp.
Adaptive Highbeam Assist
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Adaptive Highbeam Assist does not recognize
road users:
Rwho have no lights, e.g. pedestrians
Rwho have poor lighting, e.g. cyclists
Rwhose lighting is blocked, e.g. by a barrier
In very rare cases, Adaptive Highbeam Assist
may fail to recognize other road users that
have lights, or may recognize them too late.
In this or similar situations, the automatic
high-beam headlamps will not be deactivated
or activated regardless. There is a risk of an
accident.
Always carefully observe the traffic conditions
and switch off the high-beam headlamps in
good time.
Adaptive Highbeam Assist cannot take into
account road, weather or traffic conditions.
Adaptive Highbeam Assist is only an aid. You
are responsible for adjusting the vehicle's
lighting to the prevailing light, visibility and
traffic conditions.
In particular, the detection of obstacles can
be restricted if there is:
Rpoor visibility, e.g. due to fog, heavy rain or
snow
Rdirt on the sensors or the sensors are
obscured
General notes
You can use this function to set the
headlamps to change between low beam and
high beam automatically.The system
recognizes vehicles with their lights on, either
approaching from the opposite direction or
traveling in front of your vehicle, and
consequently switches the headlamps from
high beam to low beam.
The system automatically adapts the low-
beam headlamp range depending on the
distance to the other vehicle. Once the
