If you pull on the handle of the trunk lid, only
the trunk of the vehicle is unlocked. Changing the settings of the locking
system
You can change the settings of the locking
system in such a way that only the driver's
door and the fuel filler flap are unlocked. This
is useful if you frequently travel on your own.
X To change the setting: press the%
and & buttons until the battery check
lamp ( Ypage 78) flashes twice.
The SmartKey now functions as follows:
X To unlock the driver's door: press the
% button once.
X To unlock centrally: press the%
button twice.
X To lock centrally: press the&button. The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as
follows:
X
To unlock the driver' sdoor :pull the door
handle on the driver's door.
X To unlock centrally: pull the door handle
on the front-passenger door.
X To lock centrally: touch the outer sensor
surface on one of the door handles. Restoring the factory settings
X Press the %and& buttons
simultaneously for approximately six
seconds until the battery check lamp

General notes If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the driver's door or the trunk lid, the
anti-thef
talarm system will be triggered
(Y page 70).
There are several ways to tur noff the alarm:
X To stop the alarm with the SmartKey:
press the %or& button on the
SmartKey.
or
X Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
or
X To stop the alarm with KEYLESS-GO:
press the Start/Stop button in the ignition
lock. The SmartKey must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The SmartKey must be outside the

Remove the cover of the battery tray.
X Repeatedly tap the SmartKey against your
palm until battery =falls out.
X Insert the new battery with the positive
pole facing upwards. Use alint-free cloth to
do so.
X Make sure that the battery surface is free
of lint, grease, or other dirt.
X Insert the front tabs of the battery tray's
cover first and then press to close it.
X Replace the mechanical key in the
SmartKey.
X Check the function of all SmartKey buttons

Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
You can open a door from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked.
Open the door only when the traffic
conditions permit.
If the vehicle has been opened with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO key, opening from
inside triggers the anti-theft alarm system.
Switch off the alarm (Y page 70).X
Pull door handle ;.
If the door is locked, locking knob :pops
up. The door is unlocked and can be
opened.
i When a door is opened, the side window
on that side opens slightly. When the door
is closed, the side window closes again.
! The side windows will not open/close if
the battery is discharged or if the side
windows have iced up. It will then not be
possible to close the door. Do not attempt
to force the door closed. You could
otherwise damage the door or the side
window. Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle
from the inside. This feature may be useful if,
for example, you wish to unlock the front-
passenger door from the inside or lock the
vehicle before you pull away. The locking or unlocking buttons of the
central locking do not lock or unlock the fuel
filler flap.
X
To lock: press button ;.
The vehicle locks when all front-passenger
doors are closed.
X To unlock: press button :.
You can open a locked door from inside the
vehicle. Open the door only when the traffic
conditions permit.
If the vehicle has been locked with the central
locking button:
R and the SmartKey is restored to the factory
settings, the entire vehicle is unlocked if a
door is opened from inside the vehicle.
R and the SmartKey is set to individual
settings, only the door that is opened from
inside the vehicle is unlocked.
If the vehicle has been locked centrally with
the SmartKey or with KEYLESS-GO, it does
not unlock if you use the unlocking button of
the central locking. Automatic locking feature
The vehicle locks automatically when the
ignition is switched on and the wheels of the
vehicle are moving at a speed of more than
9 mph (15 km/h). You may therefore lock
yourself out if the vehicle is being pushed,
towed, or located on a test rig.
