Problems with the sliding sunroof
G
WARNING
If you do not reset the sliding sunroof after a malfunction or voltage supply interruption, then the
reversing function will malfunction or not work. The sliding sunroof closes with increased or
maximum force. Parts of the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of injury or even fatal injury.
In such or similar situations always make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area.
Always reset the sliding sunroof after a malfunction or voltage supply interruption. Problem

Useful information
i This Owner's Manual describes all mod-
els, series and optional equipment for your
vehicle that were available at the time of
going to press. National variations are pos- sible. Note that your vehicle may not be
equipped with all of the functions descri-
bed. This is also the case for systems and
functions relevant to safety.
i Read the information on qualified special-
ist workshops: (Y page 24). Overview of climate control systems
General notes
Observe the settings recommended on the
following pages. The windows could other-
wise mist up.
To prevent the windows from misting up:
R switch off climate control only briefly
R switch on air-recirculation mode only
briefly
R switch on the cooling with air dehumidifi-
cation function
R switch on the windscreen demisting func-
tion briefly, if required
The air-conditioning system/
THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control
regulates the temperature and the humidity
of the vehicle interior and filters undesirable
substances from the air.
The air-conditioning system/
THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control
can only be operated when the engine is run-
ning. Optimum operation is only achieved
with the side windows and panorama sliding
sunroof closed.
The residual heat function can only be acti-
vated or deactivated with the ignition
switched off (Y page 149).
Always keep the ventilation flaps behind the
side panelling clear (Y page 131). Otherwise
the vehicle will not be ventilated correctly. i
Ventilate the vehicle for a brief period
during warm weather, e.g. using the con-
venience opening feature (Y page 99). This
will speed up the cooling process and the
desired interior temperature will be
reached more quickly.
i The integrated filter filters out most par-
ticles of dust and soot and completely fil-
ters out pollen. With THERMOTRONIC auto- matic climate control, gaseous pollutants
and odours will also be reduced. A clogged
filter reduces the amount of air supplied to
the vehicle interior. For this reason, you
should always observe the interval for
replacing the filter, which is specified in the Service Booklet. As this depends on envi-
ronmental conditions, e.g. heavy air pollu-
tion, the interval may be shorter than statedin the Service Booklet.
i Under certain environmental conditions,
the residual heat function may be activated
automatically an hour after the key has
been removed in order to dry the automatic climate control. The vehicle is then ventila-
ted for 30 minutes. 138

Possible causes/consequences and
M
MSolutions The rear window heat-
ing has switched off
prematurely or cannot
be activated. The battery has not been sufficiently charged.
X Switch off any consumers that are not required, e.g. reading
lamps, interior lighting or the seat heating.
When the battery is sufficiently charged, the rear window heat- ing can be activated again. Activating/deactivating air-recircula-
tion mode
General notes You can deactivate the flow of fresh air if
unpleasant odours are entering the vehicle
from outside. The air already inside the vehi-
cle will then be recirculated.
If you activate air-recirculation mode, the win-
dows can mist up more quickly, in particular
at low temperatures. Only use air-recircula-
tion mode briefly to prevent the windows
misting up.
The operation of air-recirculation mode is the same for all control panels.
Switching on/off X
Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock (Y page 159).
X To activate: press theebutton.
The indicator lamp in the ebutton lights
up.
Air-recirculation mode is activated automati-
cally:
R at high outside temperatures
R at high levels of pollution
When air-recirculation mode is activated
automatically, the indicator lamp in the e
button is not lit. Outside air is added after
about 30 minutes.
X To deactivate: press theebutton.
The indicator lamp in the ebutton goes
out. i
Air-recirculation mode is deactivated
automatically:
R after approximately five minutes at out-
side temperatures below approximately
7 †
R after approximately five minutes if the
"Cooling with air dehumidification" func-
tion is deactivated
R after approximately 30 minutes at out-
side temperatures above approximately
7 † if the cooling with air dehumidifica-
tion function is activated Convenience opening/closing using

heat function
General notes The residual heat function is only available
with THERMOTRONIC automatic climate con-
trol.
It is possible to make use of the residual heat of the engine to continue heating the vehicle
for approximately 30 minutes after the engine
has been switched off. The heating time
depends on the set interior temperature.
i The blower will run at a low speed regard-
less of the airflow setting.
i If you activate the residual heat function
at high temperatures, only the ventilation
will be activated. The blower runs at
medium speed.
i You cannot use the ventilation to cool the

Important safety notes G
WARNING
When a load is transported on the roof, the
vehicle's centre of gravity rises and the han-
dling changes. If you exceed the maximum
roof load, the handling as well as steering and braking characteristics are severely affected.
There is a risk of an accident.
Always observe the maximum roof load and
adapt your driving style.
! Mercedes-Benz recommends that you
only use roof carriers that have been tested and approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
This helps to prevent damage to the vehi-
cle.
Position the load on the roof carrier in such
a way that the vehicle will not sustain dam-
age even when it is in motion.
Ensure that, depending on the vehicle's
equipment, you can raise the panorama
sliding sunroof fully and open the tailgate
fully when the roof carrier is fitted.
You will find information on the maximum roof
load in the "Technical data" section
(Y page 393).
An incorrectly secured roof carrier or roof
load may become detached from the vehicle.
You must therefore ensure that you observe
the roof carrier manufacturer's installation
instructions.

tion 0.
The vehicle could otherwise be damaged.
You can wash the vehicle in an automatic car wash from the very start.
Wash off excess dirt before cleaning the vehi-
cle in an automatic car wash.
After using an automatic car wash, wipe off
wax from the windscreen and the wiper
blades. This will prevent smears and reduce
wiping noises caused by residue on the wind- screen.
Washing by hand In some countries, washing by hand is only
allowed at specially equipped washing bays.
Observe the legal requirements for each indi-
vidual country. X
Do not use hot water and do not wash the
vehicle in direct sunlight.
X Use a soft sponge to clean.
X Use a mild cleaning agent, such as a car
shampoo approved by Mercedes-Benz.
X Thoroughly hose down the vehicle with a
gentle jet of water.
X Do not point the water jet directly towards
the air inlet.
X Use plenty of water and rinse out the
sponge frequently.
X Rinse the vehicle with clean water and dry
thoroughly with a chamois.
X Do not let the cleaning agent dry on the
paintwork.
When using the vehicle in winter, remove all
traces of road salt deposits carefully and as
soon as possible.
