NOTE
 y Switching the auto-wiper lever from the
to the position while driving
activates the windshield wipers once,
after which they operate according to
the rainfall amount.
 y  The auto-wiper control may not operate
when the rain sensor temperature is
about -10 °C (14 °F) or lower, or about
85 °C (185 °F) or higher.
 y If the windshield is coated with water
repellent, the rain sensor may not be
able to sense the amount of rainfall
correctly and the auto-wiper control
may not operate properly.
 y If dirt or foreign matter (such as ice or
matter containing salt water) adheres
to the windshield above the rain sensor,
or if the windshield is iced, it could
cause the wipers to move automatically.
However, if the wipers cannot remove
this ice, dirt or foreign matter, the auto-
wiper control will stop operation. In
this case, set the wiper lever to the low
speed position or high speed position
for manual operation, or remove the
ice, dirt or foreign matter by hand to
restore the auto-wiper operation.
 y If the auto-wiper lever is left in the
position, the wipers could
operate automatically from the effect of
strong light sources, electromagnetic
waves, or infrared light because the
rain sensor uses an optical sensor. It is
recommended that the auto-wiper lever
be switched to the
position other
than when driving the vehicle under
rainy conditions.
 y  The auto-wiper control functions can
be turned off. Refer to Personalization
Features on page 9-12 .
Windshield Washer
Pull the lever toward you and hold it to
spray washer fl uid.

Horn
To sound the horn, press the mark on
the steering wheel.
Hazard Warning Flasher
The hazard warning lights should always
be used when you stop on or near a
roadway in an emergency.
The hazard warning lights warn other
drivers that your vehicle is a traffi c hazard
and that they must take extreme caution
when near it.
Depress the hazard warning fl asher and
all the turn signals will fl ash. The hazard
warning indicator lights in the instrument
cluster fl ash simultaneously.
NOTE
 y The turn signals do not work when the
hazard warning lights are on.
 y Check local regulations about the use
of hazard warning lights while the
vehicle is being towed to verify that it is
not in violation of the law.

WARNING
Do not rely completely on Hill Launch
Assist (HLA): Hill Launch Assist (HLA) is an auxiliary
device for accelerating from a stop
on a slope. The system only operates
for about two seconds and therefore,
relying only on the system, when
accelerating from a stop is dangerous
because the vehicle may move (roll)
unexpectedly and cause an accident.
The vehicle could roll depending on
the vehicle's load or if it is towing
something. In addition, for vehicles
with a manual transaxle, the vehicle
could still roll depending on how the
clutch pedal or the accelerator pedal is
operated.
Always confi rm the safety around the
vehicle before starting to drive the
vehicle.
NOTE
 y Hill Launch Assist (HLA) does not
operate on a gentle slope. In addition,
the gradient of the slope on which the
system will operate changes depending
on the vehicle's load.
 y Hill Launch Assist (HLA) does not
operate if the parking brake is applied,
the vehicle has not stopped completely,
or the clutch pedal is released.
 y While Hill Launch Assist (HLA) is
operating, the brake pedal may feel
stiff and vibrate, however, this does not
indicate a malfunction.
 y Hill Launch Assist (HLA) does not
operate while the TCS/DSC indicator
light is illuminated.
 Refer to Warning/Indicator Lights on page 4-21 .
 y Hill Launch Assist (HLA) does not
turn off even if the DSC OFF switch is
pressed to turn off the TCS/DSC.

 y Heavy luggage is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat. y When there is the possibility of partial contact with a vehicle or obstruction ah\
ead. y When driving on continuously curving roads, entering and exiting curves, and unstable
driving due to a vehicle accident or breakdown in a driving lane.
 y Elongated luggage or cargo is loaded onto installed roof rails and covers the laser
sensor.
 y Exhaust gas from the vehicle in front, sand, snow, and water vapor rising from
manholes and grating, and water splashed into the air.
 y When towing a malfunctioning vehicle.
 y In the following cases, the laser sensor may inadvertently determine tha\
t there is a
vehicle ahead and the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system may opera\
te.
 y Objects on the road at the entrance to a curve. y Vehicles passing in the opposite lane while making a curve. y Metal objects, bumps, or protruding objects on the road. y When passing through a toll gate. y When passing under a vinyl curtain or fl ag. y Plastic objects such as pylons. y Two-wheeled vehicles, pedestrians, animals or standing trees.
 y If the vehicle is driven with some of the tires having signifi cant wear, the system may not
operate correctly. If the tires are returned to a normal state and the Smart City Brake
Support (SCBS) indicator light still illuminates, have your vehicle in\
spected by an
Authorized Mazda Dealer.
 y When the system operates, the user is notifi ed by the fl ashing warning light and the active
driving display * . y The indicator light turns on when the system has a malfunction. Refer to Warning Lights on page 4-22 .

Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) System
NOTE
 y The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) does not operate when the vehicle spee\
d is lower than
about 10 km/h (6.2 mph).
 y The detection area of the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) has been determined based on
the lane width of general freeways. Therefore on a road with a narrower lane width, the
system may detect vehicles on a lane next to the adjacent lane and opera\
te the warning
light/beep. On a road with wider lane width, the system may not detect vehicles on the
adjacent lane and may not operate the warning light/beep.
 y Under the following conditions, the system may be unable to detect vehic\
les, or detection
may be delayed.
 y The vehicle accelerates from a standing-start with a vehicle alongside. y A vehicle moves from a lane two lanes over to the adjacent lane. y The difference in vehicle speed between your vehicle and another vehicle is larger
when passing or being passed, and the vehicle passes the detection area within a short
period of time.
 y On a steep incline, or when there is a difference in height between lanes. y Immediately after the system has been activated by pressing the Blind Spot Monitoring
(BSM) OFF switch again after it has been turned off (Blind Spot Monit\
oring (BSM)
OFF indicator light in instrument cluster illuminates) by pressing the switch.
 y(Automatic transaxle vehicles) The shift lever is shifted to the R position, or directly after being shifted from the R
position.
 y The system may not operate normally when towing a trailer. Turn off the system by
operating the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) OFF switch when towing a tra\
iler.
 y The system switches to the Rear Cross Traffi c Alert function when the shift lever (Manual
transaxle) or the selector lever (Automatic transaxle) is shifted to \
the R position.

Multipath noise
Since FM signals can be refl ected by
obstructions, it is possible to receive both
the direct signal and the refl ected signal
at the same time. This causes a slight
delay in reception and may be heard as a
broken sound or a distortion. This problem
may also be encountered when in close
proximity to the transmitter.
Reflected wave
Direct
Flutter/Skip noise
Signals from an FM transmitter move in
straight lines and become weak in valleys
between tall buildings, mountains, and
other obstacles. When a vehicle passes
through such an area, the reception
conditions may change suddenly, resulting
in annoying noise.
Weak signal noise
In suburban areas, broadcast signals
become weak because of distance from the
transmitter. Reception in such fringe areas
is characterized by sound breakup.
Strong signal noise
This occurs very close to a transmitter
tower. The broadcast signals are extremely
strong, so the result is noise and sound
breakup at the radio receiver.
Station drift noise
When a vehicle reaches the area of two
strong stations broadcasting at similar
frequencies, the original station may be
temporarily lost and the second station
picked up. At this time there will be some
noise from this disturbance.
