■Conditions under which the Rear Crossing Traffic Alert function will not detect a vehi-
cle
The Rear Crossing Traffic Alert function is not designed to detect the following types of
vehicles and/or objects.
●Small motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians etc.*
●Vehicles approaching from directly behind
●Guardrails, walls, signs, parked vehicles and similar stationary objects*
●Vehicles moving away from your vehicle
●Vehicles approaching from the parking spaces next to your vehicle*
●Vehicles backing up in the parking space next to your vehicle
*: Depending on conditions, detection of a vehicle and/or object may occur.
■Conditions under which the Rear Crossing Traffic Alert function may not function cor-
rectly
The Rear Crossing Traffic Alert function may not detect vehicles correctly in the follow-
ing conditions:
●During bad weather such as heavy rain, fog, snow etc.
●When ice or mud etc. is attached to the rear bumper
●When multiple vehicles approach continuously
●Shallow angle parking
●When a vehicle is approaching at high speed
●When parking on a steep incline, such as hills, a dip in the road etc.
●Directly after the BSM main switch is set to on
●When your vehicle is towing a trailer
●Directly after the engine is started with the BSM main switch on
●Vehicles that the sensors cannot detect
because of obstacles

●The rear sunshade can be used when the engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
●The rear sunshade can be operated for approximately 1 minute even after the engine
switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off.
●Reverse operation feature: To ensure adequate rear visibility, the rear sunshade auto-
matically lowers when the shift lever is shifted to R.
However, the rear sunshade is raised again if any of the following occurs:
• The button is pressed again.
*• The shift lever is shifted into P.
• The shift lever is shifted out of R, and the vehicle reaches a speed of 15 km/h (9
mph).
If the engine is off when the rear sunshade has been lowered due to the reverse opera-
tion feature, it will not be raised even when the engine is turned on again and the vehi-
cle reaches a speed of 15 km/h (9 mph). To raise the sunshade again, press the button.
*: Occasionally, the reverse function may not be carried out after the switch has been
pressed. Repeat the above operation to operate the function.
CAUTION
When the rear sunshade is being operated, do not place fingers or other objects in the
fastener section or in the opening. They may get caught, causing injury.
NOTICE
●To prevent battery discharge, do not operate the rear sunshade when the engine is
off.
●Observe the following precautions to ensure normal operation of the rear sunshade.
• Do not place excessive load on the motor or other components of the rear sun-
shade.
• Do not place objects where they may hinder opening and closing operations.
• Do not attach items to the rear sunshade.
• Keep the opening clean and clear of obstructions.
• Do not operate the rear sunshade continuously for long periods of time.

When trouble arises
IS250_EE(OM53C51E)
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
●The engine may be flooded.
Try to restart the engine again following correct starting procedures.
(→P. 1 9 2 )
●There may be a malfunction in the engine immobilizer system.
(→P. 77)
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
●The battery may be discharged. (→P. 5 2 7 )
The engine starting system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical problem
such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. However, an interim
measure is available to start the engine. (→P. 522)
If the engine will not start
If the engine will not start even though correct starting procedures are being
followed (→P. 192), consider each of the following points:
The engine will not start even though the starter motor operates nor-
mally.
The starter motor turns over slowly, the interior lights and headlights
are dim, or the horn does not sound or sounds at a low volume.
The starter motor does not turn over

IS250_EE(OM53C51E)
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●One or both of the battery terminals may be disconnected.
●The battery may be discharged. (→P. 5 2 7 )
●There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional if the problem cannot be repaired, or if repair procedures are
unknown.
When the engine does not start, the following steps can be used as an interim
measure to start the engine if the engine switch is functioning normally:
Set the parking brake.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Turn the engine switch to ACCESSORY mode.
Press and hold the engine switch for about 15 seconds while depressing the
brake pedal firmly.
Even if the engine can be started using the above steps, the system may be mal-
functioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
The starter motor does not turn over, the interior lights and headlights
do not turn on, or the horn does not sound.

on the dipstick.
■Engine oil selection
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Lexus vehicle. Lexus recom-
mends the use of approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil”. Another motor oil of
matching quality can also be used.
Oil grade:
0W-20, 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30:
API grade SL “Energy-Conserving”, SM “Energy-Conserving” or SN
“Resource-Conserving”; or ILSAC multigrade engine oil
1 5 W- 4 0 a n d 2 0 W- 5 0 :
API grade SL, SM or SN multigrade engine oil
Recommended viscosity (SAE):
SAE 0W-20 is filled into your Lexus
vehicle at manufacturing, and the
best choice for good fuel economy
and good starting in cold weather.
If SAE 0W-20 oil is not available,
SAE 5W-30 oil may be used. How-
ever, it should be replaced with SAE
0W-20 at the next oil change.
If you use SAE 10W-30 or a higher
viscosity engine oil in extremely low
temperatures, the engine may
become difficult to start, so SAE
0 W-20, 5W-20 or 5W-30 engine
oil is recommended.
