Immobilizer system
The indicator light flashes after the
power switch has been turned off to
indicate that the system is operating.
The indicator light stops flashing after
the power switch has been turned to
ACCESSORY or ON mode to indi-
cate that the system has been canceled.
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type immobilizer system.
■Conditions that may cause the system to malfunction
●If the grip portion of the key is in contact with a metallic object
●If the key is in close proximity to or touching a key registered to the security system (key
with a built-in transponder chip) of another vehicle
The vehicle’s keys have built-in transp onder chips that prevent the hybrid sys-
tem from starting if a key has not been previously registered in the vehicle’s
on-board computer.
Never leave the keys inside the vehicle when you leave the vehicle.
This system is designed to help prev ent vehicle theft but does not guarantee
absolute security against all vehicle thefts.

■Alarms and warning messages
An alarm sounds and warning message displays shown on the multi-information display
are used to protect against unexpected accidents or theft of the vehicle resulting from
erroneous operation. When a warning message is displayed, take appropriate measures
based on the displayed message. ( →P. 5 2 1 )
When only an alarm sounds, circumstances and correction procedures are as follows.
■Battery-saving function (vehicles with entry function)
The battery-saving function will be activated in order to prevent the electronic key bat-
tery and the 12-volt battery from being discha rged while the vehicle is not in operation
for a long time.
●In the following situations, the smart entry & start system may take some time to unlock
the doors.
• The electronic key has been left in an area of approximately 2 m (6 ft.) of the outside
of the vehicle for 10 minutes or longer.
• The smart entry & start system has not been used for 5 days or longer.
●If the smart entry & start system has not been used for 14 days or longer, the doors can-
not be unlocked at any doors except the driver’s door. In this case, take hold of the
driver’s door handle, or use the wireless remote control or the mechanical key, to
unlock the doors.
■Conditions affecting operation
The smart entry & start system, wireless re mote control and immobilizer system use
weak radio waves. In the following situations, the communication between the electronic
key and the vehicle may be affected, preventing the smart entry & start system, wireless
remote control and immobilizer sy stem from operating properly.
(Ways of coping: →P. 565)
●When the electronic key battery is depleted
●Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large display, airport or
other facility that generates strong radio waves or electrical noise
●When carrying a portable radio, cellular ph one, cordless phone or other wireless com-
munication devices

■Auto power off function
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minutes or ON mode (the
hybrid system is not operating) for more than an hour with the shift position in P, the
power switch will automatically turn off. However, this function cannot entirely prevent
the 12-volt battery discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the power switch in ACCES-
SORY or ON mode for long periods of time when the hybrid system is not operating.
■Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle
→ P. 7 3
■Electronic key battery depletion
→P. 1 1 7
■When the ambient temperature is low, su ch as during winter driving conditions
When starting the hybrid system, the flashing time of the “READY” indicator may be
long. Leave the vehicle as it is until the “REA DY” indicator is steady on, as steady means
the vehicle is able to move.
■Conditions affecting operation
→ P. 1 3 0
■Note for the entry function
→P. 1 3 1
■If the hybrid system does not start
The immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. ( →P. 7 9 )
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repa irer, or another duly qualified and equipped
professional.
■When the power switch indicator flashes in amber
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional immediately.
■If the “READY” indicator does not come on
In the event that the “READY” indicator does not come on even after performing the
proper procedures for starting the vehicle, contact any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional immediately.
■If the hybrid system is malfunctioning
→ P. 5 2 6
■If the electronic key battery is depleted
→P. 4 8 3
■Operation of the power switch
●When operating the power switch, one short, firm press is enough. If the switch is
pressed improperly, the hybrid system may no t start or the power switch mode may not
change. It is not necessary to press and hold the switch.
●If attempting to restart the hybrid system immediately after turning the power switch off,
the hybrid system may not start in some cases. After turning the power switch off,
please wait a few seconds before restarting the hybrid system.
