■Alarms and warning messages
An alarm sounds and warning message displays shown on the multi-information display
are used to protect against unexpected accidents or theft of the vehicle resulting from
erroneous operation. When a warning message is displayed, take appropriate measures
based on the displayed message. ( →P. 5 2 1 )
When only an alarm sounds, circumstances and correction procedures are as follows.
■Battery-saving function (vehicles with entry function)
The battery-saving function will be activated in order to prevent the electronic key bat-
tery and the 12-volt battery from being discha rged while the vehicle is not in operation
for a long time.
●In the following situations, the smart entry & start system may take some time to unlock
the doors.
• The electronic key has been left in an area of approximately 2 m (6 ft.) of the outside
of the vehicle for 10 minutes or longer.
• The smart entry & start system has not been used for 5 days or longer.
●If the smart entry & start system has not been used for 14 days or longer, the doors can-
not be unlocked at any doors except the driver’s door. In this case, take hold of the
driver’s door handle, or use the wireless remote control or the mechanical key, to
unlock the doors.
■Conditions affecting operation
The smart entry & start system, wireless re mote control and immobilizer system use
weak radio waves. In the following situations, the communication between the electronic
key and the vehicle may be affected, preventing the smart entry & start system, wireless
remote control and immobilizer sy stem from operating properly.
(Ways of coping: →P. 565)
●When the electronic key battery is depleted
●Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large display, airport or
other facility that generates strong radio waves or electrical noise
●When carrying a portable radio, cellular ph one, cordless phone or other wireless com-
munication devices

holes and push it down to the lock position.
Press and hold the lock release button when
lowering the head restraint.
Make sure that the head restraints are adjusted
so that the center of the head restraint is closest
to the top of your ears.

■Head restraint precautions
Observe the following precautions regarding the head restraints. Failure to do so may
result in death or serious injury.
●Use the head restraints designed for each respective seat.
●Adjust the head restraints to the correct position at all times.

Operation of each component
CT200h_OM_OM76135E_(EE)
■Mirror angle can be adjusted when
The power switch is in ACCESSORY or ON mode.
■Rain clearing mirrors (type B only)
The coating on the mirror has the rain clearing (hydrophilic) effect to make the rear view
clearer in raining. When water droplets collects on the mirror surface, this effect causes
the droplets to be spread out into a film.
●The rain clearing effect will be reduced temp orarily, when the dirt is adhered to the mir-
ror or after your vehicle is parked for a long time in underground or indoor parking lots,
etc., where there is no direct sunlight. Howe ver, the effect will gradually recover after 1-
or 2-day exposure to direct sunlight.
●If you want to restore the rain clearing effect immediately, conduct the restoration work
( → P. 443).
■When the mirrors are fogged up
The outside rear view mirrors can be cleared using the mirror defoggers. Turn on the
rear window defogger to turn on the outside rear view mirror defoggers.
(→ P. 4 1 2 , 4 1 9 )
■Automatic adjustment of the mirror angle (vehicles with driving position memory)
A desired mirror face angle can be entered to memory and recalled automatically by the
driving position memory. ( →P. 1 4 7 )
■Auto anti-glare function (type B only)
When the anti-glare inside rear view mirror is set to automatic mode, the outside rear
view mirrors will activate in conjunction with the anti-glare inside rear view mirror to
reduce reflected light. ( →P. 1 5 5 )
■Using automatic mode in cold weather (type B only)
When automatic mode is used in cold weather, the door mirror could freeze up and
automatic stowing and return may not be possible. In this event, remove any ice and snow
from the door mirror, then either operate the mirror using manual mode or move the mir-
ror by hand.
■Customization
The automatic mirror folding and extending operation can be changed.
(Customizable features: →P. 5 8 9 )

NOTICE
■If you get a flat tire while driving
A flat or damaged tire may cause the following situations. Hold the steering wheel
firmly and gradually depress the brake pedal to slow down the vehicle.
●It may be difficult to control your vehicle.
●The vehicle will make abnormal sounds or vibrations.
●The vehicle will lean abnormally.
Information on what to do in case of a flat tire ( →P. 5 3 9 , 5 5 1 )
■When encountering flooded roads
Do not drive on a road that has flooded after heavy rain etc. Doing so may cause the
following serious damage to the vehicle:
●Engine stalling
●Short in electrical components
●Engine damage caused by water immersion
In the event that you drive on a flooded road and the vehicle is flooded, be sure to have
any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional check the following:
●Brake function
●Changes in quantity and quality of oil and fluid used for the engine, transmission, etc.
●Lubricant condition for the bearings and suspension joints (where possible), and the
function of all joints, bearings, etc.
If the shift control system is damaged by flooding, it may not be possible to shift the shift
position to P, or from P to other positions. When the shift position cannot be changed
from P to any other position, the front wheels will lock, and you will be unable to tow the
vehicle with the front wheels on the ground, as the front wheels may be locked. In this
case, transport the vehicle with both front wheels or all four wheels lifted.

■Things that must not be carr
ied in the luggage compartment
The following things may cause a fire if loaded in the luggage compartment:
●Receptacles containing gasoline
●Aerosol cans
■Storage precautions

• At the feet of the driver
• On the front passenger or rear seats (when stacking items)
• On the luggage cover (if equipped)
• On the instrument panel
• On the dashboard
●Secure all items in the occupant compartment.
■Load and distribution
●Do not overload your vehicle.
●Do not apply loads unevenly.
Improper loading may cause deterioration of steering or braking control which may
cause death or serious injury.

Shift lever
Operate the shift lever gently and ensure correct shifting operation.
Release the shift lever after each shifting operation to allow it to return to the posi-
tion.
When shifting from P to N, D or R, from D to R, or from R to D, ensure that the brake
pedal is being depressed and the vehicle is stationary.
Shift position indicator
The current shift position is illuminated.
When any shift position other than D or B is selected, the arrow toward B and B posi-
tion indicator disappear from
the shift position indicator.
When selecting the shift position, make sure that the shift position has been
changed to the desired position by checki ng the shift position indicator provided
on the instrument cluster.
Shifting the shift lever
