break-in. Wide-open throttle accel-
eration in low gear can be detrimental
and should be avoided.
The engine oil installed in the engine
at the factory is a high-quality energy
conserving type lubricant. Oil
changes should be consistent with an-
ticipated climate conditions under
which vehicle operations will occur.
For the recommended viscosity and
quality grades, refer to “Maintenance
Procedures” in “Maintaining Your Ve-
hicle”. NON-DETERGENT OR
STRAIGHT MINERAL OILS MUST
NEVER BE USED.
A new engine may consume some oil
during its first few thousand kilome-
ters of operation. This should be con-
sidered a normal part of the break-in
and not interpreted as an indication of
difficulty.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENTS FOR
DIESEL ENGINE
During the first 1500 km avoid heavy
loads, e.g. driving at full throttle. Donot exceed 2/3 of the maximum per-
missible engine speed for each gear.
Change gear in good time. Do not shift
down a gear manually in order to
brake.
SAFETY TIPS
TRANSPORTING
PASSENGERS
NEVER TRANSPORT PASSEN-
GERS IN THE CARGO AREA.
WARNING!
Do not leave children or animals
inside parked vehicles in hot
weather. Interior heat build-up
may cause serious injury or
death.
It is extremely dangerous to ride in a cargo area, inside or outside
of a vehicle. In a collision, people
riding in these areas are more
likely to be seriously injured or
killed.
(Continued)
WARNING!(Continued)
Do not allow people to ride in anyarea of your vehicle that is not
equipped with seats and seat
belts.
Be sure everyone in your vehicle is in a seat and using a seat belt
properly.
EXHAUST GAS
WARNING!
Exhaust gases can injure or kill.
They contain carbon monoxide
(CO), which is colorless and odor-
less. Breathing it can make you un-
conscious and can eventually poi-
son you. To avoid breathing (CO),
follow these safety tips:
Do not run the engine in a closedgarage or in confined areas any
longer than needed to move your
vehicle in or out of the area.

Tread Wear Indicators
Tread wear indicators are in the origi-
nal equipment tires to help you in
determining when your tires should
be replaced.
These indicators are molded into the
bottom of the tread grooves. They will
appear as bands when the tread depth
becomes 2 mm. When the tread is
worn to the tread wear indicators, the
tire should be replaced. Refer to “Re-
placement Tires” in this section for
further information.
Life Of Tire
The service life of a tire is dependent
upon varying factors including, but
not limited to:
Driving style
Tire pressure
Distance driven
Performance tires, tires with aspeed rating of V or higher, and
summer tires typically have a re-
duced tread life. Rotation of these
tires per the vehicle maintenance
schedule is highly recommended.
WARNING!
Tires and the spare tire should be
replaced after six years, regardless
of the remaining tread. Failure to
follow this warning can result in
sudden tire failure. You could lose
control and have a collision result-
ing in serious injury or death.
Keep dismounted tires in a cool, dry
place with as little exposure to light as
possible. Protect tires from contact
with oil, grease, and gasoline.
Replacement Tires
The tires on your new vehicle provide
a balance of many characteristics.
They should be inspected regularly
for wear and correct cold tire inflation
pressure. The manufacturer strongly
recommends that you use tires
equivalent to the originals in size,
quality and performance when re-
placement is needed. Refer to the
paragraph on “Tread Wear Indica-
tors”. Refer to the Tire and Loading
Information placard or the Vehicle
Certification Label for the size desig-
nation of your tire. The Load Index
and Speed Symbol for your tire will be
found on the original equipment tire
sidewall. See the Tire Sizing Chart
example found in the Tire Safety In-
formation section of this manual for
more information relating to the Load
Index and Speed Symbol of a tire.
It is recommended to replace the two
front tires or two rear tires as a pair.
Replacing just one tire can seriously
affect your vehicle’s handling. If you
ever replace a wheel, make sure that
the wheel’s specifications match those
of the original wheels.

any dirt or oil before tightening.
Inspect the wheel mounting surface
prior to mounting the tire and remove
any corrosion or loose particles. Tighten the lug nuts/bolts in a star
pattern until each nut/bolt has been
tightened twice.
After 40 km check the lug nut/bolt
torque to be sure that all the lug nuts/
bolts are properly seated against the
wheel.
WARNING!
To avoid the risk of forcing the ve-
hicle off the jack, do not tighten the
lug nuts fully until the vehicle has
been lowered. Failure to follow this
warning may result in personal in-
jury.
TIREFIT KIT (for
versions/markets, where
provided)
Small punctures up to 6 mm in the tire
tread can be sealed with TIREFIT.
Foreign objects (e.g., screws or nails)
should not be removed from the tire.
TIREFIT can be used in outside tem-
peratures down to approximately
-20°C.
This kit will provide a temporary tire
seal, allowing you to drive your ve-
hicle up to 160 km with a maximum
speed of 88 km/h.

2. Remove the Speed Limit sticker
from the top of the Sealant Bottle (1)
and place the sticker on the instru-
ment panel.
3. Immediately disconnect the Seal-
ant Hose (6) from the valve stem,
reinstall the cap on the fitting at the
end of the hose, and place the TIRE-
FIT kit in the vehicle storage location.
Quickly proceed to (D) “Drive Ve-
hicle”.
CAUTION!
The metal end fitting from PowerPlug (8) may get hot after use, so
it should be handled carefully.
Failure to reinstall the cap on the fitting at the end of the Sealant
Hose (6) can result in sealant
contacting your skin, clothing,
and the vehicle’s interior. It can
also result in sealant contacting
internal TIREFIT kit components
which may cause permanent
damage to the kit. (D) Drive Vehicle:
Immediately after injecting sealant
and inflating the tire, drive the vehicle
8 km or 10 minutes to ensure distri-
bution of the TIREFIT Sealant within
the tire. Do not exceed 88 km/h.
WARNING!
TIREFIT is not a permanent flat
tire repair. Have the tire inspected
and repaired or replaced after using
TIREFIT. Do not exceed 88 km/h
until the tire is repaired or replaced.
Failure to follow this warning can
result in injuries that are serious or
fatal to you, your passengers, and
others around you.
(E) After Driving:
Pull over to a safe location. Refer to
“Whenever You Stop to Use TIRE-
FIT” before continuing.
1. Turn the Mode Select Knob (5) to
the Air Mode position.

4. Check the pressure in the tire by
reading the Pressure Gauge (3).
If tire pressure is less than 1.3 Bar,
the tire is too badly damaged. Do not
attempt to drive the vehicle further.
Call for assistance.
If the tire pressure is 1.3 Bar or
higher:
1. Press the Power Button (4) to turn
on TIREFIT and inflate the tire to the
pressure indicated on the tire and
loading information label on the
driver-side door opening.
NOTE: If the tire becomes over-
inflated, press the Deflation But-
ton to reduce the tire pressure to
the recommended inflation pres-
sure before continuing.

routine and minor maintenance
operations you wish to carry out
yourself, we do recommend you
have the proper equipment,
genuine LANCIA spare parts and
the necessary fluids; do not how-
ever carry out these operations if
you have no experience.
Your vehicle has been built with improved fluids that protect the
performance and durability of
your vehicle and also allow ex-
tended maintenance intervals. Do
not use chemical flushes in these
components as the chemicals can
damage your engine, transmis-
sion, power steering or air condi-
tioning. Such damage is not cov-
ered by the New Vehicle Limited

cause of component malfunction,
use only the specified fluid for the
flushing procedure.
ENGINE OIL – GASOLINE
ENGINE
Checking Oil Level
To assure proper lubrication of your
vehicle's engine, the engine oil must
be maintained at the correct level.
The best time to check the engine oil
level is about five minutes after a fully
warmed up engine is shut off.
Checking the oil while the vehicle is
on level ground will improve the ac-
curacy of the oil level readings. Main-
tain the oil level in the SAFE level
range. Adding 0.95 Liter of oil when
the level is at the bottom of the SAFE
range will result in the level being at
the top of the SAFE range.
CAUTION!
Overfilling or underfilling the
crankcase will cause aeration or
loss of oil pressure. This could dam-
age your engine.
CAUTION!
Car maintenance should be done at
a LANCIA Dealership. For routine
and minor maintenance operations
you wish to carry out yourself, we
do recommend you have the proper
equipment, genuine LANCIA spare
parts and the necessary fluids; do
not however carry out these opera-
tions if you have no experience.

SYNTHETIC ENGINE OILS
You may use synthetic engine oils pro-
vided the recommended oil quality
requirements are met, and the recom-
mended maintenance intervals for oil
and filter changes are followed.
MATERIALS ADDED TO
ENGINE OILS
Do not add supplemental materials,
other than leak detection dyes, to the
engine oil. Engine oil is an engineered
product, and its performance may be
impaired by supplemental additives.
DISPOSING OF USED
ENGINE OIL AND FILTERS
Care should be taken in disposing of
used engine oil and oil filters from
your vehicle. Used oil and oil filters,
indiscriminately discarded, can pres-
ent a problem to the environment.
Contact your local authorized dealer,
service station, or governmental
agency for advice on how and where
used oil and oil filters can be safely
discarded in your area.
ENGINE OIL FILTER
The engine oil filter should be re-
placed with a new filter at every oil
change.
Engine Oil Filter Selection
The manufacturer's engines have a
full-flow type disposable oil filter. Use
a filter of this type for replacement.
The quality of replacement filters var-
ies considerably. Only high-quality
filters should be used to assure most
efficient service. LANCIA engine oil
filters are high-quality oil filters and
are recommended.

WARNING!
Use only manufacturer's recom-mended brake fluid. Refer to
“Fluids, Lubricants, and Genuine
Parts” in “Maintaining Your Ve-
hicle” for further information.
Using the wrong type of brake
fluid can severely damage your
brake system and/or impair its
performance. The proper type of
brake fluid for your vehicle is also
identified on the original factory
installed hydraulic master cylin-
der reservoir.
(Continued)
WARNING!(Continued)
To avoid contamination from for-eign matter or moisture, use only
new brake fluid or fluid that has
been in a tightly closed container.
Keep the master cylinder reser-
voir cap secured at all times.
Brake fluid in a open container
absorbs moisture from the air re-
sulting in a lower boiling point.
This may cause it to boil unex-
pectedly during hard or pro-
longed braking, resulting in sud-
den brake failure. This could
result in a accident.
Overfilling the brake fluid reser- voir can result in spilling brake
fluid on hot engine parts, causing
the brake fluid to catch fire.
Brake fluid can also damage
painted and vinyl surfaces, care
should be taken to avoid its con-
tact with these surfaces.
(Continued)
WARNING!(Continued)
Do not allow petroleum basedfluid to contaminate the brake
fluid. Brake seal components
could be damaged, causing par-
tial or complete brake failure.
This could result in an accident.
AUTOMATIC
TRANSMISSION
Selection Of Lubricant
It is important to use the proper trans-
mission fluid to ensure optimum
transmission performance and life.
Use only the manufacturer’s specified
transmission fluid. Refer to “Fluids,
Lubricants, and Genuine Parts” in
this section for fluid specifications. It
is important to maintain the trans-
mission fluid at the correct level using
the recommended fluid. No chemical
flushes should be used in any trans-
mission; only the approved lubricant
should be used.
