CAUTION!
Using a transmission fluid other
than the manufacturer’s recom-
mended fluid may cause deteriora-
tion in transmission shift quality
and/or torque converter shudder,
and will require more frequent fluid
and filter changes. Refer to “Fluids,
Lubricants, and Genuine Parts” in
this section for fluid specifications.
Special Additives
The manufacturer strongly recom-
mends against using any special addi-
tives in the transmission.
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
is an engineered product and its per-
formance may be impaired by supple-
mental additives. Therefore, do not
add any fluid additives to the trans-
mission. The only exception to this
policy is the use of special dyes for
diagnosing fluid leaks. Avoid using
transmission sealers as they may ad-
versely affect seals.
CAUTION!
Do not use chemical flushes in your
transmission as the chemicals can
damage your transmission compo-
nents. Such damage is not covered
by the New Vehicle Limited War-
ranty.
Fluid Level Check
The fluid level is preset at the factory
and does not require adjustment un-
der normal operating conditions.
Routine fluid level checks are not re-
quired, therefore the transmission has
no dipstick. Your authorized dealer
can check your transmission fluid
level using special service tools.
If you notice fluid leakage or trans-
mission malfunction, visit your au-
thorized dealer immediately to have
the transmission fluid level checked.
Operating the vehicle with an im-
proper fluid level can cause severe
transmission damage.
CAUTION!
If a transmission fluid leak occurs,
visit your authorized dealer imme-
diately. Severe transmission dam-
age may occur. Your authorized
dealer has the proper tools to adjust
the fluid level accurately.
Fluid And Filter Changes –
5-Speed Transmission
Refer to the “Maintenance Schedule”
for the proper maintenance intervals.
In addition, change the fluid and filter
if the fluid becomes contaminated
(with water, etc.) or if the transmis-
sion is disassembled for any reason.
CAUTION!
Car maintenance should be done at
a LANCIA Dealership. For routine
and minor maintenance operations
you wish to carry out yourself, we
do recommend you have the proper
equipment, genuine LANCIA spare
parts and the necessary fluids; do
not however carry out these opera-
tions if you have no experience.

SCHEDULE
MAINTENANCE
SCHEDULE – GASOLINE
ENGINE
The Scheduled Maintenance services
listed in this manual must be done at
the times or mileages specified to pro-
tect your vehicle warranty and ensure
the best vehicle performance and reli-
ability. More frequent maintenance
may be needed for vehicles in severe
operating conditions, such as dusty ar-
eas and very short trip driving. Inspec-
tion and service should also be done
anytime a malfunction is suspected.
The oil change indicator system will
remind you that it is time to take your
vehicle in for scheduled maintenance.
On Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC) equipped vehicles “Oil
Change Required” will be displayed
in the EVIC and a single chime will
sound, indicating that an oil change is
necessary.
NOTE:
The oil change indicator message
will not monitor the time since the
last oil change. Change your ve-
hicles oil if it has been 12 months
since your last oil change even if
the oil change indicator message
is NOT illuminated.
Under no circumstances shouldoil change intervals exceed
12,000 km or 12 months, which-
ever comes first.
Rotate the tires at the first sign of irregular wear.
Your authorized dealer will reset the
oil change indicator message after
completing the scheduled oil change.
CAUTION!
Failure to perform the required
maintenance items may result in
damage to the vehicle.

temperatures;

riods of idleness.
You should perform the following in-
spections more frequently than shown
on the Scheduled Servicing Plan:
check front disc brake pad condi- tions and wear;
check cleanliness of hood and trunk locks, cleanliness and lubrication of
linkage;
visually inspect conditions of: en- gine, transmission, pipes and hoses
(exhaust - fuel system - brakes) and
rubber elements (boots - sleeves -
bushes - etc.);
check battery charge and battery fluid level (electrolyte);
visually inspect condition of the ac- cessory drive belts;
check and, if necessary, change en- gine oil and replace oil filter; check and, if necessary, replace pol-
len filter;
check and, if necessary, replace air cleaner filter.
MAINTENANCE
SCHEDULE – DIESEL
ENGINE
To help you have the best driving
experience possible, the manufacturer
has identified the specific vehicle
maintenance service intervals that are
required to keep your vehicle operat-
ing properly and safely.
The manufacturer recommends that
these maintenance intervals be per-
formed at your selling dealer. The
technicians at your dealership know
your vehicle best, and have access to
factory trained information, genuine
LANCIA parts, and specially designed
electronic and mechanical tools that
can help prevent future costly repairs.
The maintenance intervals shown
should be performed as indicated in
this section. The vehicle is equipped with an en-
gine oil change indicator system. The
“Oil Change Required” message will
flash in the EVIC display for approxi-
mately 10 seconds after a single chime
has sounded to indicate the next
scheduled oil change interval. The en-
gine oil change indicator system is
duty cycle based, which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctu-
ate dependent upon your personal
driving style.
Unless reset, this message will con-
tinue to display each time you turn the
ignition switch to the ON/RUN posi-
tion. To turn off the message tempo-
rarily, press and release the Menu but-
ton.
NOTE:
Under no circumstances should
oil change intervals exceed
20,000 km or 12 months, which-
ever comes first.
