Features of your vehicle
Electronic Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) EHPS uses an electromotor to assist
you in steering the vehicle. It senses
the vehicle speed and road condition.
If the engine is off or if the power
steering system becomes inoperative,
the vehicle may still be steered, but it
will require increased steering effort.
Should you notice any change in the
effort required to steer during normal
vehicle operation, we recommend
that the system be checked by an
authorized Kia dealer.✽✽NOTICE
If the power steering drive belt
breaks or if the power steering
pump malfunctions, the steering
effort will greatly increase.
✽
✽ NOTICE
If the vehicle is parked for extended
periods outside in cold weather
(below -10°C/14°F), the power steer-
ing may require increased effort
when the engine is first started. This
is caused by increased fluid viscosity
due to the cold weather and does not
indicate a malfunction.
When this happens, increase the
engine RPM by depressing accelera-
tor until the RPM reaches 1,500 rpm
then release or let the engine idle for
two or three minutes to warm up the
fluid.
Tilt steering
Tilt steering allows you to adjust the
steering wheel before you drive. You
can also raise it to give your legs
more room when you exit and enter
the vehicle.
The steering wheel should be posi-
tioned so that it is comfortable for
you to drive, while permitting you to
see the instrument panel warning
lights and gauges.
STEERING WHEEL
WARNING
Never adjust the angle of the steering wheel while driving.
You may lose steering control
and cause severe personal
injury, death or accidents.
After adjusting, push the steering wheel both up and
down to be certain it is lockedin position.
CAUTION
Never hold the steering wheel
against a stop (extreme right orleft turn) for more than 5 sec- onds with the engine running.Holding the steering wheel formore than 5 seconds in either position may cause damage tothe power steering pump.

Warning Light
When the ABS Warning Light is on
or both ABS and Parking Brake &
Brake Fluid Warning Lights are on,
the speedometer, odometer, or trip-
meter may not work. Also, the EPS
Warning Light may illuminate and
the steering effort may increase or
decrease.
In this case, we recommend you
have the vehicle inspected by an
authorized Kia dealer as soon as
possible.Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
This warning light illuminates:
Once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position. - It remains on until the engine is
started.
When there is a malfunction with the emission control system.
In this case, we recommend that
you have the vehicle inspected by
an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION - Malfunction IndicatorLamp (MIL)
Driving with the Malfunction
Indicator Lamp (MIL) on maycause damage to the emissioncontrol systems which could effect drivability and/or fueleconomy.
CAUTION - Gasoline Engine
If the Malfunction Indicator
Lamp (MIL) illuminates, poten-tial catalytic converter damage is possible which could result inloss of engine power.
In this case, we recommend thatyou have the vehicle inspectedby an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

What to do in an emergency
Emergency towing precautions
Place the ignition switch in ACC sothe steering wheel isn’t locked.
Place the transaxle shift lever in N (Neutral).
Release the parking bake.
Press the brake pedal with more force than normal since you will
have reduced brake performance.
More steering effort will be required because the power steer-
ing system will be disabled.
If you are driving down a long hill, the brakes may overheat and brake
performance will be reduced. Stop
often and let the brakes cool off.CAUTION - Automatic
transaxle
If the car is being towed with all four wheels on the ground,it can be towed only from the front. Be sure that thetransaxle is in neutral. Be surethe steering is unlocked by placing the ignition switch inthe ACC position. A drivermust be in the towed vehicle to operate the steering andbrakes.
To avoid serious damage to the automatic transaxle, limitthe vehicle speed to 15 km/h (10 mph) and drive less than1.5 km (1 mile) when towing.
Before towing, check the auto- matic transaxle for fluid leaksunder your vehicle. If the auto- matic transaxle fluid is leak-ing, a flatbed equipment ortowing dolly must be used.
