Carrying long/narrow cargo
Pull the armrest down using the
strap provided on the armrest. Pull
the cover down while pushing the
release lever down. Additional cargo
space is provided to accommodate
long/narrow cargo (skis, poles, lum-
ber, etc.) not able to fit properly in the
trunk when closed.

CAUTION
Make sure the engine is off,
the shift lever is in P and theparking brake is appliedwhenever loading or unload-ing cargo. The vehicle maymove if the shift lever is inad-vertently moved to anotherposition.
Be careful when loading cargo through the rear passengerseats to prevent damage tothe vehicle interior.
When cargo is loaded through the rear passenger seats,ensure the cargo is properlysecured to prevent it frommoving while driving.
Unsecured cargo in the pas-senger compartment cancause damage to the vehicleor injury to it’s occupants.
WARNING- Cargo
Cargo should always be
secured to prevent it from being
thrown about the vehicle in a
collision and causing injury to
the vehicle occupants. Do not
place objects on the rear seats,
since they cannot be properly
secured and may hit the front
seat occupants in a collision.
WARNING
When you use the strap provid-
ed on the armrest. Be careful
not to damage to the high volt-
age battery. Do not take off the
trim for the high voltage battery
when using the strap. If not, the
high voltage battery is damaged.
Further it may cause electric
shock or burns that can result in
a death or serious injury.

Key operations
To remove the mechanical key, press
and hold the release button (1) and
remove the mechanical key (2).
To reinstall the mechanical key, put
the key into the hole and push it until
a click sound is heard.
Remote keyless entry system
operations
Lock (1)
All doors are locked if the lock button
is pressed. If all doors (and trunk) are
closed, the hazard warning lights will
blink once to indicate that all doors
(and trunk) are locked.
Also, if the lock button is pressed
once more within 4 seconds, the
hazard warning lights will blink and
the chime will sound once to confirm
that the door is locked.

WARNING- Ignition key(Smart key)
Leaving children unattended in
a vehicle with the ignition key
(smart key) is dangerous even if
the key is not in the ignition
switch or start button is ACC or
ON position.
Children copy adults and they
could place the key in the igni-
tion switch or press the start
button. The ignition key (smart
key) would enable children to
operate power windows or
other controls, or even make
the vehicle move, which could
result in serious bodily injury or
even death. Never leave the
keys in your vehicle with unsu-
pervised children, when the
engine is running.

Opening the trunk
Press the trunk unlock button for
more than 1 second on the trans-
mitter (or smart key).
Press the button on the trunk han- dle with the smart key in your pos-
session.
Once the trunk is opened and then
closed, the trunk locks automati-
cally. To open the trunk from inside the
vehicle, pull the trunk lid release
button.
Once the trunk is opened and then
closed, the trunk locks automati-
cally.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
In cold and wet climates, trunk lock
and trunk mechanisms may not
work properly due to freezing condi-
tions.

CAUTION
Make certain that you close the
trunk before driving your vehi-cle. Possible damage may occurto the trunk lift cylinders andattached hardware if the trunk isnot closed prior to driving.

The trunk swings upward. Make
sure no objects or people are
near the rear of the vehicle
when opening the trunk.

Emergency trunk lid release
cable
1. Take the cover out by putting thescrewdriver or key at left side and
raising cover slightly upward.
2. Pull the hook of cable.
3. After use, securely close the cover.
Closing the trunk
To close, lower the trunk lid, then
press down on it until it locks. To be
sure the trunk lid is securely fas-
tened, always check by trying to pull
it up again.

• While driving the vehicle, do not use emergency trunk lidrelease.
If there is a problem with the trunk, have the vehiclechecked and repaired by anauthorized Kia dealer.
WARNING
The trunk lid should always be
kept completely closed while
the vehicle is in motion. If it is
left open or ajar, poisonous
exhaust gases may enter the
car and serious illness or death
may result.

Emergency trunk safety
release
Your vehicle is equipped with an
emergency trunk release lever locat-
ed inside the trunk. If someone is
inadvertently locked in the trunk,
moving the handle in the direction of
the arrow will release the trunk latch
mechanism and open the trunk.
WARNING
No one should be allowed to
occupy the trunk at any time.
The trunk is a very dangerous
location in the event of a crash.
Use the release lever for emergencies only. Use
extreme caution, especially
while the vehicle is in motion.
