2014 HYUNDAI IX35 What is the tyre pressure

613
What to do in an emergency
If you have a tyre gauge, remove the
valve cap and check the air pressure.
If the pressure is lower than recom-
mended, drive slowly to the nearest
service station and inflate to the cor-
rect pressure. If it is too high, adjust
it until it is correct. Always reinstall
the valve cap after checking or
adjusting tyre pressure. If the cap is
not replaced, air may leak from the
tyre. If you lose a valve cap, buyanother and install it as soon as pos-
sible.
After you have changed wheels,
always secure the flat tyre in its place
and return the jack and tools to their
proper storage locations. To prevent the jack, jack handle,
wheel brace and spare tyre from rat-
tling whilst the vehicle is in motion,
store them properly.CAUTION
Your vehicle has metric threads
on the wheel studs and nuts.Make certain during wheel removal that the same nuts thatwere removed are reinstalled -or, if replaced, that nuts with metric threads and the samechamfer configuration are used.Installation of a non-metric thread nut on a metric stud orvice-versa will not secure thewheel to the hub properly andwill damage the stud so that it must be replaced.
Note that most lug nuts do nothave metric threads. Be sure touse extreme care in checking for thread style before installingaftermarket lug nuts or wheels. If in doubt, we recommend thatyou consult an authorised HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING - Wheel studs
If the studs are damaged, they
may lose their ability to retain
the wheel. This could lead to theloss of the wheel and a collisionresulting in serious injuries.
WARNING - Inadequate
spare tyre pressure
Check the inflation pressures as
soon as possible after installing
the spare tyre. Adjust it to the
specified pressure, if necessary.
Refer to “Tyres and wheels” insection 8.

TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS, IF EQUIPPED) (TYPE A)
Low tyre pressure telltale / TPMS malfunction indicator
Each tyre, including the spare (if pro-
vided), should be checked monthlywhen cold and inflated to the inflation
pressure recommended by the vehi-
cle manufacturer on the vehicle plac-
ard or tyre inflation pressure label. (If
your vehicle has tyres of a different
size than the size indicated on the
vehicle placard or tyre inflation pres-
sure label, you should determine the
proper tyre inflation pressure for
those tyres.) As an added safety feature, your
vehicle has been equipped with a
tyre pressure monitoring system
(TPMS) that illuminates a low tyrepressure telltale when one or more
of your tyres is significantly under-
inflated. Accordingly, when the low
tyre pressure telltale illuminates, you
should stop and check your tyres as
soon as possible, and inflate them to
the proper pressure. Driving on a sig-nificantly under-inflated tyre causes
the tyre to overheat and can lead to
tyre failure. Under-inflation alsoreduces fuel efficiency and tyre tread
life, and may affect the vehicle’s han-
dling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a
substitute for proper tyre mainte-
nance, and it is the driver’s responsi-bility to maintain correct tyre pres-
sure, even if under-inflation has not
reached the level to trigger illumina-
tion of the TPMS low tyre pressure
telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped
with a TPMS malfunction indicator toindicate when the system is not
operating properly. The TPMS mal-function indicator is combined with
the low tyre pressure telltale. Whenthe system detects a malfunction,
the telltale will flash for approximate-
ly one minute and then remain con-
tinuously illuminated. This sequence
will continue upon subsequent vehi-
cle start-ups as long as the malfunc-
tion exists. When the malfunctionindicator is illuminated, the system
may not be able to detect or signal
low tyre pressure as intended. TPMS
malfunctions may occur for a variety
of reasons, including the installation
of replacement or alternate tyres or
wheels on the vehicle that prevent
the TPMS from functioning properly.
Always check the TPMS malfunctiontelltale after replacing one or more
tyres or wheels on your vehicle toensure that the replacement or alter-
nate tyres and wheels allow the
TPMS to continue to function proper-
ly.

What to do in an emergency
✽✽NOTICE
If the TPMS indicator does not illu-
minate for 3 seconds when the igni-tion switch is turned to the ON posi-
tion or engine is running, or if it
comes on after blinking for approxi-
mately one minute, we recommendthat you contact a HYUNDAI
authorised repairer.Low tyre pressure tell- tale
When the tyre pressure monitoring
system warning indicator is illuminat-
ed, one or more of your tyres is sig-nificantly under-inflated.
If the telltale illuminates, immediately
reduce your speed, avoid hard cor-
nering and anticipate increased stop-
ping distances. You should stop and
check your tyres as soon as possi-
ble. Inflate the tyres to the proper
pressure as indicated on the vehi-
cle’s placard or tyre inflation pres-
sure label located on the driver’s side
centre pillar outer panel. If you can-
not reach a service station or if the
tyre cannot hold the newly added air,
replace the low pressure tyre with
the spare tyre.
Then the Low Tyre Pressure telltale
may flash for approximately one
minute and then remain continuously
illuminated after restarting and about
20 minutes of continuous driving
before you have the low pressuretyre repaired and replaced on the
vehicle.CAUTION
In winter or cold weather, the low tyre pressure telltale may beilluminated if the tyre pressurewas adjusted to the recom- mended tyre inflation pressurein warm weather. It does notmean your TPMS is malfunction- ing because the decreased tem-perature leads to a proportionallowering of tyre pressure.
When you drive your vehiclefrom a warm area to a cold area or from a cold area to a warmarea, or the outside temperatureis greatly higher or lower, you should check the tyre inflationpressure and adjust the tyres tothe recommended tyre inflation pressure.

TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)malfunction indicator
The TPMS malfunction indicator will
illuminate after it blinks for approxi-
mately one minute when there is a
problem with the Tyre Pressure
Monitoring System. If the system is
able to correctly detect an under infla-
tion warning at the same time as sys-
tem failure then it will illuminate the
TPMS malfunction indicator.
We recommend that the system be
checked by a HYUNDAI authorised
repairer.
WARNING - Low pressure
damage
Significantly low tyre pressure
makes the vehicle unstable and
can contribute to loss of vehicle
control and increased brakingdistances.
Continued driving on low pres- sure tyres can cause the tyres
to overheat and fail.CAUTION
The TPMS malfunction indica- tor may be illuminated if thevehicle is moving around elec- tric power supply cables orradios transmitter such as atpolice stations, government and public offices, broadcast-ing stations, military installa-tions, airports, or transmitting towers, etc. This can interferewith normal operation of theTyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
The TPMS malfunction indica- tor may illuminate if snowchains or some separatelypurchased devices such as notebook computers, mobilecharger, remote starter, navi-gation etc. are used in the vehicle. This can interfere withnormal operation of the TyrePressure Monitoring System(TPMS).

What to do in an emergency
Changing a tyre with TPMS
If you have a flat tyre, the Low Tyre
Pressure will come on. We recom-
mend that the flat tyre be checked by
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. Each wheel is equipped with a tyrepressure sensor mounted inside the
tyre behind the valve stem. You must
use TPMS specific wheels. It is rec-
ommended that you have your tyres
serviced by a HYUNDAI authorised
repairer.
Even if you replace the low pressure
tyre with the spare tyre, the Low Tyre
Pressure Telltale will blink or remain
on until the low pressure tyre is
repaired and placed on the vehicle.
After you replace the low pressure
tyre with the spare tyre, the Low Tyre
Pressure Telltale may blink or illumi-
nate after a few minutes because theTPMS sensor mounted on the sparewheel is not initiated.
Once the low pressure tyre is rein- flated to the recommended pressure
and installed on the vehicle or we
recommend that the TPMS sensormounted on the replaced spare
wheel be initiated by a HYUNDAI
authorised repairer, the TPMS mal-
function indicator and the low tyre
pressure telltale will extinguish within
a few minutes of driving. If the indicator is not extinguished
after a few minutes of driving, Werecommend that the system be
checked by an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.
CAUTION
If original mounted tyre is
replaced with the spare tyre, theTPMS sensor on the replacedspare wheel should be initiated and we recommend that theTPMS sensor on the originalmounted wheel be deactivated by a HYUNDAI dealer. If theTPMS sensor on the originalmounted wheel located in the spare tyre carrier still activates, the tyre pressure monitoringsystem may not operate proper- ly. We recommend that the sys-tem be serviced by a HYUNDAIauthorised repairer.CAUTION
We recommend that you use apuncture-repairing agentapproved by HYUNDAI.
The sealant on the tyre pressuresensor and wheel shall be elem-inated when you replace thetyre with a new one.

You may not be able to identify a low
tyre by simply looking at it. Alwaysuse a good quality tyre pressuregauge to measure the tyre's inflation
pressure. Please note that a tyre that
is hot (from being driven) will have ahigher pressure measurement than atyre that is cold.
A cold tyre means the vehicle has
been sitting for 3 hours and driven forless than 1 mile (1.6 km) in that 3
hour period.
Allow the tyre to cool before measur-
ing the inflation pressure. Always be
sure the tyre is cold before inflating
to the recommended pressure.
CAUTION
We recommend that you use the
tyre sealant approved byHYUNDAI if your vehicle is equipped with a Tyre PressureMonitoring System. The liquidsealant can damage the tyre pressure sensors.
WARNING - Protecting
TPMS
Tampering with, modifying, or
disabling the Tyre PressureMonitoring System (TPMS) com-
ponents may interfere with thesystem's ability to warn the driv-
er of low tyre pressure condi-
tions and/or TPMS malfunctions.
Tampering with, modifying, or
disabling the Tyre PressureMonitoring System (TPMS) com-
ponents may void the warranty
for that portion of the vehicle.
WARNING - TPMS
The TPMS cannot alert you to severe and sudden tyre dam-
age caused by external fac-
tors such as nails or roaddebris.
If you feel any vehicle instabil- ity, immediately take your foot
off the accelerator, apply the
brakes gradually and with
light force, and slowly move to
a safe position off the road.WARNING - For EUROPE
Do not modify the vehicle, it may interfere with the TPMS function.
The wheels on the market do not have a TPMS sensor.
For your safety, we recom-
mend that you use parts for
replacement from a HYUNDAI
authorised repairer.
If you use the wheels on the market, use a TPMS sensor
approved by a HYUNDAI deal-
er. If your vehicle is not
equipped with a TPMS sensor
or TPMS does not work prop-
erly, you may fail the periodic
vehicle inspection conducted
in your country.
