SSmart key (if equipped)Your HYUNDAI uses a Smart Key,
which you can use to lock or unlock
a door (and tailgate) and even start
the engine.
1. Door Lock

Locking To lock :
1. Close all doors, engine hood and
tailgate.
2. Either press the door handle but- ton or press the Door Lock button
(1) on the smart key.
3. The hazard warning lights will blink once.
4. Make sure the doors are locked by checking the position of the door
lock button inside the vehicle.
Information
The door handle button will only
operate when the smart key is within
0.7~1 m (28~40 in.) from the outside
door handle. i

Even though you press the outside
door handle button, the doors will not
loc k and the chime will sound for
three seconds if any of the following
occur:
• The Smart Key is in the vehicle.
• The Engine Start/Stop button is in ACC or ON position.
• Any door except the tailgate is open.
UUnlockingTo unlock:
1. Carry the Smart Key.
2. Either press the door handle but-
ton or press the Door Unlock but-
ton (2) on the smart key.
3. The doors will unlock. The hazard warning lights will blink two times.
Information
The door handle button will onlyoperate when the smart key is with-
in 1 m (40 in.) from the outside door
handle. Other people can also open
the doors without the smart key in
possession.
After unlocking the doors, the doors will lock automatically after 30 sec-
onds unless a door is opened.i
Do not leave the Smart Key in
your vehicle with unsupervised
children. Unattended children
could press the Engine Start/ Stop
button and may operate power
windows or other controls, or even
make the vehicle move, which
could result in serious injury or
death.

TTailgate unlocking To unlock:
1. Carry the smart key.
2. Either press the tailgate handle
button or press the Tailgate Unlock
button (3) on the smart key for
more than one second.
3. The hazard warning lights will blink two times.
Once the tailgate is opened and then
closed, the tailgate will lock automat-
ically.
Information
After unlocking the tailgate, the tail-
gate will lock automatically after 30
seconds unless the tailgate is opened.
Start-upYou can start the engine without
inserting the key. For detailed infor-
mation refer to the Engine Start/Stop
button in chapter 5.To prevent damaging the smart key:
• Keep the smart key away from water or any liquid and fire. If the
inside of the smart key gets damp
(due to drinks or moisture), or is
heated, internal circuit may mal-
function, excluding the car from the
warranty.
• Avoid dropping or throwing the smart key.
• Protect the smart key from extreme temperatures.
Always have the smart key with you
when leaving the vehicle. If the smart
key is left near the vehicle, the vehi-
cle battery may be discharged.
Mechanical key If the Smart Key does not operate
normally, you can lock or unlock the
door by using the mechanical key.
Press and hold the release button (1)
and remove the mechanical key (2).
Insert the mechanical key into the
key hole on the door.
To reinstall the mechanical key, put
the key into the hole and push it until
a click sound is heard.

• If the inner door handle of the dri-ver’s door is pulled when the door
lock button is in the lock position,
the button is unlocked and door
opens.
• Front doors cannot be locked if the key is in the ignition switch and any
front door is open.
• Doors cannot be locked if the smart key is in the vehicle and any
door is open.
IInformation
If a power door lock ever fails to func-
tion while you are in the vehicle try
one or more of the following tech-
niques to exit:
Operate the door unlock feature
repeatedly (both electronic and manu-
al) while simultaneously pulling on the
door handle.
Operate the other door locks and han-
dles, front and rear.
Lower a front window and use the
mechanical key to unlock the door
from outside.
With the central door lock/unlock switch• When you press the door lock/unlock
switch, all vehicle doors will lock andthe indicator light on the switch willilluminate for approximately 60 sec-
onds (If the key is in the ignition
switch, the indicator light on theswitch will continuously illuminate).
If any door is opened when the switch
is pressed, all doors will not lock.
• If any door is unlocked, the indicator of the door lock switch will blink. Ifyou press the switch when the indi-
cator blinks, all doors will lock. • When you press the door lock/unlock
switch again, all vehicle doors will
unlock and the indicator light on the
switch will not illuminate.

The doors should always be
fully closed and locked while the
vehicle is in motion. If the doors
are unlocked, the risk of being
thrown from the vehicle in a
crash is increased.
•
Do not pull the inner door handle
of the driver’s or passenger’s
door while the vehicle is moving.

OOpening the hood 1. Make sure the shift lever is in P
(Park, for Continuously Variable
Transaxle vehicle) or first gear or
R (Reverse, for Manual Transaxle
vehicle) and set the parking brake.
2. Pull the release lever to unlatch the hood. The hood should pop
open slightly. 3. Go to the front of the vehicle, raise
the hood slightly, push the second-
ary latch up (1) inside of the hood
center and lift the hood (2). 4. Pull out the support rod.
5. Hold the hood opened with the
support rod.&&

The support rod must be inserted
completely into the hole provided
whenever you inspect the engine
compartment. This will prevent the
hood from falling and possibly
injuring you.

CC losing the hood1. Before closing the hood, check the
following:
• All filler caps in engine compart- ment must be correctly installed.
• Gloves, rags or any other com- bustible material must be removed
from the engine compartment.
2. Return the support rod to its clip to prevent it from rattling.
3. Lower the hood halfway (lifted approximately 30cm from the
closed position) and push down to
securely lock in place. Then dou-
ble check to be sure the hood is
secure.
•
Before closing the hood, ensure
that all obstructions are
removed from the hood opening.
Closing the hood with an
obstruction present in the hood
opening may result in property
damage or severe personal
injury.
•
Do not leave gloves, rags or any
other combustible material in the
engine compartment. Doing so
may cause a heat-induced fire.
•
Do not move the vehicle with the
hood raised. The view will be
blocked and the hood could fall
or be damaged.
WARNING
Always double check to be surethat the hood is firmly latched
before driving away. Check there
is no hood open warning light or
message displayed on the instru-
ment cluster. Driving with the hood
opened may cause a total loss of
visibility, which might result in an
accident.

it clockwise until it “clicks” once.
This indicates that the cap is
securely tightened.
2. Close the fuel filler door (1) and push it lightly and make sure that it
is securely closed. Petrol is highly flammable and
explosive. Failure to follow these
guidelines may result in SERIOUS
INJURY or DEATH: •
Read and follow all warnings
posted at the gas station.
•
Before refueling, note the loca-
tion of the Emergency Petrol
Shut-Off, if available, at the gas
station.

Before touching the fuel nozzle,
you should eliminate the poten-
tial build-up of static electricity
by touching a metal part of the
vehicle, a safe distance away
from the fuel filler neck, nozzle,
or other gas source, with your
bare hand.
•
Do not use cellular phones while
refueling. Electric current and/or
electronic interference from cel-
lular phones can potentially
ignite fuel vapors and cause a
fire.
•
Do not get back into a vehicle
once you have begun refueling.
You can generate a build-up of
static electricity by touching, rub-
bing or sliding against any item or
fabric capable of producing static
electricity. Static electricity dis-
charge can ignite fuel vapors
causing a fire.

you should once again eliminate
potentially dangerous static elec-
tricity discharge by touching a
metal part of the vehicle, away
from the fuel filler neck, nozzle or
other petrol source, with your
bare hand.•
When using an approved
portable fuel container, be sure
to place the container on the
ground prior to refueling. Static
electricity discharge from the
container can ignite fuel vapors
causing a fire. Once refueling
has begun, contact between
your bare hand and the vehicleshould be maintained until the
filling is complete.
•
Use only approved portable plastic
fuel containers designed to carry
and store petrol.

Make sure to refuel your vehicle
according to the "Fuel Requirements"
suggested in the foreword chapter.
Do not spill fuel on the exterior sur- faces of the vehicle. Any type of fuel
spilled on painted surfaces may
damage the paint.If the fuel filler cap requires replace-
ment, use only a genuine HYUNDAI
cap or the equivalent specified for
your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap
can result in a serious malfunction of
the fuel system or emission control

When refueling, always move
the shift lever to the P (Park)
position (for Continuously
Variable Transaxle vehicle) or
first gear or R (Reverse) position
(for Manual Transaxle vehicle),
set the parking brake, and place
the ignition switch to the
LOCK/OFF position. Sparks
produced by electrical compo-
nents related to the engine can
ignite fuel vapors causing a fire.
•
Do not use matches or a lighter
and do not smoke or leave a lit
cigarette in your vehicle while at
a gas station, especially during
refueling.
•
Do not over-fill or top-off your
vehicle tank, which can cause
petrol spillage.

If a fire breaks out during refuel-
ing, leave the vicinity of the vehi-
cle, and immediately contact the
manager of the gas station and
then contact the local fire
department. Follow any safety
instructions they provide.
•
If pressurized fuel sprays out, it
can cover your clothes or skin
and thus subject you to the risk
of fire and burns. Always
remove the fuel cap carefully
and slowly. If the cap is venting
fuel or if you hear a hissing
sound, wait until the condition
stops before completely remov-
ing the cap.
•
Always check that the fuel cap is
installed securely to prevent fuel
spillage in the event of an acci-
dent.
