•Use an extension cord suitable for useoutdoors and in cold temperatures. Itshould be clearly marked that it issuitable for use with outdoorappliances. Do not use an indoorextension cord outdoors. This couldresult in an electric shock or become afire hazard.
•Use as short an extension cord aspossible.
•Do not use multiple extension cords.
•Make sure that when in operation, theextension cord plug and heater cordplug connections are free and clear ofwater. This could cause an electricshock or fire.
•Make sure you park your vehicle in aclean area, clear of combustibles.
•Make sure you firmly connect theheater, heater cord and extension cord.
•Check for heat anywhere in theelectrical hookup when the system hasbeen operating for approximately 30minutes.
•Make sure you unplug and correctlystow the system before starting anddriving your vehicle. Make sure theprotective cover seals the prongs of theblock heater cord plug when not in use.
•Make sure you check the heater systemfor correct operation before winter.
Using the Engine Block Heater
The engine block heater plug is located ina housing in the left fog lamp bezel. Openthe hinged, circular door and make surethe receptacle terminals are clean and dryprior to use. Clean them with a dry cloth ifnecessary.
The heater uses 0.4 to 1.0 kilowatt-hoursof energy per hour of use. The system doesnot have a thermostat. It achievesmaximum temperature afterapproximately three hours of operation.Using the heater longer than three hoursdoes not improve system performance andunnecessarily uses electricity.

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine FUEL QUALITY - GASOLINE
Choosing the Right Fuel
We recommend regular unleaded gasolinewith a pump octane rating of 87. Somestations offer fuels posted as regular withan octane rating below 87, particularly inhigh altitude areas. We do not recommendfuels with an octane rating below 87.Premium unleaded gasoline will provideimproved performance and isrecommended for severe duty usage, forexample a fully loaded vehicle.
Do not use any fuel other than thoserecommended because they could lead toengine damage that may not be coveredby the vehicle Warranty.
Note:Use of any fuel other than thoserecommended can impair the emissioncontrol system and cause a loss of vehicleperformance.
Do not use:
•Diesel fuel.
•Kerosene or paraffin fuels.
•Fuel containing more than 15% ethanolor E-85 fuel.
•Fuels containing methanol.
•Fuels containing metallic-basedadditives, including manganese-basedcompounds.
•Fuels containing the octane boosteradditive, methylcyclopentadienylmanganese tricarbonyl (MMT).
•Leaded fuel (using leaded fuel isprohibited by law).
The use of fuels with metallic compoundssuch as methylcyclopentadienylmanganese tricarbonyl (commonly knownas MMT), which is a manganese-basedfuel additive, will impair engineperformance and affect the emissioncontrol system.
Do not be concerned if the enginesometimes knocks lightly. However, if itknocks heavily under most drivingconditions while you are using fuel with therecommended octane rating, contact anauthorized dealer to prevent any enginedamage.
FUEL QUALITY - DIESEL
Choosing the Right Fuel
Use only Regular Diesel with a pumpcetane rating of 48 or higher. Werecommend using Premium Diesel with acetane rating of 55 or higher for optimalperformance of your vehicle. PremiumDiesel is recommended for severe dutyusage, for example fully loaded or trailertow.

6.Clean the plastic funnel and place itback in your vehicle or properly disposeof it.
Note:Extra funnels can be purchased froman authorized dealer if you choose todispose of the funnel.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER
WARNING
Do not park or idle your vehicle overdry leaves, dry grass or othercombustible materials. The exhaustwill radiate a considerable amount of heatduring use, and after you have switchedthe engine off. This is a potential firehazard.
Driving with a Catalytic Converter
WARNINGS
Avoid running out of fuel.
Do not crank the engine for longperiods.
Do not run the engine when a sparkplug lead is disconnected.
Do not push-start or tow-start yourvehicle. Use booster cables. SeeJump Starting the Vehicle (page225).
Do not switch the ignition off whendriving.
REFUELING
WARNINGS
Do not attempt to start the engine ifyou have filled the fuel tank with theincorrect fuel. This could damage theengine. Have your vehicle checked by anauthorized dealer immediately.
Do not use any kind of flames or heatnear the fuel system. The fuel systemis under pressure. There is a risk ofinjury if the fuel system is leaking.
If you use a high pressure spray towash your vehicle, only spray the fuelfiller flap briefly from a distance notless than 8 inches (200 millimeters).
We recommend that you wait atleast 10 seconds before removing thefuel nozzle to allow any residual fuelto drain into the fuel tank.
Stop refueling after the fuel nozzlestops the second time. Additionalfuel will fill the expansion space inthe fuel tank which could lead to fueloverflowing. Fuel spillage could behazardous to other road users.
Do not remove the fuel nozzle fromits fully inserted position during theentire refueling process.
Note:Your vehicle does not have a fuel fillercap.

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine FUEL CONSUMPTION
We derive CO2 and fuel consumptionfigures in laboratory tests according toRegulation (EC) 715/2007 or CR (EC)692/2008 and subsequent amendments.
They are intended as a comparisonbetween makes and models of vehicles. They are not intended to represent the realworld fuel consumption you may get fromyour vehicle.
Real world fuel consumption is governedby many factors, for example driving style, high speed driving, stop-start driving, airconditioning usage, the accessories fitted, payload and towing.
The advertised capacity is the indicatedcapacity and the empty reserve combined.Indicated capacity is the difference in theamount of fuel in the fuel tank and whenthe fuel gauge indicates empty. Emptyreserve is the amount of fuel in the fueltank after the fuel gauge indicates empty.
Note: The amount of fuel in the emptyreserve varies and should not be relied uponto increase driving range. When refuelingyour vehicle after the fuel gauge indicatesempty, you might not be able to refuel thefull amount of the advertised capacity dueto the empty reserve still present in the fueltank.
Filling the Fuel Tank
For consistent results when refueling:
•Switch the ignition off.
•Allow no more than two automaticshut-offs when refueling.
Results are most accurate when therefueling method is consistent.
Calculating Fuel Economy
Do not measure fuel economy during thefirst 1000 mi (1,600 km) of driving (this isthe engine break-in period). A moreaccurate measurement is obtained after2500 mi (4,000 km). Also, fuel expense, frequency of fill ups or fuel gauge readingsare not accurate ways to measure fueleconomy.
1.Fill the fuel tank completely and recordthe initial odometer reading.
2.Each time you fill the fuel tank, recordthe amount of fuel added.
3.After at least three fill ups, fill the fueltank and record the current odometerreading.
4.Subtract your initial odometer readingfrom the current odometer reading.
5.Calculate fuel economy by dividingmiles traveled by gallons used (ForMetric: Multiply liters used by 100, thendivide by kilometers traveled).
Keep a record for at least one month andrecord the type of driving (city or freeway). This provides an accurate estimate of yourvehicle’s fuel economy under currentdriving conditions. Additionally, keepingrecords during summer and winter showhow temperature impacts fuel economy. In general, your vehicle will use more fuelin cold temperatures.

WARNINGS
The system does not relieve you ofyour responsibility to drive with duecare and attention.
If your vehicles has a non-Fordapproved trailer tow module thesystem may not correctly detectobjects.
The sensors may not detect objectsin heavy rain or other conditions thatcause disruptive reflections.
The sensors may not detect objectswith surfaces that absorb ultrasonicwaves.
The system does not detect objectsthat are moving away from yourvehicle. They will only be detectedshortly after they start to move towardyour vehicle.
Take particular care when reversingwith a tow ball arm or a rear fittedaccessory. For example, a bicyclecarrier. The rear parking aid will onlyindicate the approximate distance fromthe rear bumper to an object.
If you use a high pressure spray towash your vehicle, only spray thesensors briefly from a distance notless than eight inches (20 centimeters).
Note:If your vehicle has a tow ball arm, thesystem is turned off automatically whentrailer lamps (or lighting boards) areconnected to the 13-pin socket through aFord approved trailer tow module.
Note:Keep the sensors free from dirt, iceor snow. Do not clean with sharp objects.
Note:The system may emit false alerts ifit detects a signal using the same frequencyas the sensors or if your vehicle is fullyloaded.
Note:The outer sensors may detect theside walls of a garage. If the distancebetween the outer sensors and the side wallremains constant for three seconds, thealert will turn off. As you continue the innersensors will detect objects directly behindyour vehicle.
REAR PARKING AID
WARNINGS
Sensing is only an aid to detect someobjects when moving forward orbackward at low speeds. Trafficcontrol systems, inclement weather or anexternal motor and fan can affect thesensors; this may include reducedperformance or false activation. To helpavoid personal injury you must read andunderstand the limitations of the systemdetailed in this section.
The parking aid system may notprevent contact with small or movingobjects that are close to the ground. The parking aid system gives an audiblewarning when it detects a large objecthelping to avoid damage to your vehicle. To help avoid personal injury you must takecare when using the parking aid system.
Rear Sensing System
When the parking aid system produces anaudible warning, the audio system mayreduce the set volume to a predeterminedlevel.
Note:Some add-on equipment can causereduced performance or false activation. For example, large trailer hitches, bike orsurfboard racks.
Note:The parking aid system sensors mustbe kept clean and free from snow or ice toavoid reduced performance or falseactivation. Do not clean the sensors withsharp objects.

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine If the transmission is in reverse (R), thefront sensing system provides audiowarnings when your vehicle is moving andthe detected obstacle is moving towardsyour vehicle. Once the vehicle is stationary, the audio warning will be stopped after 2seconds.
Obstacle Distance Indicator (If
Equipped)
The system provides obstacle distanceindication through the information display. The distance indicator displays when thetransmission is in reverse (R).
The indicator displays:
•As the distance to the obstacledecreases the indicator blocksilluminate and move towards thevehicle icon.
•If there is no obstacle detected, thedistance indicator blocks are greyedout.
Vehicles with automatic transmission
If the gearshift is in neutral (N), the systemprovides obstacle distance indicationthrough the information display. If yourvehicle moves the front sensing systemprovides an audible warning when thevehicle is moving at 7 mph (12 km/h) orbelow and an obstacle is located insidethe detection area. Once the vehicle isstationary, the audio warning will bestopped after 4 seconds.
If the gearshift is in drive (D) or any otherforward gear, the front sensing systemprovides audio warnings when the vehicleis moving and an obstacle is located insidethe detection area. Once the vehicle isstationary, the audio warning will bestopped after 2 seconds.
SIDE SENSING SYSTEM
The side sensing system uses the front andrear side sensors to detect obstacles thatare near to the sides of your vehicle. Thesystem places them on a virtual map in theinstrument cluster as your vehicle movespast them. The system detects obstacleseven when they are no longer in thesensor’s field of view.
Note:If an obstacle approaches the sideof the vehicle without passing a front or rearside sensor, the obstacle will not bedetected.
The side sensors are active when thetransmission is in any other position otherthan park (P).
Coverage area is up to 24 in (60 cm) fromthe side of your vehicle.
When the system detects an object closeto the side of your vehicle, an audiblewarning sounds. As the object comescloser to the side of your vehicle, the rateof the audible warning increases. The rateof the audible warning varies dependingon whether the obstacle is inside or outsideof the driving path of your vehicle.
