Snowplowing with your AirbagEquipped Vehicle
WARNINGS
Do not attempt to service, repair, ormodify the airbag supplementalrestraint system (SRS) or its fuses.See your Ford or Lincoln Mercury dealer.
Additional equipment such assnowplow equipment may affect theperformance of the airbag sensorsincreasing the risk of injury. Please refer tothe Body Builders Layout Book forinstructions about the appropriateinstallation of additional equipment.
All occupants of the vehicle,including the driver, should alwaysproperly wear their safety belts, evenwhen provided with an airbagsupplemental restraint system (SRS).
Your vehicle is equipped with a driver andpassenger airbag supplemental restraintsystem. The supplemental restraint systemwill activate in certain frontal and offsetfrontal collisions when the vehicle sustainssufficient frontal deceleration.
Careless or high speed driving whileplowing snow that results in sufficientvehicle decelerations can deploy theairbag. Such driving also increases the riskof accidents
Never remove or defeat the trippingmechanisms designed into the snowremoval equipment by its manufacturer.Doing so may cause damage to the vehicleand the snow removal equipment as wellas possible airbag deployment.
Engine temperature while plowing
When driving with a plow, your engine mayrun at a higher temperature than normalbecause the attached snowplow blade willrestrict airflow to the radiator.
•If you are driving more than 14.91 mi(24 km) at temperatures abovefreezing, angle the plow blade eitherfull left or full right to providemaximum airflow to the radiator.
•If you are driving less than 14.91 mi(24 km) at speeds up to 44.7 mph(72 km/h) in cold weather, you will notneed to worry about blade position toprovide maximum airflow.
Transmission operation whileplowing
WARNING
Do not spin the wheels at over34.2 mph (55 km/h). The tires mayfail and injure a passenger orbystander.
•Shift transfer case to 4L (4WD Low)when plowing in small areas at speedsbelow 5 mph (8 km/h).
•Shift transfer case to 4H (4WD High)when plowing larger areas or light snowat higher speeds. Do not exceed 15 mph(24 km/h).
•Do not shift the transmission from aforward gear to R (Reverse) until theengine is at idle and the wheels havestopped.

Driving Hints
1. Remove the jumper cable from theground metal surface or connectingpoint, if available.
2. Remove the jumper cable on thenegative (-) terminal of the boostervehicle's battery.
3. Remove the jumper cable from thepositive (+) terminal of the boostervehicle's battery.
4. Remove the jumper cable from thepositive (+) terminal of the disabledvehicle's battery.
After the disabled vehicle has been startedand the jumper cables removed, allow itto idle for several minutes so the batterycan recharge.
POST-CRASH ALERT SYSTEM
The system flashes the turn signal lampsand sounds the horn (intermittently) in theevent of a serious impact that deploys anairbag (front, side, side curtain or SafetyCanopy) or the safety belt pretensioners.
The horn and lamps will turn off when:
•The hazard control button is pressed
•The panic button (if equipped) ispressed on the remote entrytransmitter
•Your vehicle runs out of power

CLEANING THE INTERIOR
WARNINGS
Do not use cleaning solvents, bleachor dye on the vehicle’s safety belts,as these actions may weaken thebelt webbing.
On vehicles equipped withseat-mounted airbags, do not usechemical solvents or strongdetergents. Such products couldcontaminate the side airbag system andaffect performance of the side airbag in acollision.
For fabric, carpets, cloth seats, safety beltsand seats equipped with side airbags:
•Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.
•Remove light stains and soil withMotorcraft Professional StrengthCarpet & Upholstery Cleaner.
•If grease or tar is present on thematerial, spot-clean the area first withMotorcraft Spot and Stain Remover. InCanada, use Motorcraft Multi-PurposeCleaner.
•If a ring forms on the fabric after spotcleaning, clean the entire areaimmediately (but do not oversaturate)or the ring will set.
•Do not use household cleaningproducts or glass cleaners, which canstain and discolor the fabric and affectthe flame retardant abilities of the seatmaterials.
CLEANING THE INSTRUMENT
PANEL AND INSTRUMENT
CLUSTER LENS
WARNING
Do not use chemical solvents orstrong detergents when cleaning thesteering wheel or instrument panelto avoid contamination of the airbagsystem.
Clean the instrument panel and clusterlens with a clean, damp, white cottoncloth, then use a clean and dry whitecotton cloth to dry these areas.
•Avoid cleaners or polishes that increasethe gloss of the upper portion of theinstrument panel. The dull finish in thisarea helps protect you fromundesirable windshield reflection.
•Be certain to wash or wipe your handsclean if you have been in contact withcertain products such as insectrepellent and suntan lotion in order toavoid possible damage to the interiorpainted surfaces.
•Do not use household or glass cleanersas these may damage the finish of theinstrument panel, interior trim andcluster lens.
•Do not allow air fresheners and handsanitizers to spill onto interior surfaces.If a spill occurs, wipe off immediately.Damage may not be covered by yourwarranty.
If a staining liquid like coffee or juice hasbeen spilled on the instrument panel or oninterior trim surfaces, clean as follows:
1. Wipe up spilled liquid using a clean,white, cotton cloth.

Setting 911 Assist On
1. Press the phone button to enter thephone menu.
2. Scroll to select 911 Assist.
3. Press OK to confirm and enter the 911Assist menu.
4. Scroll to select between On and Off.
5. Press OK when the desired optionappears in the radio display.Set On orSet Off appears in the display asconfirmation.
Off selections include:
•Off with reminder: Provides a displayand voice reminder at phoneconnection at vehicle start.
•Off without reminder: Provides adisplay reminder only without a voicereminder at phone connection.
To make sure that 911 Assist worksproperly:
•SYNC must be powered and workingproperly at the time of the incident andthroughout feature activation and use.
•The 911 Assist feature must be set onbefore the incident.
•You must pair and connect aBluetooth-enabled and compatiblecell phone to SYNC.
•A connected Bluetooth-enabled phonemust have the ability to make andmaintain an outgoing call at the timeof the incident.
•A connected Bluetooth-enabled phonemust have adequate network coverage,battery power and signal strength.
•The vehicle must have battery powerand be located in the U.S., Canada orin a territory in which 911 is theemergency number.
In the Event of a Crash
Not all crashes will deploy an airbag oractivate the fuel pump shut-off (thetriggers for 911 Assist). If a connected cellphone sustains damage or loses itsconnection to SYNC during a crash, SYNCwill search for and try to connect to apreviously paired cell phone; SYNC willthen attempt to call the emergencyservices.
Before making the call:
•SYNC provides a short window of time(about 10 seconds) to cancel the call.If you fail to cancel the call, SYNCattempts to dial 911.
•SYNC says the following, or a similarmessage: "SYNC will attempt to call911, to cancel the call, press Cancel onyour screen or press and hold thephone button on your steering wheel."
If you do not cancel the call, and SYNCmakes a successful call, a pre-recordedmessage plays for the 911 operator, andthen the occupant(s) in your vehicle is ableto talk with the operator. Be prepared toprovide your name, phone number andlocation immediately, because not all 911systems are capable of receiving thisinformation electronically.
