Only use oils certified for gasoline engines by the
American Petroleum Institute (API). An oil with this
trademark symbol conforms to the current engine and
emission system protection standards and fuel
economy requirements of the International Lubricants
Specification Advisory Council (ILSAC), comprised of
U.S. and Japanese automobile manufacturers.
1. Remove the filler cap.
2. Add engine oil that meets Ford specifications. SeeCapacities and
Specificationsfor more information.
3. Replace the filler cap. Turn it until you feel a strong resistance.
ENGINE COOLANT CHECK
Checking the Engine Coolant
The concentration and level of engine coolant should be checked at the
intervals listed inScheduled Maintenance Information.
Note:Make sure that the level is between the COLD FILL RANGE marks
on the coolant reservoir.
Note:Coolant expands when it is hot. The level may extend beyond the
upper COLD FILL RANGE mark.
Note:If the level is at the lower COLD FILL RANGE mark, below the
lower COLD FILL RANGE mark, or empty, add coolant immediately.
SeeAdding Engine Coolantin this chapter.
The coolant concentration should be maintained within 48% to 50% which
equates to a freeze point between -30 °F (-34 °C) and -34 °F (-37 °C).
Note:For best results, coolant concentration should be tested with a
refractometer such as Rotunda tool ROB75240 available from your
dealer. Ford does not recommend the use of hydrometers or coolant test
strips for measuring coolant concentrations.
Note:Automotive fluids are not interchangeable; do not use engine
coolant/antifreeze or windshield washer fluid outside of its specified
function and vehicle location.

2The design of your engine allows for the use of Motorcraft engine oils or equivalent oils that
meet Ford specifications. It is also acceptable to use an engine oil of recommended viscosity
grade that meets API SN requirements and displays the API Certification Mark for gasoline
engines.3Do not use supplemental engine oil additives in your engine. They are unnecessary and could
lead to engine damage not covered by your Ford warranty.4Do not use API S category oils labeled as SN, SM, SL or lower category unless the label also
displays the API certification mark. These oils do not meet the requirements of the engine and
emission systems.5Add the coolant type originally equipped in your vehicle.6Indicates only approximate dry fill capacity. Some applications may vary.7Engine coolant with trailer tow package - 11.9 quarts (11.3L)8Indicates only approximate dry-fill capacity. Some applications may vary based on cooler size
and if equipped with an in-tank cooler. The amount of transmission fluid and fluid level should be
set by the indication on the dipstick’s normal operating range.9Use of any fluid other than the recommended fluid may cause transmission damage. Refer to
scheduled maintenance informationto determine the correct service interval.10See your authorized dealer for fluid level checking or filling.11See the warning below:
Warning:
The air conditioning refrigerant system contains refrigerant R-134a under high pressure.
Opening the air conditioning refrigerant system can cause personal injury. Only qualified personnel
should service the air conditioning refrigerant system.
